The naval DD made me think of a small thing I would like.

Instead of only being able to pause/unpause the clock or change game speeds, there are times when regardless of game speed I would like to advance one hour only and then pause again. A button for one hour only would come in handy during naval engagements.

For some reason this makes me picture Ramius' line in Hunt for Red October. "One ping only, Vassily"
That would be really nice. 90% of the times when I slow down the game in CK2/EU4, it's just so I can advance just one day. Ideally, we wouldn't really need this type of a button (detailed logs for battles would be great, but fairly complex), but it'd be so nice to have. Even if it was just a keystroke.

Hmm, there could be right-click functionality for the game-speed icons, each bound to an intervall for an auto-pause to occur. Right click (during pause):
gamespeed 1 -> resume for one hour
gamespeed 2 -> resume for 12 hours
gamespeed 3 -> resume for a day
gamespeed 4 -> resume for a week
gamespeed 5 -> resume for a month
the pause-button -> set intervall bound to the assigned key, per rolldown menu.

Fully agree with a way to make the game advance one hour.

Also, I'd love it if unit animations were frozen when the game was paused. At least have an option for this.

The option to see tiny popups like the ones in the http://english.pobediteli.ru/ flash animation project. The ones that say things like "Street combat in Smolensk" or "Moscow bombed". Far less obstrusive than the regular pop-ups, and instantly shows you the location of the event. Trying to upload a screengrab, but keep getting an error message :p .

I would like to see the following:

1) An AI controlled Air Force that doesn't sit on the ground while enemy bombers fly overhead.

2) Statistics that show actual manpower losses and POWs instead of IC.

3) AI controlled Armys that actually utilise any attached Air units, I always attach some CAS, Multirole, TAC and Interceptors to my Armys so they can push the front harder, while also having a separate Air Force for air supremacy and strategic bombing.

4) AI controlled Armys/Corps that doesn't split off a random division to send to the far side of the Theatre despite having orders to do otherwise. If I make the mistake of not defending a region, that should be my mistake.

5) AI controlled Army/Corps that despite being in 'prepare' mode for a while, then switching to blitzkrieg or attacking, doesn't instantly retreat when I declare war. Why would you do this!?!?

6) The ability to save an entire Army makeup into the build system, instead of just divisions, I'd like to train, build and deploy an entire Army (or at least a Corps) without the tedium of attaching Divisions to Corps, Corps to Armys....

7) Please don't take away our ability to modify text files so that we can play the game the way we want to. I give everyone a massive research boost so we can all fight with late war tech, while also preventing the use of Nukes and Jets, because that's just boring. Also I like to cheat while learning the game, but reducing my cheating as I get better (mostly I boost the enemy), normally after a few million casualties... ;)

I literally won't buy the game if anti-cheating goes in. (I don't care about multiplayer anticheat as I play offline)

8) Decoy attacks, If HOI4 can steal your battle plans, then I'd want a decoy Army to enact a decoy offensive then break off. Purely to make the AI think that one of my plans they've stolen is the real one. This could be for instance a massive artillery attack but no offensive, or building fake tanks and aircraft.

9) Timed attacks, say Division A) waits until Division B) has reached it's objective or some other condition is met.

10) Not going to happen but major bridges should have their own place on the map embedded in regions, we can't re-do Market Garden without airborne assaults around bridges. Capturing of a significant bridge could mean not having to wait for a makeshift bridge to be built and greater supply throughput.

I have been looking over some of the screenshots again, and I hope for a DLC that replaces some of the drawn/comic (right word?) looking imagery with photos instead - the hippie gun with the flower etc. Or that it would be easy to do that yourself without spending hours learning how to edit the right file and strange fileformats for images etc.

The effects of bombing shouldn't be limited to the specific target of a bombing. If you flatten a city's industry, it should also damage the infrastructure there, as well as inflict minor damage on any units there.

Feedback on why you are winning/losing combats.

Something like enemy fired 100 soft attack, you fire 70 soft attack per round or hour therefore you lose. In Hoi3 you only have a combat efficiency, and a strength/org bar. But the combat efficiency is meaningless if you don't know the divisions stats. If you know a divisions soft attack for example, you then have to modify it by the combat efficiency, say 17 soft attack x 0,7 which is hard and annoying to do. This can make it unclear why you lose battles. There is the obvious indication of having more divisions than the enemy, but those divisions may be low quality (and give the player a false sense of strength) or the terrain may be really bad and make those divisions half as valuable. Add the impact of air power and tank armour and combat becomes even harder to understand.

These issues may be irrelevant to someone who's played the game a lot, but I remember when I played Arsenal of Democracy I'd be really confused why I'd take huge losses in battles or lose them outright, and I didn't feel the UI gave me enough information to work out why (and the battle UI hasn't changed dramatically).

I posted a thread about my idea but it did'nt recived so much attention so I guess i'll try here.

My idea is that a province can display more than one sprite,
For example eight or ten and and display what divisons that are in the province.

Like 1 armored divison = 1 tank sprite
This might result in shrinking the sprites and only add some flavour but think about it,

When HoI4 was first announced I did play around with that idea, the thread is called "3D Models in HOI4" you should be able to find.
I was able to mod a 3 model group of tanks into EU4 without any problems.
( group of french R-35 tanks )
6anZfND.gif

But modding 3 human models with complex bone setup is a whole nother story.
You will have to compromise model details and resolution, instead of having one model with 3000 polygons you will have three models with 1000 polygon each.

Double-clicking to retreat from a province.

Playing as Germany, I just accidentally ordered a retreat from a province when I thought I had only one unit selected, but actually had selected both the defending units. This was on the 27th, and my last save was on the 10th. My own fault, of course, but given how complex HOI is, and how much can happen between saves, and how retreats cannot be undone once ordered, it'd be really nice if there was an added safeguard there.

When HoI4 was first announced I did play around with that idea, the thread is called "3D Models in HOI4" you should be able to find.
I was able to mod a 3 model group of tanks into EU4 without any problems.
( group of french R-35 tanks )

But modding 3 human models with complex bone setup is a whole nother story.
You will have to compromise model details and resolution, instead of having one model with 3000 polygons you will have three models with 1000 polygon each.
Looks great!

My thought was more of when a battle commence the sprites of the divisons participating appears next to one another and a few behind.

Perhaps when it comes down to the infantry sprite maybe they should copy just one of the sprites thus performing the same movement.

IT may feel a bit cheap but it feels a lot more simple.

I know I will download this when/if it comes out as a mod.

- Option to remove War Goal (if wars work like in HoI3)
- Option to suggest trade debt. Watching my allies losing their armies because of supply shortage was a pain.
