39. The invasion, part 14
(1st - 15th November 1942)
Note: These 15 days which is this update covering were relatively un-eventful, so it will be a shorter one. It's also possible that following updates will be un-eventful as winter is coming. If updates will be too small during winter I am considering doing 1 gameplay month long updates.
November begun with attack on Challis where 2 Japanese cavalry divisions fought against 2 inferior Canadian divisions (defeating Canadian infantry is like taking a candy from baby), while Kawabe Masakasu's 10 'Kurogane' Hoheishidan was fighting again as this division was attacked in Burley by 84th US infantry division. Both battles were in the end won which meant advance towards objectives which would be nice to have accomplished before winter comes - to dig in Rocky Mountains.
Battle of Safford has been won and one again IJA was the only attacking forces in the south of the front. With multiple allied divisions being overrun last month Japanese can press the attack in the south where winter is not as severe as in the north. Another point to success in the south is the airfield in Phoenix being secured Imperial Japanese forces which now don't have to worry about air superiority.
Surprising news came from central America. US are trying to execute landing in San José! Probably with intention to retake the Panama canal which is one of the key points in this conflict. Retaliatory force has immediately embarked and this intrusion will be quickly put to an end.
Brace yourselves, winter is coming. In the north of Salt Lake City, which is at the moment the utmost important tactical object, is winter clearly visible - this means attack on Salt Like City have to be launched as soon as possible.
Rocket artillery improvement has been finally accomplished and support brigades now have up-to-date techs. Infantry division consisting of 3 infantry brigades and one extended support brigade is the backbone of Imperial Japanese Army. It's high soft attack allows these divisions to shred enemy divisions just by looking at them and sufficient piercing allows them to fight enemy armor without giving it too many of the armor advantage.
Japanese "armored horses" infamous for their exploits they've accomplished in China. They're almost 2 times more expensive in terms of supplies and they're also consuming fuel, but they're proving their worth every now and then. Armored cars they have provide sufficient protection against divisions without support brigades or equipped with rocket launchers.
IJA at the moment possesses with 10 divisions like this.

Causality ratio has decreased after long time from 3.28 to 3.24, this is mainly due to winter and worse conditions for the attacks.

40. The invasion, part 15
(16th - 30th November 1942)
With winter about to come skirmishes in vicinity of Salt Lake City intensified, while battle of Escalente was one of the bloodier ones as 1571 Japanese and 3210 US soldiers have died during the battle.
In Challis IJA cavalry has been attacked by Canadian light armor which proved to be far more inferior than anyone would expect. Canadians suffered over 50 times bigger casualties and managed to loose all organization during their futile attack.
After skirmishes in the South during which another 5 allied divisions has been destroyed, Lordsburg is once again secured. However as soon as IJA forces have arrived there they've found themselves under attack of lone Canadian division which lasted almost for three days. During this three days Canadians have lost almost seven times more soldiers then well-equipped, well-trained and experienced Japanese soldiers which also had the river as crucial defense point.
During their patrol sail from Brest towards central America IJN carrier air groups intercepted an air raid which targeted the carrier task force. Allied airplanes were probably operating from Bermudas and this set the future objectives for SNLF - allied bases in Caribbean must be denied to them.
Lone militia division without support brigade attached located in Black Range had not enough power to resist concentrated assault of Japanese forces. During skirmish which 8 hours IJA forces have lost 36 men while US militias suffered 18 times higher casualties.
Attacks in the South are continuing without any substantial interference of weather and it's likely that offensive in the south will continue unhindered during whole winter.
Holbrook was one of the tougher nuts to crack - 2 regular infantry divisions dug in behind the river. However even this battle had to be fought as this province is blocking further advance in the south.
For some reason I had no pop-up or log with battle summary after this battle has been won so casualties for this one are unknown.
SNLF arrived to Panamá and are ready to purge every piece of Allied existence in the central America and Caribbean. Pointless attack on San José which USA executed maybe diverted focus of SNLF elsewhere but it also cost US yet another division.
Top secret rocket research facility was completed in Kitaimi, Hokkaido. With no threat coming from the sea Japanese war ministry have decided to allocate resources used previously for Imperial Japanese Navy needs elsewhere. Further expansion of the facility has been ordered and research of rocket tests has begun immediately.
I am seriously thinking about nukes. Nukes anyone?
In my opinion USA will be finished in late 1943 but should I fail it would be nice to have nukes and replay history with different outcome. Your thoughts about nukes?
Battle of Salt Lake City was much easier than anyone in IJA would expect. The city felt into Japanese hands after day long skirmish where 71 Japanese and 1203 allied soldiers have fallen. This victory also means that Japanese bombers and fighters can be relocated closer to the front which will come handy during attritional winter war.
IJA tactic has changed in the cold north, instead of grand battleplan approach seen previously, specialist missions represented by surgical strikes against handpicked targets are to be seen there. One of those surgical strikes was Missoula, where IJA fought multiple US militias and despite the fact that Japanese forces were attacking in winter into terrain which favored defenders, US casualties were ten times higher.
Casualties:
Causality ratio has yet again increased from 3.24 to 3.26 and Allied casualties from bombing has climbed over 100,000 which is very nice as Japanese airforce has only two weak medium bomber wings which are the ones wreaking most havoc into enemy lines.

Nukes, huh? Why not? Can't hurt to have them, as long as your army and air techs are up to date. You'd probably have to research strategic bombers though, since I think rockets have crappy range.
It can't hurt to have some nukes just in case. However, if all goes as planned, with both US and SU out of the picture, UK is a sitting duck waiting to fall in your (or Germany's) lap.

41. The invasion, part 16
(1st - 15 December 1942)
Even in winter the offensive continues unhindered in the South. With this pace Japanese soldiers will see Mexican Gulf before spring arrives. El Paso and Albuquerque are attacked by Imperial Japanese Army and both battles were won in a day without any significant effort made from Japanese side.
Immediately after 3 Japanese divisions arrived to Escalente they were attacked by a single Canadian division. In a stubborn attack where 8 Japanese soldiers felt Canadians lost 616 soldiers - attacking superior enemy force in the mountains behind river is not the best idea.
Another set of attacks was launched in the South. Mild enemy concentration and relatively good weather is playing into Japanese cards.
However the battle of Farmington proved to be slightly difficult one, yet it was still not the massacre like the ones in Ashland or Modesto.
Yet another improvement in field of air doctrines, this will allow our planes last longer in air combat and intercept enemy aircraft in a better ways. Radar combat impact is also nice however there are not any radar stations on the front and if any would be built it wouldn't help for a long time as we are slowly but steadily pushing towards East Coast.
Three Forks were attacked by a brutal Japanese force - nearly 100,000 Japanese soldiers were involved in a fight against two US divisions. In a battle which lasted slightly longer than a day IJA lost only 2 men while US lost 1349 - that are nearly 700 times bigger casualties on the US side which is absolutely astonishing and this victory will sow fear into hearts of Americans and it will be greatly used by our propaganda.
Another brutal attack was launched on Alamogordo from 4 directions. Canadian division retreated immediately and the remaining US division hold ground for a day while it lost over 2000 soldiers while attacking Japanese forces have lost ten times less soldiers.
Construction of 4 light armor divisions and training of their crews has been finished in the home islands. These 4 divisions and 10 'Kurogane' Hoheishidan will create new 1st armored corps and 10 'Kurogane' Hoheishidan will be replaced by Konoe 1 Shidan in its current corps. With 15 mobile divisions and the offensive slowly reaching Great Plains opportunities for encirclements are on the horizon.
Casualties:
Causality ratio has risen from 3.26 to 3.33, which is satisfying trend. However Royal and US Navy started being aggressive in terms of submarine warfare as we've lost 5 convoys in this 15 days.
