Did anyone else notice the very ominous sinking of the 'Empress of Japan' transport flotilla? It neatly coincides with the fact that the Allies no longer have any hope of further meaningful ground operations: their days as a real threat have ended, I feel.

Just curious Remble , when you take over the world, will you leave Manitoba (Central Canada) as a puppet/semi-independent nation? After all it is rather cold here (-50*C) and there isn't really anything except for grain elevators and semi-frozen cows...

That or the Canadians really need to think about updating the names of their flotillas.

Yes, really. Nothing will strike fear into the hearts of the Japanese more than one of their enemies naming a "SINK ME! SINK ME!" transport after Japan.

Hey another Manitoban! I live in Brandon.

I have been following this AAR from the start and have loved every moment of it. I like how you are using the IJN in an almost guerrilla war style of fighting, only engaging large allied fleets when you absolutely have to. Although I am also worried that the Soviet Army will smash you in China unless you have an awesome plan to deal with them.

Good job and keep up the good work!

Aww, shucks. Pity about the lost interceptor squadron! I hope these fighter incursions are not going to become commonplace, as that could turn out to be a major headache.

Good job in India.
Also, I'm very curious as to how you hope to beat the Soviets. Cut them off in Siberia by going north through Kazakhstan? I mean, damn, they have like five times your number! AND way more armor! AND way more air forces!
Wailp, we'll see :).

The Soviet Airforce is crap though.

I'm glad to see that India is under control, with those brillian operations of yours, I assume it is at least. :eek:o

I don't think you have a slow updating pace either, pretty much every day, which is awesome. :)

Great AAR Remble!
It took me some time to go through, but it was worth.

2 questions:
- what is partisan component of your TC loss? I understand that you are strapped for IC but maybe a single serial line of Police brigade would help?

- your air defense seems to be worse and worse. You are taking loses to strategic bombers, so far enemy fighters did not concentrate on you and number of enemy aircraft is increasing, not decreasing.
It looks like new fighters are badly needed (and old ones need upgrades = staying on ground) - how about sacrificing some infantry runs to build fighters?

You are doing great job sinking enemy navy, but your is also very slowly diminishing (not counting ex-German subs) but if enemy will take Guam and other islands they will start bombing your navy and industry and even stopping cold Red Bear in Chinese mountains will not help much.

Just my thoughts - I have no doubt that you will prevail.

Great going and great to hear that you will attack the Soviets if they chose not to honor their obligations towards their de facto allies. Such people need to be punished. ;)

Since the game is hard enough I vote that you trigger the event where the SU declares war on Japan rather than declaring war yourself. That way you'll at least avoid the dissent.

Regarding your plan to hold Ahmadabad until relieve forces arrive: sounds like the Japanese variant of your former allie's "no retreat" doctrine. I hope you have more luck than they did. :D

And finally, a minute of silence for your lost squadron.

Daigle - Welcome aboard and thank you. One post a day will have to do or the suspense parts won't have any effect :)

ColossusCrusher - I think Oman is the last of the British puppets to DoW anything else will be a little more awkward.

Electric Sheep - Their naming policy needs some adjusting certainly.

Dasfubar - If I do not capture Manitoba then I will eventually be overrun by half frozen cows so it will have to fall.

Fgorginator, Maj. von Mauser - Thank you :)

Kaiser_Mobius - Thanks. I do have a plan for the Soviets as Panzer6 pointed out. It might not be an awesome plan unless it works.

Lord Strange - India will probably be a lot different by the end of June.

oddman - I had to lose an interceptor at some point, it did its job while it was there though. My initial response to the Soviets will almost have to be time for space and to slowly grind them down. I will attack where I can though.

Juan_de_Marco - If I had the manpower I would add brigades to my troops but it will have to wait.

zdlugasz - Thank you and welcome. TC will be broken down in the meeting to follow. I have enough interceptors they are just out of date. Once they are upgraded the Allies bombers will begin to lose a lot more. My Naval losses are very small considering the situation and the enemy is suffering a lot worse than I am :)

Sokraates - Stalin is going to attack in August I have heard and I can wait that long to find out. I also get a slider move in June which will be used for interventionism to reduce the dissent hits for DoW's by me. I will still get 1.1 dissent because I am not totally authoratarian yet.

Monthly update to follow including some information asked for by String Theory and zdlugasz ...

Update (June 1st 1945)

0000 June 1st 1945.
Imperial Palace. Tokyo, Japan.

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." Hideki began the monthly meeting. "Minister Mamoru has an update from a recent meeting he had and we will begin with him."

"Your Majesty, Gentlemen. Another of the British puppets was forced to declare War upon us, and as a result, we are now in a state of War with Oman. Their military forces are almost non-existant and they pose no major threat to our operations.

Diplomatically I will hopefully be able to begin trading for more energy during this month as production is switched from our current builds. The situation for this resource is deteriorating rapidly and needs to be addressed.

Some other interesting discussions have been overheard but I will let Minister Kuniaki go into those in more detail as his agents provided most of the information. Nothing more for today." concluded Mamoru.

"Resources problems were bound to come back to haunt us but we have done well with what we have managed to gain so far." stated Hideki. "Military next please."

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." began Tanigawa. "Our operations in Burma are winding down and we have almost secured that area completely. India is still a fluid battle with gains switching from side to side as force sizes dictate. The Pacific is quiet and enemy fleet activity continues to drop off with very few sightings and even less engagements. We have made some plans for some areas which Minister Satoru will go into in greater detail." Tanigawa concluded.

"Thank you Minister Tanigawa. Your Majesty, Gentlemen, good morning. As has already been said we are making good progress overall with only minor setbacks for the last month." Satoru began.

jun1450000pac.jpg

"The Pacific is unchanged with no territory lost or gained during May. Our increased interceptor presence in the Marianas has seen enemy bombing reduced but it is still an ongoing problem. Our losses in this regard remain high and will continue until we can upgrade our interceptor forces or try something else to stop halt these attacks.

We will be launching a secret operation in this regard which will require minimal forces on our part but does carry some risk of enemy interception. Some scouting will be required before we launch this operation but forces will move into position in readiness."

"You realise that you will be accompanying me after this meeting Minister Satoru?" asked Hirohito.

"Yes your Majesty." Satoru replied.

"You have a codename I trust?"

"Yes your Majesty. Operation Realisation."

jun1450000asia.jpg

"Asia has changed to some degree, most notably in Burma. As usual I will go into each area in greater depth."

jun1450000nech.jpg

"Kwantung Army forces are now almost all present. We are waiting for some deployments from Burma to provide an armoured force which will operate initially from Xinjing. In all probability these forces will move north to reinforce Harbin. We are still awaiting the last set of infantry divisions to arrive, which are due in the first week of June. Six of these divisions will move to Chongyin and the remaining nine will stay in Fukuoka for possible amphibious operations.

Other forces across northern China are still deploying and should almost all arrive before the end of June. The only forces that will arrive later will be coming from Burma and do include some more armour which will redeploy to Changde. In the unlikely event that the Soviets do attack and force our troops backwards in Manchukuo, Changde will be the last bastion of defence for our Manchurian puppet.

All forces should be present in this area by the end of July at the latest. No further build up of Soviet troops has been evident in this area."

jun1450000nwch.jpg

"North western China has seen little change and we will begin offensive operations in this area soon to drive the British forces out. This will coincide with an advance across India to capture the southern areas as shown.

You will notice that some advanced Soviet deployments have begun to arrive on this border and we are keeping a close eye on developments. Urumqi will be receiving some fairly substantial reinforcements from Burma during June."

jun1450000ind.jpg

"The situation in India is going to change a lot during June. Our current amphibious landing in Ahmadabad will remove the last Allied airbase in the region and we will begin to advance across the entire area. We are already moving forwards where possible in the east and we expect to continue to do so with little to no forces being present to halt our progress.

All of our Tactical bomber squadrons will be operating in India shortly to speed things along. There is an enemy fleet in Bombay and we think that is the British Battlefleet as it was not in Ahmadabad. Our bombers will investigate once they have removed most of the enemy ground troops in India.

We will lose Karachi to the British but it was a sacrifice to ensure we captured their airbase. We will take it back when the time comes as we do not think the Allies can respond quickly enough to what will become a fast advance by our troops. Some naval presence will remain on the west coast to try and prevent any enemy Transport ships reinforcing the area."

jun1450000burm.jpg

"Burma is almost completely under out control. Marines will enter Moulmein at 2100 hours today, at which point our southern troops will attack Kra and hopefully capture the enemy forces present. These troops will then advance into Kra before being redeployed north. We will be leaving some forces behind to garrison the large amount of beaches in the area."

jun1450000army.jpg

"I also have an update on our current force strength for the Imperial Japanese Army. Fifteen more infantry will be added during June and this will complete our planned build up. Forces from our puppets are also adding to our numbers and Manchukuo in particular is contributing well in this respect. Nothing more from me and I will hand you over to Minister Jun for an airforce update." concluded Satoru.

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. The Imperial Japanese Air Force suffered its first loss during May and is still in a bad repair state. This should improve greatly during June." Jun began.

jun1450000air.jpg

"Our force strength is little changed but with the final two Tactical bomber wings due in mid June we will have a total of sixteen of these squadrons. Some of them require upgrades as do all of the interceptor squadrons. I have requested some new production from Minister Ginjiro for the coming months to increase our abilities. I am sure he will cover that during his briefing.

Our Tactical bombers will initially operate as three forces in India with the older types concentrating on the north initially. The next oldest will operate from Ahmadabad once we capture it and begin to destroy forces in south western India. The modern ones will take care of the furthest south enemy troops from Ahmadabad.

Once these forces have been neutralised they will all begin to remove any opposition north of Ahmadabad, and after that is complete turn their attention to whatever is in the harbour of Bombay.

Our Interceptors will continue with their current operations until further notice. Nothing more from me so I will hand you over to Minister Osami for a Naval briefing." Jun concluded.

"Thank you Minister Jun. Your Majesty , Gentlemen, good morning." Osami began. "The Imperial Japanese Navy has had a quiet month and is waiting for repairs across almost all fleets."

sunk.jpg

"Losses have been mild to put it bluntly of late. We lost one Destroyer Flotilla, 10 Kuchikukantai, and other losses were spread throughout various Allied Countries. Another five Transport Flotillas were amongst their losses. No major Allied ships were lost."

jun1450000navy.jpg

"The Imperial Japanese Navy is now almost one third Submarine Flotillas and we are directing research to try and catch up on our almost total lack of Submarine doctrine. This will take some time as will repairs to most of our vessels.

Minister Satoru eluded to one operation being planned wich will require some naval support and we are also planning a second operation totally comprising of Naval assets. The target has already been decided upon and it is just a case of getting the assets where they are needed before we launch this operation. It is possible that both secret operations will be running together and we have the forces to do so without increasing risk."

"You can accompany Minister Satoru after the meeting Minister Osami and I think Minster Tanigawa can join us as well. I trust you have a name for this operation as well?"

"Of course you Majesty." both men replied. "Operation Trust."

"I have nothing more to add." concluded Osami.

"Intelligence please." said Hideki.

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." Kuniaki began. "No new agents have been placed during May due to the shortage of funding and as a result the following reports are not totally accurate."

jun1450000intsov.jpg

"Soviet industry is the same and their ground forces are on the higher side of estimates this month. We will be outnumberd by roughly five to one in infantry and twenty to one in armour if they attack us now. They completed research into Agricultural Production.

One of my Soviet agents managed to glean some information from inside the Kremlin and it involves a diplomatic meeting between the Soviets and British. Apparently the Allies want Stalin to attack us now, and judging by the reaction of the Allied diplomats after their meeting, it seems that Stalin stalled for time. The agent reports that an attack in August looks the most likely but he could not confirm anything specific."

"Would our forces be ready in all respects by August Minister Tanigawa?" Hirohito asked.

"Yes your Majesty they would." Tanigawa replied.

"Let us hope that this is true then and not just an elaborate ruse. Please continue Minster Kuniaki." stated the Emperor.

"Thank you your Majesty."

jun1450000intuk.jpg

"United Kingdom industry is still fluctuating due to resource shortages. No new research projects as far as we can tell.

Very little has changed as far as their combat forces are concerned. They do apparently have a Battlecruiser now and have lost fifteen smaller ships, which we know is wrong because we didn't sink that many."

jun1450000intus.jpg

"United States production is unchanged and no research has been completed.

Their infantry strength jumped by twenty five divisions duirng the last month, again not very likely but possible. Battleship numbers also jumped to twelve from seven most likely due to previous false estimates.

One of my agents in America also managed to acquire some information of note, although possibly unreliable. I thought I would share it with you though so you can be prepared just in case it is true. My agent managed to get a Naval Attache sufficiently drunk that his tongue loosened slightly. It seems that the latest bombing campaign is a direct predecessor to possible further invasions in the Marianas. Anyone who is anyone knows about the large bombing sorties in this area though and he could have just been trying to make himself seem important."

jun1450000intjap.jpg

"We completed one research project during May, Small Arms Assembly Line, and I expect no new projects to complete this coming month. Nothing more from me today." concluded Kuniaki.

"Industry please." said Hideki.

"Your Majesty, Gentlemen." began Ginjiro. "As Minister Mamoru mentioned our energy situation is turning dire once more and we will need large amounts of this resource to keep our factories running at 100% efficiency."

"Our other stockpiles are sufficient for some time, especially once the large stock of supplies in southern Burma becomes available. I will need to increase supply production to allow for large energy trades in the future.

Infantry production and aircraft production that are currently ongoing will all complete in early to mid-June which will free up a lot of our industry. I have received two requests for more of the tools of war, both of which I should be able to accomodate.

Minster Jun has asked for more Close Support Aircraft to bring his total force up to sixteen squadrons. These will be built in three parallel production runs and will in fact provide him a total of seventeen squadrons as this is the most efficient way to proceed.

Minister Osami has requested some more Destroyer Flotillas to increase the ratio of capital to escort ships across the fleets. This I can also accomodate by building nine in three parallel runs of three ships.

These requests will slow down repair and upgrades a little but are apparently essential enough to make it necessary."

"They are." stated Tanigawa.

"I have also been analysing our Transport problems."

"The largest component is supply for our forces which are mostly overseas. Our current redeployment load is also very high due to the movement of forces north from Burma. Partisans account for a significant portion as well and there is nothing that can be done for that other than to build more garrisons which we do not have the manpower to do. That is all from me for today." concluded Ginjiro.

"It appears that the Bear is finally awake and is making moves in our direction, we shall be ready when the time comes. Progress elsewhere is going according to plan and we are clearly causing the Allies some major problems. Ministers Tanigawa, Osami and Satoru come with me please, and bring along Minster Jun as well, I dare say he has some say in this too." stated Hirohito as he stood and left the meeting followed by the four Chiefs of Japan's armed forces.

I am sure Siam is starting to breathe a sigh of relief. Once Burma is secured, Siam will sit in a nice yellow and blue pocket. Will Siam play a further role, Remble, or will Siam just sorta fade into the background after all is said and done?

Operation Realization...Operation Trust...it sure seems like the Japanese are going for purity-sounding operational codenames these days.
