If they want another Steam review bomb yeah.

They need to have or have a replacement to every feature. Not buying it twice. I have spent over 500 bucks on ck2 over the years.

The idea of the new game is to not read old ground all the time.
I'd expect unique expansion packs that they were unable to do in CK 2.

hopefully they can iterate on things they did poorly in previous editions like merchant republics.

it already seems that we're getting customizable heresies from the get go, so that's nice.

I'm certainly not buying this one on day one. I got burned on Imperator, and I'm wary about no nomads and no playable republics.

This is where I am. I don't trust Paradox to deliver on what I want as of now, and none of the stuff I would want from a CK2 successor has really been mentioned so far. EU4, a game I genuinely loved, reached a point in its development where I no longer enjoyed it. I liked Stellaris, but I had too many technical problems with it. HOI4 is fun to a degree, but has weird technical problems to keep me from really enjoying it. And Imperator Rome finally "burned" me.

Problem with TS4 for me wasn't that it removed DLC features from TS3 rather what it removed from the base game. But I do get what you are saying.
I have high hopes for CK3 because they were bang on with the last few expansions of CK2.
I don't want all the mechanics from CK2 and it's DLCs either rather the one that worked well and can be integral part of the base CK3 systems.

It is sure that they drew back things they didn't like in CK2 (like Nomads and Merchant Republics) and bring them back differently in DLCs. Currently I have seen to less to make a final judgement. I kinda liked Imperator at the start, it wasn't great, yes, but it wasn't as bad as everybody made out to be. For know lets see what it delivers in the dev diaries and other information from the developers and than I can paint a clearer picture about what their goal is.

I might just be a corporate shill, but I'm actually buying on day one. I bought Imperator with the intention of not playing it for at least six months to a year to let the content catch up, but I want to push those sales upward. Paradox makes my favorite games in my entire library, so I'll buy something even if I know it won't be exactly what I want right away.

and this game isn't made by the people who made those games, it has a different dev team and they've learned. the game also has already had a longer development cycle than imperator, and unlike Imperator and Stellaris, it has a base to build off of in CK2. there's no way it will come out barebones and empty, they already have stated it has more than CK2 had on release
See, that's the problem. It should have MORE than CK2 now. Why would I buy a shaved down version of a game I already own?

Yes you are. I can tell you love these games but have you ever considered that blind loyalty would hurt them? You need to push back. They need to be reminded to have standards. They can and will walk all over you and blame you while they do it. Like with imperator where it was claimed that it was us with unrealistic expectations and that they did everything they should have until the reviews sank and no one played it.

Because it has a new engine and is costs less that what you paid for CK2 and all its DLC.

It's inevitable that when moving from one game to the sequel, DLC features get lost. The Sims are absolutely among the worst of it, hence me not buying into new ones, but I'm not too worried about CK3.

Sure, it's to be expected that some features we take for granted now may reappear as DLC, but the material we have now implies that we'll be getting a lot of CK in the base game. Moar features in future DLCs, inevitable. Some might be old features we paid for in CK2? Maybe, but will most likely be built with new CK3 considerations in mind. So a far cry from having to rebuy the Pets expansion, Seasons expansion, University expansion each and every game forever.
