The Thousand Year Reich, A New World Order AAR

The world at the beginning of September 1941 was a very different place indeed. After two years of war the German Riech had emerged triumphant.

The armies of the Allied powers lay in ruins.

screensave06nc.jpg

Since Hitlers seizure of power in 1933, the self styled "Third Riech" had undergone a period of rapid industrialisation, and indeed the years leading up to the "European War" would be no different.

Between 1936 and the end 1938 no fewer than 20 new industrial complexes were constructed around Germany and the addition of the heavy industry in the new regions of Austria, the Sudetenland and later Bohemia/Moravia allowed Germany to emerge in 1939 as the premier industrial power in Europe, and second only to the United States on the world stage.

By comparison, the German war machine, the Wermacht, was relitivley small, comprising the divisions of the Wermacht in 1936 plus those Austrian divisions incoperated into the Heer after Anschluss and several new armoured divisions. The Kriegsmarine had been expanded by two new (III) Air Craft Carriers, one Bismarck (IV) class Battleship and two (IV) Battlecruisers. The Luftwaffe had recieved several new interceptor fighter wings (III).

Despite German supplies, Franco was unnable to win the Spanish civil war and was granted exile in Italy following the Republican victory, Hitler could only fume and plot revenge againt the socialist power in the midst of his Europe.

While the Heer was small it was both professional and the most advanced in the world, with huge resources lumped into the research sector the German war machine could bost to be several years ahead of any competitor in both equipment (1940 inf batt. in 1939, Long Range Submarines, Advanced Interceptors) and in its thinking (Blitzkrieg Doctrine)

Germany had managed to ally with several friendly powers, so when war broke out in September 1939 after the German demand for Danzig, Hungary, Bulgaria and Portugal joined Germany in its war on the allied powers.

Poland was quick to fall, Hungarian troops equitted themselves marvelously, capturing almost 1/3rd of Polish territory before being forced to hand it back to the Soviets under the terms of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

On the Western Front, the French assuled from the Maginot line while the Wermacht was still occupied in Poland, succeding in capturing several German provinces before the battle lines could be stablalised, however on the annexation of Poland and the redeployment of the Heer to the West, this would prove Frances downfall, as the forces within Germany were flanked by Panzers and over 20 divisions forced to lay down arms.

The Netherlands and Belgium both fell, despite putting up spirited resistance, especialy in the case of the Dutch who held Amsterdam for several months under heavy siege. Denmark too surrendered as German divisions crossed its borders, while Norway decided to fight, landings in Oslo, Narvik and Bergen soon knocked them out of the war, only to be replaced by Quislings pro-Nazi government.

France soon fell, and the Vichi government was established.

Hiler%20in%20Paris.jpg

It was now that Itlay decided to join the Axis, declaring war on Yugoslavia and Greece. The Italians fought dismally, and it was only with the intervention of Hungarian and Bulgarian troops, who once again faught very welll (Bulgaria taking most of Greece before German Panzers could claim the rest) that the Italians were triumphant in the Bulkans. Africa was another story, Italian troops despite facing a numereticaly inferior British force in Egypt were slowly pushed back to Tripoli where the line stabalised and would not move for the better part of six months. Portuguese troops faught well in South Africa before being overwhelmed by British armour.

After defeating France, German armour swept into Spain, annexing the war weary nation and reforming a new Fascist regiem in a matter of months. General Franco, returning from Italy declined a possition in the new government, but was fully reinstated to his possition in the military. (I couldnt liberate Nationalist Spain for some reason, so this sounded good enough) and Germany gained the African territories in the Peace. Gibraltar was surrounded and after several months of constant air attacks from Hungarian and German bombers, 100 000 British and colonial defenders surrendered.

However it would be an event in Europe that would save both the Italians and the Portuguese in Africa, arial recconosance detected only two divisions guarding the stretch of English coat around Portsmouth, and an invasion force was readied.

12 Infantry divisions supported by 2 Motorised Infantry divisions landed in the British isles, and swept away the unorganised and undermanned British defences. When two divisions of eliet Fallschrimjagger divisions landed in London, capturing the Royal Family, and with the rest of the army retreating into Scotland, Britian was brough to terms.

The peace was humiliating indeed, Britian ceeded much of its colonial Empire to the victors, with Egypt becomming an Italian puppet and Sudan being annexed into its colonial Empire, along with Gibraltar and the Suez in accordance with the terms of the Triparte Pact.

Shocked, Australia, New Zealand and Canada vowed to fight on, while India, Burma, Palestine and Jordan declaired their independance and neutrality Iraq became a German puppet. Only days after the London Peace Accords, all French territory was returned to the Vichy government, and the Free French forces surrendered. Britian swept into the Belgian Congo and annexed this region into what remained of their African Empire after a newly Fascist South Africa which had accepted German peace offers and joined the Axis was given Rhodesia under the London accords.

Japan was still embroiled in war with China, having made little progress in 4 years of war. The Turkish government was overthrown by a Nationalist revolt and joined the Axis, promptly declairing war on Syria, Lebanon and the old British territories and with German and Iraqi aind, annexing them into the resergent Ottoman Empire.

With German garrisions and troops still in London, and Mj. General Rommels Panzers outside Paris, both Vichy and England consented after several months to join the Axis.
The new world order was taking shape.

screensave11kn.jpg

After precious few months of peace, Japan declaired war on the US and joined the Axis, bringing war to the world once more. While Italian and Turkish (go figure) troops flooded into China from Portuguese Macao, the German war machine was relocated to the Eastern front.

screensave35ee.jpg

German technology continued to advance, while several new Aircraft carriers and two new Battleships were ordered to further strengthen the Kriegsmarine, which would find itself locked in combat with the US fleet all too soon

screensave54tb.jpg

Only time could tell how the world would look in another two years, but one thing was assured. War.

Very nice. I'm curious as to how you've set things up so far. I would guess you are using SMEP, but some things look a little altered. For example, your situation in the Balkans is very different and unrealistic ;) Bulgaria seems to have an extra province, too.

If indeed you were using SMEP, I don't know why you couldn't liberate Franco. Hm.

Good to see Vichy is neutral and isolationist.

I'm also curious about your Turkey situation. Did you really coup them and get them to join the Axis? Or did you use acceptall? Or what? :)

Desiring more! :D

How many times does this have to be said...

1.) It's "Reich" not Riech, you should know that ;)

2.) The Heer and Wehrmacht were two separate branches, the Wehrmacht being the armed forces while the Heer being the Army. D'oh! :D

Apart from that, very good! Can you enlargen the pictures though please <somehow> I couldnt get it to work

Question answering time.

I would guess you are using SMEP

Good guess, but I have been having some problems with something popping up saying "CriticalError, this and this event cannot fire" then I just click ignore and keep playing.... weird.

Bulgaria seems to have an extra province

They sure do, Bulgaria kicked some Greek ass when Italy declaired war on them, breaking right through their lines and taking Athens. I didnt think it plausable to have the Bulgars keeping the Greek Capital but they got a nice bit of Greece and some Islands as sweetners.
Also as a complete supprise I DID manage to coup both South Africa AND Turkey, I think it has something to do with my good relations with both and my Intel. Minister gave a 20% bonus to coup chances, still it did take a few tries with Turkey, they tend to be stubborn.
The world has got this way because I played up to this point and thaught, wow must make an AAR out of it, so its now early 1942, at war with the US and Russia is building up arms. The Japanese AI is SO unbelievebly DUMB, refusing to move into UNOCCUPIED chinese provinces and NEVER attacks and has built a SHITELOAD of militia instead of infantry, whats going on there, maybe all the bugs from the SMEP aint worked out yet (Im using the new version)

It's "Reich" not Riech, you should know that

Im still thinking "I before E ecept after C" :D

The Heer and Wehrmacht were two separate branches, the Wehrmacht being the armed forces while the Heer being the Army. D'oh!

I did know that, excuse the mistake, Ill edit it!

Screens properly on once I can figure out Image Shack, the screens taken from the game are too large to be uploaded (over 1meg) and even when I use the XP image resizing tool the only one that fits is an elcrappy uber small one, help?

In the stead of compression, I recommend judicious cropping.

What of the fine arts of MS Paint? The program I use for all my screenshots. :nods:

Funny Bulgaria, but cool all the same. And yes, basic paint/microsoft photo editor crops very nicely.

Are you using 1.3b? SMEP is designed for this and will not work with Doomsday.

why are some provinces hidden from your view while the rest are visible?(see france ,east africa and libya. 1st post, 2nd pic) good luck! :)

Im using the newest version released a few weeks back, and Im not running Doomsday

True, but how do I resize the rest of the page so I dont get large white borders around my cropped screens?

The meeting of the Axis Heads of State had been called by Hitler himself to discuss the tactics that would be needed to be employed in the comming months as the war against the Pacific Allies, which the American led nations had come to be called, began to intensify.
The seating arrangments clearly displayed the prestige of each nation, With Hitler and his aids seated at the head of the table. Supprisingly, Germany was flanked by two supposedly "Minor" powers, Hungary and Bulgaria. Horthey and Tsar Boris positivly gleamed as Mussolini sat degected, the clear reprimand from Hitler striking home. While Italy had gained huge swathes of territory as a result of the war, none had been gained by Italian soldiers, the brunt of the Yugoslavian and Greek campaigns being taken by Hungarian and Bulgar troops.

Once the Japanese, British, Vichy, Romanian, Turkish and Slovak candidtaes were all seated Hitler began to speak.
It was vital that further oil supplies be captured, thus a German and Italian backed invasion of Saudi Arabia by the Turks would be undertaken imidiantly.
In Asia Hitler would allow the Italian intervention force to proceed as it would, more important endevors would soon be undertaken by German troops.
Hitler also announced that Argentina had joined the Axis alliance.

At 7am on the 20th of July, German marines stormed the ice shores of Iceland, disloging the American motorised division stationed in the Capital. While a counterattack then forced the entire division to surrender, the attack had proven that the Germans were willing to face the Americans in combat.
On the Saudi front, the Arabians were quickly overwhelmed by German and Iraqi forces, and annexed into the Turkish Empire.

middleeast7ee.jpg

In worse news, the Americans landed several divisions in lightly guarded Portugal, quickly breaking out into southern Spain. While it was believed that these units could be contained by a German relief force, disaster struck when Stalin declaired war. The red hordes began to strike westwards. While Finland joined the Axis on the declaration of war, other news was not as good.

americaattack6ya.jpg

Heinz Gauderan had advanced too far into enemy lines in an attempt to encircle Soviet divisions in Lithuania and Estonia, only to be cut off and have his three Panzer divisions completly overwhelmed by 21 attacking Soviet divisions.

As the Ami's continued to advance unimpeaded in Portugal and Spain and the Japanese were pushed back in China, there were those in the Reich that had to wonder at the wisdom of Hitlers decission to go to war with the US when the Red Bear remained undefeated, and now with the Soviet offensive underway, it would indeed be an interesting few months.

Widening the war quite a bit.

As for cropping, with my computer (purchased about 3 years ago) there was a programme called Microsoft Photo Editor. Really basic, but if you edit your screenshot in paint, and then load it up in that, you can select an area and 'crop' it that will automatically cut out all the extraneous white and so on. If you visit my Livonia AAR you will see the result.

Iron-Chef: ...After precious few months of peace, Japan declared war on the US and joined the Axis...

at first i tried to remember you declaring war on the US. then, i re-read to find this! !

i agree with the assessment that you should have taken care of the bear before you took on the other eagle...

all that said, excellent! !

The war was hotting up.
While the Soviets had the advatage of a first strike, their forces were soon reeling as the full brunt of the German Panzers supported by mechanized infantry was brought to bare. In addition, some 30 Hungarian divisions reached the front, allowing the German infantry to ussult the Soviet possitions while the Hungarians held the lines.
The speed of the Panzer advances created several pockets of Soviet resistance, eventualy resulting on some 30 Soviet divisions being forced to lay down arms and surrender.
The Lufftwaffe also proved deadly, its Focke-Wolfe interceptors gaining complete arial superiority, alowing Stukas to have a free reign over the battle-field, bombing retreating Soviet divisions into annhialation.

sovietfront0zk.jpg

It was not long before German armor and infantry had taken two major objectives, the cities of Kiev and Minsk.

In China, the Italian led expeditionary forces had broken out of the Chinese cordon around Macau, as the Chinese rushed reinforcments to the area, the Japanese began to advance once more. Against the Soviets as well the Japanese managed to advance, taking western Mongolia and Vladivostok.
The Turks too had opened a front against the Soviets. It seemed Mussolini was anxious to prove Italy's fighting prowess after the embarrasment of the first European war as Italian and Turkish troops flooded into Georgia, with the aim of cutting off the Bakau oil fields.

japanchinasoviets1wi.jpg

However, all was not good news. The Americans had broken out of the hasty defences thrown up in souther Spain, taking all of Portugal and surrounding Madrid. Two German mechanized infantry divisions and three semi-motorised cavalry devisions were forced to lay down arms under an assult from 16 American divisions with armored support. While it would not be a total disaster if the Americans occupied Spain, as they would still have to fight through Vichy to reach the Reich, it would be a significant setback. Further resources were directed to the Spanish theater and the Spanish government moved to Amsterdam, where Juan III proclaimed Spanish troops would continue to fight untill every last American was evicted from his nation.
Hitler could not be so positive about the situation. Both Vichy and Britian refused to mobilise their large armies and come to the aid of the other Axis powers, with Britian keeping some 60 divisions on the home islands and Vichy sending the majority of its forces to police its African holdings. Only time would tell if the Americans could be held back.

The Yanks are really ruining Spain. They surely can't survive much longer.

Iron-Chef: ...However, all was not good news.

the good news about the Soviets is really good. the bad news about the US almost taking Spain is really bad. good luck! ! :)

For a free good Photo Editor try Picasa2 from Google. Use it for my AAR Pics. Worls well with Image Shack.
