I was playing a game as Canada yesterday, and I noticed that Mexico's tendency to have one or two civil wars over the course of a game nowadays makes this focus useless. When you complete the focus, Mexico has the fascist modifier like it is supposed to, but once the war with the Mexican Junta breaks out or one of the other Mexican rebellions occur, the modifier is gone for all Mexican states. This removes pretty much all potential danger for the United States on its southern front, allowing that country to focus entirely on Canada. These problems existed in Man the Guns, but I've only remembered to post it here now ever since I tried playing as Canada again.

Canada really is in need of a complete overhaul, but if the devs could at least address this problem, that would be nice. As it stands, fascist Canada is challenged enough. I'm not sure how one is supposed to get the "It's 1812 All Over Again" achievement. Any tips?

I think that the best solution to this without editing focus trees is making it so that taking that focus forces the AI to go down the Synarchist path of it's focus tree, kind of like how exiling communists to France as Germany makes the French AI go communist.

I feel that's kind of overpowered, but as I stated earlier, Canada needs all the help it can get, and honestly, this would only occur in non-historical games, and even then, it would probably be pretty rare, so I think it's a good suggestion. One question though - what if the AI had already rushed democratic or communist focuses though? How would that work?

just make it so a civil war will break out and then give Canada the possibility to intervene or send volunteers so that there is still a chance if the player messes up or a human is playing Mexico they just win the civil war and Canada has no allies. I agree though that Canada needs if not a rework of the focus tree even some minor changes could help

I haven't played Canada since before La Resistance, but I was also frustrated as hell by the dud of the Synarchist Baja focus.

If you really just want the "It's 1812 All Over Again" achievement, try playing as Canada with the Together of Victory and Man the Guns DLC deactivated. You will just have the Generic tree, which lets you flip Fascist much quicker, leave the Allies when you want, and easily change your conscription laws.

For double the cheese, you can just use heavy fighters and paratroopers to take Washington DC as soon as the war starts, which should give you the 1812 achievement without having to completely capitulate the USA. If it's early-1938 or before, the USA usually won't have any divisions in Maryland at all.

Problem with this is that there is no Mexican strategy plan to ally with fascist Canada, only a plan to ally with Germany.

Easiest solution indeed is to write a corresponding strategy plan and make the Mexican AI follow that in case Canada is going down that path.

Best solution would be as others have proposed to give possibility to Canada for intervening in the Mexican civil wars on the side of their client, making sure one side of the civil wars always inherit the corresponding idea.

I think adding this simple logic to the end of all the three Mexican civil war events will make the new tags inherit the Canadian influencer idea.

Code:
if = {
    limit = {
        ROOT = {
            has_idea = synarchist_support_surge
        }
    }
    add_timed_idea = { idea = synarchist_support_surge days = 720 }
}

Not a very sophisticated solution for sure but at least something.
