This is going to be a Timurids AAR. Since I had a previous one lost to time, I decided to restart it for 1.30.3. This will be fun, see you soon :)

After some trial and error, we get one that is good for us.

Off we go.

20200802140740_1.jpg

You know the drill for the Timurids. Lenient taxation because otherwise our vassals will be unhappy.

20200802140824_1.jpg

Advisors! Luckily we start with two scripted ones, so everything is going well. Not only that, we're filthy rich. We earn a LOT of money at game start.

20200802140828_1.jpg

Angry vassals? What angry vassals?

20200802140853_1.jpg

Generals are ok, but 3 siege? That's better than expected.

20200802140956_1.jpg

Diets get called. Important centralising early game for a good mid and late game.

20200802141009_1.jpg

Strong duchies gets picked. At our diplo limit (we get +2 slots) and -10% liberty desire. Absolute must-have for the Timurids if they want to survive.

20200802141012_1.jpg

Everything is in check. Now Uzbek won't get a chance to interfere with us.

20200802141048_1.jpg

New Timurids players beware! Your starting ruler is 67, so he's going to die soon. For the lucky people that made it without him dying before 1455...
What's your secret?

20200802141103_1.jpg

Everything is in order, units have generals and are moving in position... almost time for a war. Speaking of wars: We have cores on Transoxiana, Khorasan, Fars, parts of Afghanistan and all of Ajami lands and vassals. Tasty...

20200802141136_1.jpg

No incident so far, prepare and...

20200802141150_1.jpg

GO! And we're off.

20200802141223_1.jpg

We raise some extra men and encourage our vassals to fight.

20200802141325_1.jpg

Fars makes a beeline for Qom, we sit back and continue raising manpower. No point in sending units that haven't yet gotten their morale ticks.

20200802141541_1.jpg

The first year passes, with no incidence. We enable scutage, embargo rivals and divert trade.

20200802141632_1.jpg

We achieve a breakthrough and push quickly.

20200802141757_1.jpg

Better than expected. Time to shake up the house.

20200802142357_1.jpg

We kick Sistan out (Three province minor. No cores, so no loss. We can eat them when their allies look the other way) and eat a huge chunk of Ajam. QQ got the scraps.

20200802142429_1.jpg

Power projection! Lots of it. We get up to 90 power projection, netting us some big bonuses.

20200802142506_1.jpg

Baluchistan? Maybe later. We'll see what they do. Could be an ally.

20200802142600_1.jpg

Wait, what? Form Yuan? Hm...

That seems... interesting. Potential Timurids > Yuan > Mongol Empire, anyone? Definitely not. We lack the skill, sadly.

20200802142656_1.jpg

We pick an ally for extra stability. Nogai will do, but we'll drop them later.

20200802142831_1.jpg

Finances have stabilised, all loans paid off. 6 years have passed.

20200802142931_1.jpg

Uh... Thanks? They rival us immediately afterwards, since we're the only power big enough to compete with them.

20200802142957_1.jpg

Troops get raised, and we prepare to kick their teeth in.

20200802143023_1.jpg

Renaissance drops. No time to develop for it, points need to go into tech.

20200802143049_1.jpg

We get ready for war.

20200802143150_1.jpg

That's more like it. Mil 4, extra LD reduction.

20200802143159_1.jpg

Uzbek becomes invalid, we rival QQ.

20200802143228_1.jpg

Cool. Ready everyone?

20200802143256_1.jpg

Wait, we're missing something.

20200802143348_1.jpg

Did we turn scutage off? We did? We ready? Alright, let's get some cores.

20200802143903_1.jpg

Have at it!

20200802143953_1.jpg

We punch through their south, we move to cover our north.

20200802144027_1.jpg

We move north and west, they try to stop us by moving south. Our 3 siege general gets put on Tabriz.

20200802144112_1.jpg

Great. We have a fallback plan. If something doesn't go right, we send them this.

20200802144319_1.jpg

Players never lose. Ever. If you did, no allies were sold out or you didn't fight hard enough. We take the rest of our cores back, plus a little more.

20200802144503_1.jpg

See what I mean by Sistan will drop easily? We go in to reclaim our clay.

20200802144628_1.jpg

Bengal has Peasant's War already? That was quick. They won't survive the first 50 years.

20200802144634_1.jpg

Oh boy, I like unrest! </sarcasm>

20200802144748_1.jpg

We kill off Sistan and move to kill their separatist stack.

20200802144844_1.jpg

We can integrate our vassals! We start with Transoxiana.

20200802144853_1.jpg

We grow stronger. Everybody else falls into line.

20200802145039_1.jpg

Why would you get that trait? Just... Nevermind. We don't need it. We can insta-annex Fars and Khorasan, because we have cores on them.

20200802145241_1.jpg

Separatists, again. Begone.

20200802145519_1.jpg

We get rid of Fars and Khorasan at the same time. The empire has been united!

20200802145802_1.jpg

The question is this: Where do the Great Sultan's armies turn first?

Very nice, do you think you are strong enough to take on Uzbek or will you need to expand to the west or the east to become stronger before taking on the giant to the north?

Near as I can figure, Uzbeks are a paper tiger.

A restoration of the Mongol Empire throughout the game shouldn’t be that hard, actually.

The Timurids are doing well. Soon, they will rule!

Of course, you don’t have Western tech, so late game might be a problem.

Excellent start, and a already strong Timurid.
This will be needed as a lot of problems can appear sooner or later.

Oh, come on! Filthy Turk lovers. This isn't good. Let's hope PLC and Russia kick their teeth in over Crimea when they get to it.

20200815171801_1.jpg

We go in for Mushaha. Ardabil turns up, gets slaughtered and KO'd.

20200815172049_1.jpg

And gone.

20200815172119_1.jpg

Mazandaran fighting Biapas and Shirvan would break CtA? Your clay is mine!

20200815172534_1.jpg

Innovative ideas get picked. Tech reduction will be necessary to stay ahead of the Europeans.

20200815172553_1.jpg

Coalitions can't form. Mazandaran is being annexed, QQ is truced along with Ardabil. Leaves Shirvan. 1 is less than 4 :)

20200815172556_1.jpg

We take them out. An annoying resistance falls and we secure a trade centre.

20200815172650_1.jpg

Time to consolidate Persia. Truces with QQ are due to end in around 5 years, and they're going out once we hit them.

20200815173455_1.jpg

That's gonna be an issue. An unusually strong Shammar is being led by an incredibly well-off Mamluks. This isn't good for our strategy.

20200815173517_1.jpg

Time to commit great sin: Ally the Osmans.

20200815173549_1.jpg

QQ is being pounded by the Mamluks and AQ, so we move in and pound them. QQ isn't going down quietly. It's probably crying out in agony.

20200815173557_1.jpg

When there is light, there is darkness. Is what a wise man said after getting a comet.

20200815173701_1.jpg

Mamluks are stuck on Mosul, we jump for Bitlis to cut off any further gains they may seek.

20200815173714_1.jpg

Oh jeez. Rip QQ. AQ in the north, Mamluks getting them down south and now we're clapping their cheeks.

20200815174016_1.jpg

AQ drops out, Chagatai and Ming rival us. We aren't scared of either, because Ming usually implodes and Chagatai is a horde nation. Bait them into the mountains and watch them get stackwiped. Horde nations, stronk on flatlands, a joke everywhere else.

20200815174329_1.jpg

Separatists in Zanjan, QQ peasants pop on Tabriz.

20200815174531_1.jpg

We take a huge chunk of land and walk away.

20200815174713_1.jpg

Wait, what? AI Bahmanis is actually good? Interesting. Seems they read our last campaign, since AI Bahmanis is usually wasted by Vijayanagar.

20200815174850_1.jpg

Oh. Forgot this was a thing. Governing capacity nearing max, what's a good solution?

20200815175000_1.jpg

Whoa. That's... interesting. Hungary, for starters, is thick. Hungary is Pu'd by Austria, who has Wallachia annexed. For the Ottomans to move further into Europe, they'd have to beat Austria up.

20200815175801_1.jpg

Separatists... yay. We decide to give some land off to Iraq, because it gives us a vassal and allows us something to feed provinces to until we can have the capacity to annex.

20200815180023_1.jpg

Diplomatic ideas gets picked next.

20200815180553_1.jpg

13.58 ducats a month... satisfying. This is what it feels like to be an economic powerhouse. Only one thing left to do: More tax!

20200815181055_1.jpg

All caught up in tech! A satisfying lime green (albeit a tad blinding) presents itself to us.

20200815181720_1.jpg

Biapas gets vassalised. Mamluks decided it was only worth getting three provinces, despite the fact they beat QQ really hard.

20200815182427_1.jpg

A quick war with QQ gives us a proper border with the Mamluks. Only one thing left to do here: Beat them up.

20200815183832_1.jpg

But first, let's get Syria in on the fun. They have cores all over the Mamluk lands. Seems like we've figured out where to go. That is, dominate in Arabia, turn on India, beat the Ottomans up once they stagnate enough.

20200815184806_1.jpg

And off we go! Ottomans get called in on favours (they'll never get the land), while the Mamluks mobilize Hormuz and Karaman.

20200815185209_1.jpg

Starting battle on Halab. They take the bait, we reinforce and the Ottomans pitch in. Mamluks commence the walk of shame.

20200815185228_1.jpg

We sit on Halab as the Ottomans nuke Karaman into oblivion.

We move into Hormuz. We're certain their capital is going to be on some island, so we built a navy.

20200815185349_1.jpg

Timurid-Ottoman forces get a victory over the Mamluks. Their counterattack stalls.

20200815185806_1.jpg

You will not take the fort from us!

20200815185856_1.jpg

While all of that's going on, we throw a bone to the Ottomans. They get Aksaray for their troubles.

20200815190352_1.jpg

How? More numbers, better discipline, better general, better tactics - we forgot RNG. Always.Plan.For.RNG.

20200815190425_1.jpg

Colonialism drops. We start developing for it.

20200815190542_1.jpg

The ottomans stage a breakthrough and rush Cairo and Alexandria. Manpower is 0, again.

The Mamluks drop out eventually. We take Hormuz (who didn't even have their capital on an island, therefore our navy was built for nothing :() but most importantly, CORES! Syria got most of theirs back, Iraq has all of theirs back. Most importantly, the Ottomans can't expand into Mamluk lands and the Mamluks aretoo weak to fight the Ottomans.

Breaking news: Indian nation has no allies, perfect target for annexation.

20200816141740_1.jpg

Other breaking news: Denmark is going to go Viking mode on the English again. First time in 600 hours seeing them back here.

20200816143648_1.jpg

It's time for our next beat-up-QQ war!

20200816144143_1.jpg

And they're gone. Armenia replaces them, for the prime purpose of screwing over nations who have their cores. Time for a vassal swarm.

20200816144204_1.jpg

We go after Kashmir. Jaunpur tries to woo us, but we stand hard and fast. If we weren't so focused on Arabia, we'd be smashing face in India right now.

20200816144307_1.jpg

The peacedeal.

20200816144527_1.jpg

They disappear. Two mercenary companies ready themselves for our usage (we've never used mercs in this campaign yet)

20200816144634_1.jpg

Time to make nations suffer for owning our subject's cores again. Round 3: Armenia

20200816145159_1.jpg

Oh. Georgians are like Swiss mountaineers, but in the Caucasus instead. Professional mountain fort designers, and a pain to deal with.

20200816145441_1.jpg

Georgia gets reduced to an OPM, Armenia grows in size and Biapas gets some land too. But why'd you kill the alliance with us, Ottomans? We were gonna beat the Mamluks up some more, didn't you want that Turkish clay they have? :(

20200816153557_1.jpg

What are the Dhimmi on? We can't build in noprovince. Whatever they've found, we want it.

20200816153829_1.jpg

Wait, hold on. Reform Hofgericht? (We don't have Emperor yet)

... This Austria's on the ball with this game. Quite impressive. Fortunately for them, the reformation began in Sweden.

20200816153840_1.jpg

Aw, crap. We forgot Peasants' War fires during Reformation age. Time to exploit like crazy to get manpower up before we get destroyed.

20200816154204_1.jpg

What can we offset with exploit development? MORE LAND.

20200816154922_1.jpg

More clay for the clay beast.

20200816160323_1.jpg

We get a one-week regency (no joke) and get the Careful trait. While not the best, it'll certainly keep people happy.

20200816160703_1.jpg

Huh. 122k total troops + reserves vs 230k total troops + reserves? Seems easy. Go get em.

20200816161217_1.jpg

Gemeinner Pfennig gets passed. This may be the first time the AI actually pulls a revoke. If Ewiger gets passed, the AI's won.

20200816161535_1.jpg

They're a lot better than we expected. This time, they have better morale and a discipline advisor. We have no discipline advisor, and we didn't take any mil ideas (starting to regret that a LOT).

20200816161556_1.jpg

great. we've got double the numbers, they scum their way to victory. do we get 12 AT as well?

20200816162146_1.jpg

Ooh. Declare on the Ottomans after getting out of war with the Memeluks, call Austria in to kick some Ottomans around? What could go wrong?

Nice. Good job with vassals.

How do you release vassals from your land in this game?

Looks like the Turks will be the next to fall to the Timurid Hegemony.

Are you trying to do a WC? Or just reclaim the lands of the Mongols?

Said Hungary is ruled by Austria, who are on fire this campaign

Nevertheless, I've decided that at some point, I'll do a reboot of this campaign and attempt a Timurid Mongol Empire, which sounds incredibly fun. Yuan seems easy to do, given that the following is necessary:

1597800516560.png

1597800771962.png

Red: Must own. Blue: Own/give to subject. Yellow: stuff we get perma-claims on.

Timurids start as something Altaic. Remember: Kill the EoC. If the EoC exists, we need to be it. EoC is ridiculously weak, so we just kill it when that happens, form Yuan and go crazy.
The Mongol Empire, is a different beast:

1597800729787.png

1597800788805.png

Orange: Must own. Red: Own/give to subject.

I think we have a future campaign idea.

En guarde!

20200817183022_1.jpg

We make quick work of their defenses, although they get the impression that if we get to siege all of Anatolia with little resistance we may very well cross over. They decide to face us in open combat.

20200817183033_1.jpg

Austria decides to get on the offensive. This is why two-front wars work.

20200817183116_1.jpg

Oh. If they're attacking us while we have double the numbers, that's not good.

20200817183133_1.jpg

What is this! Our spies gave no warning! 115% discipline, 4.5 morale, 1.7 tactics?

RUN FORREST RUN

20200817183515_1.jpg

We learned our lesson. The mighty total of two provinces switches hands, one is a core and one is Austria's prize.

Mental note made to strengthen the military.

Relatively short update. We'll get back to it sooner or later.

Oh dear oh dear, looks like the Ottomans are going to be a big problem until you can improve your armies.

I have full confidence you will manage to put them down eventually though!

Stupid Ottomans. Why are they so disciplined?

They must pay for this insult to the house of Timur!
