Alright, I've played this scenario 5 times now, each time ending in utter defeat.

Before I go for rounds 6-10 is there any real way I can keep from being dominated or being annexed by Mexico? Any tips?

Also, why is it that the USA wants nothing to do with me, as Texas. It was pretty well documented that Texas and the US held many meetings, etc. during the Mexican - Texas war which is why they were ultimately annexed by the US.

Texas can't really compete with Mexico in the game at the start, so you'll probably find it less frustrating to play the US, beat back Mexico for a white peace, reject the Texas assimilation, and then reload as Texas. It will buy you some time by sort of rigging the game to play out with a Mexican defeat that you don't have to rely on the AI to provide(if it feels like it)

So wait, if I understand this correctly:

I can play as the USA, immediately start a war with Mexico, beat them back a little bit and force them to leav Texas alone. Then I can go back start a new game as Texas and the computer controlled USA will follow what I did earlier and save me from Mexico?

The only solution is to the remove the TexanWarofIndependence file from History/Wars. Texas and Mexico start the game at peace, in roughly the same position as they were historically after the battle of San Jacinto. Just rationalize it that the game begins after Texas has won its independence.

No.

Start a game as the US. Go to war with Mexico over Texas, get a White Peace, reject Texas annexation, save, reload the save and pick Texas to play.

No, when you load your save you can pick which country you want. He's saying beat Mexico as the US, save, then when you reload your game choose to play as Texas. But you won't have a much easier time beating Mexico as the US either.

Not quite cardboard. What pewpew was saying is:
1. Play as US.
2. Fight Mexico to a white peace.
3. Save the game
4. Reload as Texas in the save game
5. Enjoy

awwww i was too slow :(
