Specialist290: Thanks for stepping up as I don’t think the US had named “Unami” as a state. ;)

I think most of the EU3 provinces in the modern United States are named from local native tribes that lived in those areas. A few of these (like Massachusetts) actually did end up becoming state names, though.

RGB: Thanks

Enewald: Near the end of the game, usually between 1750 - 1800 I start picking up inflation at about .2 a year. The reason for this is because the game’s about to end and I consider the benefits of cash to outweigh the last minute technology costs. I think in this game though I stuck to just .1. In most games I begin to mint sometime around 1550 -1600 at .1 until the end of the game however since this was MM and the other countries weren’t minting like crazy, I held off for a while especially considering I was hit with bankruptcy early on.

When I write an AAR though I usually try to get it down but if I did that here, I'd be spinning my tires.

Kami: I’m not sure why I’m still “lesser.” While I was playing I thought you were stuck with it until the end of the game unless a revolution came along.

I don’t think anyone’s going to mess with Japan. ;) I wonder if anyone can even see a length of sea provinces to sail there.

PrawnStar: I think I was still refueling which explains the low manpower. I liked it better in 1.3 because I could abuse my reserves and put them into my armies all at once.

cezar87: I’m never sure about discipline. Its one of those things I never read about because I don’t like reading long things, like manuals, on my computer screen. Somehow though, I always end up with high discipline whenever I play. Maybe the early moves toward quality helps it and maybe (not sure) the tradition helps it a little too.

As far as I can remember I hadn’t passed any decisions I haven’t written about but these Irish notes aren’t the best I’ve taken since I centered on hammering on the big things and ignoring the small things. Now my Yaroslavl AAR, when that was running I could’ve told you anything, even how many men were lost in whatever inconsequential battle I fought.

I wish I could speak more intelligently on it but, I eat flowers.

Iamwinterborn: Thanks for clearing that up. Why read the manual when I have Iamwinterborn following my AAR? :D

Specialist290: You’re right... but I think we should’ve made up a bunch of names that are hard to pronounce just to screw with people.

Azugal: Its okay, those are the unimportant states anyway. ;)

Early 1800 it looked like the British weren’t having much luck against the Americans. The defections haven’t been kind.

In February I passed Sunday Schools. There’s a national tax reduction but I really needed the increased missionary chance and the reduced revolt risk. Later in the year I’d move a slider +1 free subjects.

jv0uw1.jpg

Late in 1801 Muscovy declared war on Lithuania. Again I suffered from forgetting to remove the military access. It would’ve been a -6 stability hit so I stayed out of it. It would’ve been nice, and fairly easy, I think, to retake a few Baltic provinces. Lithuania*, Tver and Poland v. Muscovy*, Uzbek, Sweden and Hungary.

I’d soon forget about it though when the US/GB war finally ended. The US returned a few provinces. What worried me most though, was the US being given such a low technology. They’re at 7 land 7 navy.

1zm1kkw.jpg

With the US war concluded I took another look at GB’s stats. They’re looking ripe. (Ships are the same.)

2eeblly.jpg

On 12 February 1802 I declared war. Ireland*, Bosnia, L.O., France and Portugal v. GB*, Norway, Sweden and Loango. Funny, these days everyone wants to play war.

Followed by...

2gx3g9l.jpg

Maybe it’s the low income of MM combined with the autosend feature.

Immediately I scorched Susquehanna and moved into Ohio, Mahican and Kanawha. By April a 11/12/2 (or 6503/3277/1612) British Army moved into Susquehanna. I can live with this. Do you know what else I can live with? A siege in London. And look, I’m all alone with no one to celebrate with.

200tyew.jpg

With these successes I took a risk and decided to move my Baltic Army through Muscovy in an attempt to take out Norway. I ought to get there around the winter, does that sound about right?

By the end of June Britain had moved into a few more of my colonial possessions (Onondaga, Oneida and Monacan) but my siege in Ohio was just ending. I imagined the other British forts were soon to fall.

Meanwhile, Sweden had just entered Estland as I discovered Muscovy and Norway didn't connect. More importantly, there’s no easy passage. I ended up changing my mind and decided I wouldn’t go around.

amwbnt.jpg

As early as 30 September I received my first offer from Britain.

eaf7dh.jpg

Soon after I felled Kanawha, forced GB from Monacan and was making my way to Susquehanna. They’ve been soaking long enough. (I’d destroy them in December.) Back in the Baltic, Lithuania and Muscovy agreed to peace with Lithuania ceding Vyazma, Bryansk, Polotsk and 150.

wbzbxe.jpg

At the start of the year here’s a little map action. As you can see, I have some company near London but I don’t think they’re in the mood for celebrating.

2zxywp2.jpg

116tgdh.jpg

A few days later I signed a white peace with Norway, in February I destroyed GB in Onondaga and in March initiated a plan to send my Italian army 5/14/2 to the British island. Manpower wise, its just over 20,000. By April, all of Britain’s armies in America were destroyed. I guess they’ll have to send more.

Late June I was able to weasel my Italian army onto Britain’s soil so my Irish Proper army wouldn’t be lonely.

b64x7k.jpg

A few more months went by and I felled Lenape and Powhatan while my Italian unit went around sharpshooting everything that moved. This war was going to be expensive for Britain. But I didn’t want it to be expensive for me so after London fell in early November, I proposed peace. I’d take Ohio, Kanawha, Powhatan, Mahican, Lenape and 525. BB is 13.84/24.00... I also hoped those other provinces would rebel and defect to either me, France or USA.

xerh9z.jpg

23rtxli.jpg

I would’ve rather taken provinces but I needed to ensure that I could build a stronger military and that I could repay my loan. Britain, no doubt, is going to be stacking her army and I imagine much of it’ll be on the island.

You’d think my colonists would be happy about these new acquisitions but they still want to be on their own.

In September France declared war on Brittany. I remember swearing revenge earlier in the game so I decided to help although I’m really saving myself for Britain. France*, Ireland and Lithuania v. Lorraine* and Brittany. I’d white peace the following year. The war taxes were nice though!

Have I mentioned how much I hate secret societies? I’ll make them learn eventually.

35aqghz.jpg

And then I was thinking about playing the Cardinal game but something told me not to. Call it intuition.

necoev.jpg

In 1806 the French/Brittany war ended with France taking Armor and 83. They’re so lucky its near the end of the game or I would’ve been in on it too.

Late 1806 OE DoW’d the Mamluks pitting OE against Mamluks, Morocco, Swahili, Tripoli, Hassa, Shirvan and Tunisia. I mention this because in 1807 this set off a chain of events...

30 June: Hungary DoW’d OE: OE v. Hungary, Prussia, Pommerania, Flanders and Muscovy.
30 July: Austria DoW Luxembourg: Luxembourg v. Austrian alliance.
30 October: Spain DoW Tripoli: Tripoli, Tunisia, Morocco, Haasa, Oman, Shirvan, the Mamluks and Swahili.

Since both Spain and OE DoW’d these nations, I have to wonder if its an MM inspired event or if things just happened that way. Either way, I don’t think Spain’s going to get very far with lvl 7 forts in Morocco and Algiers.

2 September: Austria DoW the North African countries.

And near the end of 1808, I found my new leader. After getting a number of bad rulers, things are looking good again.

2ufpso4.jpg

I should mention I’m now minting at .3

I took care of my MA with Lithuania and re-signed an alliance with Muscovy. If something breaks out again, I’ll go to war.

2hrzdyp.jpg

By the end of the year I reached +3 stability, converted a few more provinces and discovered Pommerania has a lvl 8 fort in Bahamas. Wow.

Level 8 fort in the Bahamas?:eek::eek:

Nice little war with Britain, though I do have to ask how many troops she had left at the end, and why you settled for peace as soon as London fell? I know you said you didn't want it to cost you too much, just that they seemed down and out is all, and forcing them to release Scotland, Cornwall etc would have been nice to see. :D

Poor America :( Looks like no Manifest Destiny in their future...

Also, keep an eye on those Sons of Liberty ;) (Out of curiosity, what would the other two options in that event have given you?)

EDIT: While I'm at it, I have something for you...

Brandenburg III, for showing gallant persistence in the face of Magna Mundi Platinum, prospering w/ a one-province Irish minor, and writing a pretty darn good AAR which I've enjoyed immensely, I hereby award you one Red Special Cookie!

Should you choose to display it, you can simply copy-paste the following code wherever you so choose (w/o the spaces):

Insert comment which observes various events and leaves either a snarky comment or an amazed emoticon at such various events.

Or something.

You're becoming too powerful, I fear. I now root for your enemies.

The Holy Hapsburg Church doing what it normally does, I see :D.

Also to add to the Specialist Cookie, I award you, somewhat ironically, a Lord Strange Cookies of British Awesomeness
MMP AARs are very very good. Especially this one.

Azugal: It was the cost and that the game is coming to an end. My plan was to try to sneak in two more wars before the 1820 end date without breaking a truce. I also don’t like to do anything too gamey like DoWing Britain’s allies or guarantees just to have another shot at her right after she’d been manhandled.

Pommerania is a little surprise in this game. She has the Bahamas forted up nicely and still owns Greenland after all these centuries. And with a fort that size the people living within it must be known as the Bahamamaniacs.

Specialist290: More than likely the other two options either included bb, revolt risk or something to do with cash. When I’m playing as a decent, free subject loving power (or trying to save money/lower rr), I try to stay away from doing things like instituting martial law. I’ll look through my last few pictures and see if I took one of the other options. If I have it and find it, I’ll post it with the end game summary/update.

The main problem I have is that whenever I load up, I come to the game with different ideas and goals. In one session I might care about rr more than bb, or money more than the other two. It all depends on how I’m feeling when I unpause the game.

Thanks for the award. Since my signature is often so long I don’t put them there; I place them in the inkwell instead. :)

Enewald: I listen to anything that tells me to control the world. Even my dead goldfish.

Beamed: You only have about ten more years to root. If I would’ve known this was going to destroy the popularity of my other AARs, I probably would’ve made an effort to save the game so I could take on France in Vicki.

RGB: Heh, I don’t often open up that window (usually because I’m not playing a European country) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it so decisive.

Lord Strange
: Does this mean I get to add a second L.S. cookie to my inkwell? :p

The first day of 1810 I began minting at .04.

Later, in October 1810, France declared war on the North African nations. Either the OE/Mamluk war opened up something dangerous or this is an MM event. I decided to help by giving lip service to the French: France* and Ireland v. Oman, Tunisia, Mamluks, Morocco, Shirvan, Swahili, Tripoli, Algiers and Bahmanids. There were probably a few more but due to writer’s cramp, I didn’t write them all down.

1zbguqh.jpg

Come December another unexpected loan came around and I decided, screw it, I’m not going to pay it back. I ought to be able to extend it long enough to keep me safe and free.

I ought to mention here that around mid-1811 I began signing white peace deals with a few of the African countries and would continue to do so periodically. But here’s something a little more interesting. Paraguay formed out of Portugal. Since they’re both green and hard to see I’ll put red dots in Paraguay owned provinces. Unfortunately for Paraguay, they have 7 land and naval tech, just like the United States.

29ft91v.jpg

On 22 March 1812 I discovered something odd... I’m supposed to be at war with Algiers but Algiers doesn’t exist. I resigned myself and said that I’m close enough to the end that I hope the war exhaustion doesn’t affect me too much.

23 October 1812 I discovered France had somehow become embroiled in a war against the Great Britain alliance. France has a few other alliances outside of the one we share; I assume it was two inconsequential nations DoWing one another.

If you’re wondering why I haven’t declared war yet, I have a serious reserve manpower issue.

2998o8.jpg

At the start of 1813 I threw caution into the wind and went to war. Ireland*, Bosnia and LO v. Portugal*, GB, Sweden and Loango. That’s right, Portugal sided with the Brits.

2m5dzrb.jpg

At least the Livonian Order are putting themselves to use. They’re marching off to Sweden with 2000 infantry. Something tells me their war against Sweden won’t go well.

2ajhgi.jpg

Meanwhile, in March, I headed toward London again. I’m hoping my general survives until the end of the war because taking on 0 attrition with almost 13,000 troops is a great help. So is the dwindling British manpower. (Britain regained 0 manpower in those armies between the months.)

rh63pd.jpg

One month later, the USA declared war on Great Britain. Surely, Britain has their hands full.

2h6uct1.jpg

157lkx2.jpg

Japan* v. Portugal*, Great Britain and Spain.

Meanwhile, I began concocting a plan...

24zx45s.jpg

At the start of 1814 things are looking a little scary. The problem is that Portugal has a lot of provinces, and they’re the alliance leader. I’m going to have to do what I can to get Sweden out of the war to make it easier on me.

j0lb8k.jpg

Things began to go badly...

30scd45.jpg

... but it wasn't all bad.

n4uqro.jpg

By June I’m right where I want to be. I have a unit leaving Portugal and into Spain so I can recruit a general so what happened in Britain won’t happen in Portugal.

2ajv15d.jpg

September I was able to shove Sweden out of the war. This will free up my Baltic army.

16ita2w.jpg

By 1815 the situation is more liveable but as I predicted, most of Britain’s troops have been created in Britain. Its going to be very difficult to break through and I may have to settle for the rest of the British colonies.

mp0m.jpg

By March, any hopes of a serious invasion are dashed. I was going to try to head into the Carribean but now I want revenge against Portugal.

33xernd.jpg

Mid-1815 the US and Portugal signed a white peace which also ended the United States war against Britain.

Before the year let out, a trade crisis hit which slid into my favor. Who cares about inflation this late in the game?

nnjeok.jpg

1816... Portugal has something of a rebel problem.

2ef3o5h.jpg

In May, France signed a white peace with Britain. If only they made an active effort to invade Britain... Five days later France DoW’d Creek and I went along. I have nothing to lose.

1 June 1816 Lisboa fell. They won’t accept my offers of peace either despite my ownership of their capital and half of their provinces in Europe occupied by rebels. This is going to be one of those situations where if I don’t get what I want, I’m going take more than I want.

2iaquxd.jpg

With the rebels occupation, assaulting and sieging Portuguese provinces are very easy. Needless to say, I steamrolled a number of these provinces.

e1ojp.jpg

By 1817 I signed a white peace with Creek and advanced my positions in Portugal.

2vv0v85.jpg

In March I signed a white peace with Loango because I could and France went to war with Brittany again. This time, I didn’t help. I want to make sure I can get the best peace deal possible. By June I had fallen a few more Portuguese provinces and a few of Britain’s colonies. 9 June 1817 the war ended with Portugal ceding to me Britain’s Pennacook, Pocumtuk, Unami, Deleware, Manahoac and Portugal’s Beira Interior.

zwj70i.jpg

Within the month Spain offered an alliance, which I signed.

pltp1.jpg

And in September, France followed.

2crrsrt.jpg

Come 1818 I’m not making any money and since I can’t go to war with Britain again, I decided to end it here. If I were actually making money I would’ve went on until the end game popup came up but I can’t explain why there wasn’t any money coming in.

9ibqfb.jpg

In three days I’ll put up a summary, what I could’ve/should’ve done along with whatever else I can think of.

Any thoughts of a conversion to Vicky?

Epic and world-spanning.

How is the US doing?

Excellent!

Well done, that looks to be a more than decent result overall.

Colonial revolters always start with the 1453 tech levels, ask MM team why. In my games I usually edit the savegame and give them the tech levels of the country they broke from - otherwise they get steamrolled in any war with their former oppressor (or wise and legitimate ruler, depending on your political leanings ;) ).

Anyway, great job with Ireland, you've really been pushing the limits. I'd never be so megalomaniacal ;)

Nice job!

1. Regarding why you were still a "lesser" kingdom:

Did you ever notice any notifications of being "Major Power" vs Medium Power? Or even Great Power?

If you are a (Lesser), and you grow enough to become a Major Power, you need prestiege over 50, and a ADM 6, DIP 7 ruler, and you need to be at peace, and then eventually an event will fire that upgrades your status.

If you read the manual, there's a point system for determining what power you are.

Manpower, Monthly Income, and number of Provinces are the 3 biggies. (Other factors that look like you might have had is Owning a CoTs, or several CoTs).

Considering how unlucky you were with your leaders, and the fact you were at war a lot, it wouldn't be surprising that you never had the event fire. In my current game I nearly fell out of my chair when I got a ruler with the requirements for the Emperor (Greater) type event. I set back an entire invasion and resigned myself to stay at peace his entire term on the hopes I could get the event to fire. Luckily it fired after a little under a decade.

2. You were at war with Algiers which didn't exist? Sounds like the silly Berber Pirate's Sunset bug. There's an event which can be fired which ends the pirates reign of terror on the mediterranean. It causes all the pirate nations to declare war... including those that no longer exist. I think there was a fix posted a while back by somebody, but since the team is working on MMP2 right now, they aren't releasing patches with major fixes.

Infact, this may be why France went to war with so many countries... he fired this event... and sicne you answered to call to war, you got pulled in against an enemy that doesn't exist in national form... A War on Piracy, if you will. ;)

3. Did you ever get any monopolies? Not the 6 merchants kind, the kind that gives you a bonus to trade efficiency. "Limited Fur monopoly" or "Tobacco Monopoly." It comes from owning X amount of provinces that have a certain resource. Not all resources give it, but some of the more important or rarer ones do. I ask because you cut a great swath into N.A, and you might have been able to pick up a Fur or Tobacco monopoly, depending on what the provinces decided to produce. (You would have noticed every time you were at peace after ending a war. A few popups would appear on the first of the month: The Colonist one, and then the monopoly one as well.) (You can see these by looking in the triggered_modifiers.txt in the common folder of the MMP mod. There's tons. There's also neat goodies like owning 10 cotton, tobacco, etc, and having a slave province: 5% production efficiency. Or owning 10 spices provinces and having at least 10 merchants out: 20% trade efficiency.)

4. The summary. Well, a world map picture would be nice (F12 and Shift+F12 to take a world map with only your empire visible), and also what your final ideas were. And tech levels.

The world map pic might also explain the holy hapsburg church, depending on how many provinces they have taken....

5. I have NO idea why you would be having no income... Surely your taxation percent can't be 0?

6. AWESOME JOB.

7. REALLY AWESOME! :D:D:D

it was a great read!
too bad you haven't sent the bigger island down to the ocaen bed
you colonial empire is impressive though
your measly income is weird?!

as for revolters, that's sad, with 7 techs they stood no chance
as for austria-owned curia, in all my games habsburgs are the only ones who are willing to send bribes - this might be the reason

planning more MMP aars?
