Now I know this horse has been beaten to death ad nauseum on this forum, but I'm feeling particularly frustrated about it at the moment so here you go.

grD6Rz1.png

For reference, the population of New York City in 1680 was around 3000 people.

Don't get me wrong, I love EU4, as evidenced by my over 1000 hours of play, but mechanics like this make the game less fun for me.

Not only do the Iberians rush to colonize Siberia like it's their only goal in life, but when I try to take it from them, I get tens of thousands of rebel stacks.......per month? This is under 100% overextension too.

That's just dumb.

Anyways, that's my venting for the day.

the last time i tried playing eu this ruined my game. 12+ provinces on 3 diff continents all with a monthly revolt risk of 15-25%... the probability math on that is just bad game design.

Humanist ideas would likely work wonders in a case like this, -2 global revolt risk, initial nationalism revolt risk reduced by 1/3, and herretic religion revolt risk reduced by 3. Combined with harsh treatment, you might even reach 0% in the new provinces. And if paired with full Offensive along with it, you can reduce the initial nationalism to half of the normal by adding the policy.

I hope the same, but Bermuda (and all other colonization islands with no native population) should not be the type of province the game is balanced around. There are just too few such places.

I know it's been beaten to death, but I still agree with you. I keep trying to play, but rebel hordes just make me want to shut it off. I got through one game recently and am doing a multiplayer co-op game, but in the MP game, there was a point where rebels got bad and I would have shut it down if I was playing by myself. That had nothing to do with overextension either, it was low legitimacy and "random" event rebels / stab hits that were relentless.

At the end of the day, the game gives you lots of ways to get high revolt risk and pop large stacks of well formed armies with good generals. You can't constantly spend your manpower fighting that and have fun.

I've sort of surrendered though. Paradox wanted this, so that's what it is.

yea, and in real life, it would probably take you 4-8 months to even find out about the rebellion in Bermuda, and you wouldnt be able to just be like, lel, lets load up 30k troops on these transport ships and ship out tomorrow

i dont like big rebel stacks, but they need to be there and realistic for the challenge especially rebellion wise, a lot of successful rebellions were small, they were just far enough away that the logisitcs/power projection of the empire couldnt defeat them without upsetting the balance in europe (ie, if im conquering india as a euro power, i can move 100% of my army and navy there to crush everything, when in real life, any move like that would give my enemies time to burn every village and town, kill every man, rape every woman, kill every rape baby 9 months later, and then go get tea/wine/brats before my troops in india even hear about whats going on) lots of shit isnt realistic, if you are having rebel problems its because you mismanaged your empire, blame yourself, lots of things are balanced for gameplay, you just suck at it

its just as realistic as seeing russia moving 60k stacks through siberia or generals being able to instantly teleport globally to another regiment (the things those 15th century nations knew would surprise you).
i do understand the frustrations of seeing a 2bt, 40 manpower province spanning like 20k troops with a 2 star general though. paradox is as the company name implies: a paradox!

Was that a NOV start? Or how did you switch to Republic, otherwise assuming it was MOS?

Iberians colonizing Siberia isn't that bad, actually - you can size their colonies for like 2% WS each :) In my current game I've got no colonists at all - they are overrated anyway.

Things like this makes me desire ability to do genocide since harsh treatment become not really that harsh in latest patches. No people - no problem. You can resettle barren land later.

Agreed. But i guess it shouldnt be too difficult to end with teleporting generals (a good solution might be having to attach a general for a whole year to the same army, or halving an armys organization when you attach a general) or with 20k rebel stacks in poor, undeveloped provinces.

yea, just the ability to move troops around and supply them is pretty ridiculous, the persians at the battle of marathon in 490 BC held the record for the largest amphibious landing in history until D-Day, logistics won as many wars as battles, and disease was more decisive than engagements

dont get me started on naval battles either, i'd love to see one in history, where a.) threedeckers actually successfully engaged frigates, sail away you idiots, your ships are faster b.) two large navies met, and the battle ended decisively with the majority of ships being destroyed, hell in the battle of Trafalgar, possibly the greatest decisive naval battle in history, france and spain lost 22 ships, 21 of them were captured, one was sunk, the battle of the gravalines back during the days of the spanish armada saw hundreds of ships of different sizes engage each other, 5 were sunk or captured, but i forget about one goddamn trade fleet, and 12 heavies sink 40 frigates, damn youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, but really, on me for forgetting

Or treat them like merchants or diplomats and attach travel time. Perhaps recruit one in the province they are in as you would any unit type. I was making a cynic remark that in no way means 'change the dang generals'. Im just agreeing with the silliness attached to rebel sizes in certain provinces. I am excited for the expansion and am all for stronger rebels, but it needs to make sense. A 40k or even 100k stack popping up in Nanjing yes, but a 20k in Deren?
