Chapter VI - Two Kings

By the end of 1940, it became painfully obvious, that Norway's manpower pool was very limited and that future warfare could only work out through the creation of puppets and colonies. Foreign Norwegian-controlled armies would be the future, but for now Haakon had to scratch together all the manpower he could spare in order to refill the ranks of the 6 divisions, that participated in the Irish War. Therefore the completely out of date transport fleet and the police brigade intended for Reykjavic were disbanded.

00601.png

Reforming the existing order of battle was necessary, too. Therefore the 3 Militia divisions entrusted with the protection of Norwegian soil were grouped into a single Corps in Bergen. The idea was to wage war far away from Norway, so the enemy could not attack it directly. This required 2 things: Organized troops for the King to send and a modern transport fleet with a wide range.

00602.png

Creating such a fleet took some time, but it was ready by summer 1941. These modern vessels would soon transport the Royal Army to places, they've never seen. With Mitteleuropean and Entente fleets unable to breach the fortress that was Britain, Haakon would have enough time to subjugate and ally other neutral countries building up his own alliance, that would sooner or later challenge the current rulers of Europe and the World.

00603y.png

In late January the nation of Greece found itself in political turmoil after the death of Ioannis Metaxas. The well-funded Norwegian Secret Service would challenge the young new government of Greece on it's first day in office. The chances were slim, but the newly appointed Foreign Minister Vidkun Quisling managed the unthinkable. Within a few hours, the new Greek government fell and an alliance between the Kingdom of Norway, the Royal Republic of Ireland and the Kingdom of Greece was announced. Finally, Haakon had a useful ally granting him not only access to new blueprints, but also to ports in the Mediterranian Sea. New possibilities unfolded before Oslo.

00604.png

Meanwhile the Spanish Civil War ended with yet another crushing defeat for the Syndicalists. First America, then Russia, then Vietnam, then France and now Spain. Things were looking bad for the Syndicalists. The Carlists however granted the CNT FAJ autonomy over Barcelona. Continuing as a small regime, ties with Italy and Britain were strengthened, but the CNT FAJ was all too vulnerable now...

00605.png

The Norske Haer under Lieutenant General Fleischer was ordered to Crete using the new transport vessels of the Royal Navy. Plans for new wars were finished already and the summer of 1941 would see them becoming reality...

Oh nice this is still alive

Chapter VII - The Crescent War Part I

With King Haakon's elite forces and their new transport vessels at bay in Crete, new vulnerable victims were now within reach of Norways hands. The decision was final: Norway would acquire colonies! The declaration of war against the neutral isolationist state of Oman was just a preparation step, though. Fleischer's forces would capture the island of Suqutra south of Oman as a warning and as a demonstration of power. The few police forces there were easily overwhelmed.

00701.png

With such a base right at Oman's doorstep, the small nation was forced to negotiate with Norway. King Haakon did not insist on more than the island chain around Suqutra and the enclave of Khasab, leaving Oman proper as it was before in exchange for a peace treaty.

00702.png

Meanwhile other nations decided to enlarge their sphere of influence, too. The syndicalist alliance in South America finally obliberated Chile, who decided to fight on despite the bitter separate peace their ally Argentinia signed one year ago. With this, Syndicalism had it's first major victory in history. But Europe saw some changes as well, as Wilhelm III - new emperor of Germany - decided to annex the United Baltic Duchy directly into the Reich, as the Baltic has been almost completely germanized due to the many citizens of Germany proper emigrating into the duchy during the Great Depression.

00703.png

By fall 1941, Ireland had it's first own division deployed to Dublin and therefore Norwegian protection forces were no longer necessary. Therefore, these troops were transported to Khasab in order to prepare the invasion of Haakon's true target: Hajimete Arabia. Fleischer, who became quite accostumed to the new terrain would bring many victories for the king. The inferior Arabian forces of Abu Dhabi had no chance to withstand his attacks for long.

00704.png

Fleischer later admitted how "utterly strange it looked to have pale blonde men catch sunburns while marching through the desert in early winter". He did enjoy hunting the retreating Arabians, though. Even with their camels, they couldn't outrun the armored cars of the Norske Haer and got crushed long before they could reorganize.

00705.png

By december, the forces of the Saud family were split into two with half of them being isolated on a peninsula. Fleischer wanted to wipe them out, but was stopped by order of the king. Haakon decided that a strategical defeat of the Hajimete could lead to a soft peace. "Why kill them all, when we could force them to fight for us in the near future?"

00706.png

hooray, it's back!
collecting small armies of various allies/puppets is probably the only way to get a big enough army for a country like norway. good luck with the conquests :)

Do you really managed to coup Greece right the first time?

Yep, I've been extremely lucky here. Won't try so again with any other nation, though - simply because it costs a lot of money and it would be gamey.
It was a wink of the gods and I gladly took that opportunity :D

Chapter VIII - The Crescent War Part II

With the beginning of 1942 it was time for some major changes in Norway. The expansion of the empire and the upkeep of European balance wasn't going according to Haakon's wishes. Things needed to speed up, as Germany was securing itself world dominance more and more with each day passing. Therefore, new ministers entered the Norwegian cabinet and their less useful predecessors were sent home quickly. Everything was set for the Norwegian army to stomp Arabia into the ground and move on to bigger targets.

00801.png

The New Year's offensive conducted by Fleischer and his staff would throw back any possible relief for the 4 cavalry divisions trapped in the opening weeks of the war. Arabian troops were rendered almost helpless in front of the modern Norwegian tactics and weapons. While the hot sands of the desert still slowed them down, the King's Army would still reach Riyadh after a couple of easy battles against men, that were mostly armed with swords.

00802.png

And then it happened: Hashimete Arabia officially surrendered to Norway. Haakon VII's decision was to create an Arabian semi-independet puppet government with Norway keeping full control over the armed forces of the Arabian peninsula. That at least brought 7 additional divisions into Norway's manpower pool and they would soon see some action.

00803.png

Now Greece wasn't the only revanchist nation seeking it's fortune in the Norwegian alliance. On April 8th, 1942 the Argentinan Foreign Minister invited Haakon for 'talks'. These led to the great Triple Axis Oslo-Athens-Buenos Aires. La Plata suffered at the hands of the Syndicalists in South America and needed friends in order to keep itself save. Haakon promised help under the condition, that La Plata first helped him...

00804.png

The war between Denmark and the Union of Britain had lasted for years already. The powerful fleet of the British Syndicalists was not only able to defend it's islands from the united navies of Mitteleuropa and the Entente, but also the starve Denmark into submission. Meanwhile they had no means to make a landing on the shores of Germany's small northern neighbour. Denmark itself was not accepted by either Mitteleuropa nor the Entente, though leaving it in a quite miserable situation.

00805.png

For the fact, that their people were related anyway and under the pretend to protect them, Haakon VII. officially demaned Christian X. to give him the crown of Denmark. And with that, the two nations finally rejoined in one empire again. It was time to demand a favor of Britain, though. Norway took off a small burden from the shoulders of the Syndicalists and they were willing to hand him Lerwick for thanks.

00806.png

With all the funds and industrial capacity achieved by this diplomatic act, it was now possible of the Norwegian Crown to launch multiple research projects at once. Keeping up with the continental European powers would be difficult and modern technology could be the only salvation in this battle.

00807.png

The whole Royal Army and the Crown Colony's Army of Arabia were transported towards Greece. Fleischer - for his brilliant service in the East - was promoted to the rank of a General. 14 division were now ready to assist the 14 Greek divisions at the Greco-Bulgarian border. La Platan troops were expected to arrive as soon as war would break loose. But why Bulgaria? To Haakon, it was easy: Defeat Bulgaria and the Ottoman's have a 2-front war, defeat the Ottomans and you gain Albania, gain Albania and you can destroy Serbia, destroy Serbia and you can defeat Romania, defeat Romania... and the Austro-Hungarian lands are not safe anymore. "Just like dominos..." Haakon stated often, when talking about the Balkans and Europe.

Chapter IX - Limit Breaker

It was time to gain ground on the European continent. The first target would be the very one Haakon's ally Greece was planning revenge on since the days of the Great War - It's name: Bulgaria. A czar would bow to a mere king. While the initial plan was to break through the Koznani corridor, the newest member of the Royal Alliance surprised everyone by making a bold landing at Alexandroupoli. With Koznani becoming an instant stalemate due to greek cowardice to make a decisive breakthrough, the Argentinan impulse to this campaign was most welcome.

00901.png

The Royal Navy would seize this opportunity and transported Fleischer's troops all the way around the Greek peninsula to the Argentinan beachhead. With little to no Bulgarian forces present in this area, the Arabian cavalry could be used to quickly gain ground, cut Bulgarian supply routes and occupy precious factories. The transport vessels had to be careful though as the Bulgarian Navy was more than able to stand it's ground against the combined vessels of Greece and La Plata.

00902l.png

La Plata however sent more and more troops to Europe. This pact of mutual assistance really started to pay off. On big problem was growing among the divisions stationed in Alexandroupoli though: Supply shortage. The initial suppliment was already half-way used up. Staying stagnant was no option, either. Something had to be done quickly. With no choice but going forward, an offensive was launched into the unprotected backland of Thrace.

00903m.png

After a few weeks the Czar responded to this new threat and sent troops to stop the combined advance of Norway, La Plata and Norwegian Arabia. While superior in numbers, the supply-shortage started taking their toll and the offensive was grinded to a halt slowly.

00904.png

Afraid that other nations would seize the opportunity to declare war on now unguarded Kingdom of Norway in the name of "justice and freedom", Haakon decided to end his mastery over Ireland in order to lower the belligerence of his nation and to give out a positive message to the world.

00905.png

With the ground forces reaching their limits, it was obvious that Bulgaria was a target stronger than estimated. However, the Czar feared a link-up of the two enemy fronts and withdrew several forces from Koznani. This would give chance for a Greek offensive and those Hellenian soldiers were still fresh and would have better chances against the now exhausted Bulgarian troops. Using this fear, Haakon called for peace talks and succeeded in the end. Western Thrace and Macedonia came under Norwegian occupation.

00906.png

These areas were given to Greece shortly after. With the peace talks finishing on 24th of September, an after-war order was established and Haakon received a Greek Destroyer as a gift of gratitude for all he's done for the Greek people. Further expansions were possible now. Bulgaria would be left alone... for now.
