The Thousand Year Reich, A New World Order AAR
The world at the beginning of September 1941 was a very different place indeed. After two years of war the German Riech had emerged triumphant.
The armies of the Allied powers lay in ruins.
Since Hitlers seizure of power in 1933, the self styled "Third Riech" had undergone a period of rapid industrialisation, and indeed the years leading up to the "European War" would be no different.
Between 1936 and the end 1938 no fewer than 20 new industrial complexes were constructed around Germany and the addition of the heavy industry in the new regions of Austria, the Sudetenland and later Bohemia/Moravia allowed Germany to emerge in 1939 as the premier industrial power in Europe, and second only to the United States on the world stage.
By comparison, the German war machine, the Wermacht, was relitivley small, comprising the divisions of the Wermacht in 1936 plus those Austrian divisions incoperated into the Heer after Anschluss and several new armoured divisions. The Kriegsmarine had been expanded by two new (III) Air Craft Carriers, one Bismarck (IV) class Battleship and two (IV) Battlecruisers. The Luftwaffe had recieved several new interceptor fighter wings (III).
Despite German supplies, Franco was unnable to win the Spanish civil war and was granted exile in Italy following the Republican victory, Hitler could only fume and plot revenge againt the socialist power in the midst of his Europe.
While the Heer was small it was both professional and the most advanced in the world, with huge resources lumped into the research sector the German war machine could bost to be several years ahead of any competitor in both equipment (1940 inf batt. in 1939, Long Range Submarines, Advanced Interceptors) and in its thinking (Blitzkrieg Doctrine)
Germany had managed to ally with several friendly powers, so when war broke out in September 1939 after the German demand for Danzig, Hungary, Bulgaria and Portugal joined Germany in its war on the allied powers.
Poland was quick to fall, Hungarian troops equitted themselves marvelously, capturing almost 1/3rd of Polish territory before being forced to hand it back to the Soviets under the terms of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.
On the Western Front, the French assuled from the Maginot line while the Wermacht was still occupied in Poland, succeding in capturing several German provinces before the battle lines could be stablalised, however on the annexation of Poland and the redeployment of the Heer to the West, this would prove Frances downfall, as the forces within Germany were flanked by Panzers and over 20 divisions forced to lay down arms.
The Netherlands and Belgium both fell, despite putting up spirited resistance, especialy in the case of the Dutch who held Amsterdam for several months under heavy siege. Denmark too surrendered as German divisions crossed its borders, while Norway decided to fight, landings in Oslo, Narvik and Bergen soon knocked them out of the war, only to be replaced by Quislings pro-Nazi government.
France soon fell, and the Vichi government was established.
It was now that Itlay decided to join the Axis, declaring war on Yugoslavia and Greece. The Italians fought dismally, and it was only with the intervention of Hungarian and Bulgarian troops, who once again faught very welll (Bulgaria taking most of Greece before German Panzers could claim the rest) that the Italians were triumphant in the Bulkans. Africa was another story, Italian troops despite facing a numereticaly inferior British force in Egypt were slowly pushed back to Tripoli where the line stabalised and would not move for the better part of six months. Portuguese troops faught well in South Africa before being overwhelmed by British armour.
After defeating France, German armour swept into Spain, annexing the war weary nation and reforming a new Fascist regiem in a matter of months. General Franco, returning from Italy declined a possition in the new government, but was fully reinstated to his possition in the military. (I couldnt liberate Nationalist Spain for some reason, so this sounded good enough) and Germany gained the African territories in the Peace. Gibraltar was surrounded and after several months of constant air attacks from Hungarian and German bombers, 100 000 British and colonial defenders surrendered.
However it would be an event in Europe that would save both the Italians and the Portuguese in Africa, arial recconosance detected only two divisions guarding the stretch of English coat around Portsmouth, and an invasion force was readied.
12 Infantry divisions supported by 2 Motorised Infantry divisions landed in the British isles, and swept away the unorganised and undermanned British defences. When two divisions of eliet Fallschrimjagger divisions landed in London, capturing the Royal Family, and with the rest of the army retreating into Scotland, Britian was brough to terms.
The peace was humiliating indeed, Britian ceeded much of its colonial Empire to the victors, with Egypt becomming an Italian puppet and Sudan being annexed into its colonial Empire, along with Gibraltar and the Suez in accordance with the terms of the Triparte Pact.
Shocked, Australia, New Zealand and Canada vowed to fight on, while India, Burma, Palestine and Jordan declaired their independance and neutrality Iraq became a German puppet. Only days after the London Peace Accords, all French territory was returned to the Vichy government, and the Free French forces surrendered. Britian swept into the Belgian Congo and annexed this region into what remained of their African Empire after a newly Fascist South Africa which had accepted German peace offers and joined the Axis was given Rhodesia under the London accords.
Japan was still embroiled in war with China, having made little progress in 4 years of war. The Turkish government was overthrown by a Nationalist revolt and joined the Axis, promptly declairing war on Syria, Lebanon and the old British territories and with German and Iraqi aind, annexing them into the resergent Ottoman Empire.
With German garrisions and troops still in London, and Mj. General Rommels Panzers outside Paris, both Vichy and England consented after several months to join the Axis.
The new world order was taking shape.
After precious few months of peace, Japan declaired war on the US and joined the Axis, bringing war to the world once more. While Italian and Turkish (go figure) troops flooded into China from Portuguese Macao, the German war machine was relocated to the Eastern front.
German technology continued to advance, while several new Aircraft carriers and two new Battleships were ordered to further strengthen the Kriegsmarine, which would find itself locked in combat with the US fleet all too soon
Only time could tell how the world would look in another two years, but one thing was assured. War.
