. . . is always human, even when you're playing as human . . .

Please either randomize or build in a if you're human then you get maybe a random choice from a limited selection. It would also make sense for it to be a species in the game, unless they've dropped through from a parallel universe . . .

I had hunch about that but since I play with humans the appearance made some sense - I rationalized they were shapshifters, and even though the appearance is the same they are their own species you get the info if you scroll over the scientists portrait, which also means it can't get ascension traits.

But yeah it's one of the dead end/lackluster anomalies like the exile or the parasites on the derelict ship or the see-through science ship, wanderlust etc.

Well technically the leader just uses the human picture (it's always a woman too, in my experience), but if you hover over them they're actually a species that isn't anywhere else on the map. Of course, that then begs the question: where are the rest of her people?
