I'm envisaging a front line somewhere in Persia, and then preparations for defending against Operation August Storm.

And of course, the best defence is a good offence.....

I've been away for a while and man, your updating schedule is legendary. My compliments!

Great progress, too. What are you going to do once the Soviets invade? Trade space in China for time (and then what? Make a stand along the Yalu and in the Himalayas?)?

I see the British have started supplying burma again. Where are they landing supplies?

How are the subs repairing? Bringing them into the Indian Ocean to raid the convoys will both cut supply to the troops facing you in Burma and lessen their supply of convoys in total as well as getting them some experience.

Looking forward to the next update.

Have you considered the following?:

-Take Bombay with your cavalry
-Rebase one fleet, a transport group, and one corps to Bombay
-Assault Aden from Bombay with this force
-This allows you to...
a.) blockade the entire Red Sea for convoys (very lucrative)
b.) Take out Yemen and Oman, both major powers in the war against you of course
c.) the RN sends a lot of ships through here, once they hit the Red Sea they are very very easy for your bombers to find.
d.) you can hold your base of operations in Aden very easily with no more than three divisions

So long as Saudi Arabia stays neutral you're golden, no land assault.
Keep up the good work!

germanpeon, thatguy - Largely they will be pushed against the sea for reasons to be explained in the update.

Maj. von Mauser - Not totally out but getting there :)

Striker475 - Persia would be nice but unless I can capture a port in western India I cannot stop reinforcements. They can still march them there through Iraq and Persia if they want to as well. Offence is my normal defensive course :)

ColossusCrusher - The only peace is by annexation ;)

oddman - Thank you and welcome back. The Soviets invade I kill them. I try and keep things simple.

String Theory - Their new depot is in the update. Subs are needing repair and only the one group of four has arrived so far. The rest are not due for weeks at the earliest and then will need probably a month or more to repair before going operational.

Chipseal - A nice idea which would be nice to try except:

1. Bombay is not a port and I cannot use it to base ships.

2. I don't really have enough spare troops to do it right now.

3. This will increase the area I have to defend even more and I am stretched as it is.

Blockading the Red Sea would be really nice though and the only port available in range is Ahmadabad in western India which has an unknown defensive force.

Monthly update to follow ...

his bombers are busy enough and he doesn`t have many of them, he can`t spare neither aircraft nor infantry. spreading his army is his disadvantage for now.

also game engine does not let player to use the foreign ICs with 100% efficiency. i think it`s 30% without the minister effects and for 11 IC it`s just extra 3.3 IC.

Update (February 1st 1945)

0000 February 1st 1945.
Imperial Palace. Tokyo, Japan.

"Your Majesty, Gentlemen, good morning." Hideki began the monthly meeting. "After last months reports we will return to the more standard summary reports beginning with Industry."

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. Dissent amongst the population has been reduced to the minimum level possible, and the industry that had been designated for that purpose has been re-allocated." began Ginjiro.

feb1450000prod.jpg

"Our Transport Capacity is higher than we would like and is caused by partisan activity and excess supplies needed for offensives in the most part. This is unlikely to reduce significantly but there are possible research opportunites to increase our base level.

Stockpiles are still high but are reducing at a high rate as always. The rare materials problem will be explained in greater detail during the military reports as Minister Satoru has the map. Supplies are increasing fairly quickly but there is an almost constant need for more due to offensive operations.

Financially we are fine but Minister Kuniaki has begun to put some holes in our funds with an increase in espionage activity. Manpower is growing at a steady pace which is at the highest it has been for many years.

All of our Escort type vessels are required for convoy duty but I have ordered more to be produced for predicted future usage. Additional Convoys have also been ordered.

Replacements are also now being made available to our damaged forces which should increase as production completes. It will still be some time before upgrades can begin as there was a small delay in production during January to speed along the reduction of dissent. Our first new infantry divisions are due to be raised around February 20th. Nothing further." concluded Ginjiro.

"Military please."

"Your Majesty, Gentlemen. Our Armed Firces continue to perform at the highest level and I will hand you over to Minister Satoru to begin the more detailed Military briefings." said Tanigawa.

"Thank you Minister Tanigawa. Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." Satoru began. "Things have progressed fairly well in all areas during January although we have suffered some losses."

feb1450000pac.jpg

"The Pacific looks largely the same but there is one small matter to note that has changed."

feb1450000pac1.jpg

"British forces captured Tinian island in the Marianas towards the end of the month. This is not considered to be a major threat to the area, although it will allow our enemies to concentrate more on the important islands in the region. All three main islands, Saipan, Guam and Palau, have had their defences increased by one infantry division as per Yamamoto's request. It would take something fairly major to successfully assault any of these islands which would also require a significant amount of air support. The extra interceptor wing is already flying to prevent such air support causing much harm.

We are considering the possibility of moving Carrier Group C to the Marianas to engage the American surface fleets as they seem to be operating without any type of Carrier support. They could be very vunerable to our Carriers but this is extremely risky as they could decimate our fleet if they managed to close to guns range. If we do move Carrier Group C it will not be for at least a month as it is due to support a small secret operation that will start shortly."

"More secrets Minister Satoru?" asked Hirohito.

"Yes your Majesty." replied Satoru.

"You can brief me afterwards."

"Of course your Majesty."

feb1450000asia.jpg

"Progress in Asia is very good and there have been few if any setbacks. The two garrison divisions currently defending Saigon will be moved to China, as shown, to provide anti-partisan coverage. They will be replaced by the two cavalry divisions to their west which will in turn be replaced by one infantry division from the Bangkok garrison. I will go into each area in more detail beginning with the north."

feb1450000sov.jpg

"There has been a significant build up of Soviet forces facing Toyohara. To counter these forces we would require a formidable force but we will instead be removing the garrison and ceding Toyohara if the Soviets attack. It is not worth the forces required to defend it and if the Soviets should attack these forces are going to be needed elsewhere. There has been no build of Soviet troops on our north western Chinese border so this could just be an exercise. We do need to decide if we are going to build up our own forces on the Soviet border and I think we need to decide that now as the first new troops are due this month."

"We will not risk antagonising our northern neighbour for the time being. Any troops sent to Asia must remain away from the front line or it is likely that the Soviets will respond to our build up with one of their own. There is little of value in any of our border provinces so their loss would not be too great with the exception of provinces in north Korea. We are creating forty five infantry divisions Minister Ginjiro?" asked Hirohito.

"That is correct your Majesty." Ginjiro replied.

"Eighteen of those divisions will remain in Japan where they can be deployed to the front lines of Korea very rapidly. The other twenty seven you can move to Asia but they must be out of the front line." continued the Emperor.

"Our puppets will not like losing their territory your Majesty." stated Mamoru.

"They do not have to like it Minister Mamoru. They shall do as I command." replied Hirohito.

"As you wish your Majesty."

"Will this present any major problems for you Minister Tanigawa?" asked Hirohito.

"Some your Majesty but we can work around them." replied Tanigawa.

"Please continue with your report then Minister Satoru." stated the Emperor.

"Yes your Majesty." Satoru replied.

feb1450000ch.jpg

"North western China has not changed at all. British forces still advance and gain nothing."

feb1450000ind.jpg

"India has changed considerably. Our defensive perimeter has been established and is holding with a slow but steady build up of enemy forces facing us. We control all of southern India for now and we are basically just holding. The attacks on this map are merely there as a possibility if our enemy allows us to advance and on the availability of aircraft from the Burmese front. Needless to say Kathmandu would be a high priority to knock Nepal out of the War in this scenario.

You will notice that there is an enemy fleet in Bombay. We may send some of our more modern Tactical bombers to investigate if they can be spared or we may just ignore it. It is not repairing as there is no port which means it is likely to be of little consequence."

feb1450000burm1.jpg

"Burma has also been going according to plan. We have advanced in the north and will continue to do so. Our forces in the center and south are primarily defensive until such time as we can thin out our enemies forces using our aircraft.

British forces arrived in Phitsanulok in Siam a few hours ago and will be evicted immediately. Lashio province will be attacked by our main northern force once they have regained organisation after their march through the mountains.

As soon as our troops arrive in Kalewa we will attack the then cut off British troops in Akyab province. Troops from Arakan, which were amphibiously landed, will support this attack before moving south to Bassein.

Advances in the south will involve the marines in Bangkok mostly as they are suited to the jungle terrain of Alor Star and Moulmein. As soon as Moulmein is taken the armour in the south can be redeployed north.

The main driving force is the army in Baoshan which has a lot of work to do. The Imperial Japanese Air Force will be doing all it can to remove as many enemy troops as possible.

Currently we plan to isolate a small force in the Shan States and the remainder in Rangoon. There is no possibility of taking Rangoon, which is the new depot location of the Allies, without a major force.

Minister Ginjiro mentioned our rare material problems. A lot of our supply comes from Siam. The map shows a very large stockpile in Singora which our Ally cannot move as it has no convoy capacity. Once we can restore a direct link to Bangkok from Singora this problem will resolve and we should receive a large influx of resources.

I will stress that this is how we want the conflict to unfold in this area and it will take months to achieve. Significant enemy reinforcements could halt the entire plan. I will hand you over to the Chief of Staff for the Navy for his briefing, which will highlight why we think reinforcements will not be arriving for our enemies." concluded Satoru.

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. Thank you Minister Satoru." Osami began. "The Imperial Japanese Navy has had another good month although we sustained several losses."

feb1450000sunk1.jpg

"The list of sunk ships during January is huge and some are ours but very few in comparison.

Japanese Losses

3 x Submarine Flotillas - 2, 15 and 16 Sensuikantai.

Brazilian Losses

1 x Destroyer Flotilla.

Canadian Losses

1 x Transport Flotilla.

New Zealand Losses

2 x Light Cruisers.

British Losses

5 x Light Cruisers.
6 x Destroyer Flotillas.
2 x Submarine Flotillas.
20 x Transport Flotillas.

American Losses

1 x Aircraft Carrier.
1 x Battleship.
1 x Light Carrier.
2 x Light Cruisers.
9 x Destroyer Divisions.
21 x Transport Divisions.

75 ships or flotillas in all. Forty two of these were Transport flotillas which brings the total losses of these ships up to 168. These losses are most likely to have crippled the Royal Navy and are having a very heavy effect on American operations as well. We will continue to target these vessels in particular to try and remove as much threat of invasion as possible.

Carrier Group C might move to the Marianas as suggested but not for a while yet. Our other Battlefleets are all needing some repairs and must begin those repairs soon before we have at least one less operational fleet.

One of the three U-boat fleets arrived safely and is undergoing repairs as and when it can before it puts to sea. The remaining two are due later this month or early next month as long as they can stay out of trouble. That concludes the Military briefings for today." concluded Osami.

"Intelligence please."

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. I have managed to increase my network of agents both at home and overseas during January and some reports are more accurate as a result but still not totally accurate." Kuniaki began.

feb1450000intsov.jpg

"I now have eight agents in the Soviet Union and the intelligence report is considerably more accurate than previously.

Their industrial output is unchanged and is still vast.

Their Armed Forces are less than last month by a large margin and I believe that the previous estimate was an over exaggeration. They still have a formidable ground force.

Their airforce numbers are as always way off and should be doubled and their fleet remians little threat and is thought to be on the other side of the World in general."

feb1450000intuk.jpg

"I have not managed to add to my agents in the United Kingdom and as a result the intelligence is unlikely to be accurate.

Their industry is down significantly with a loss of eighteen factories to our conquests in India and Burma. Of even more note is the loss of a total of 128 total industrial output. We believe this is due to a shortage of rare materials as a result of our capture of large parts of their resource network.

The ground force numbers are probably fairly close as the losses mirror the known casualties to some extent.

The Royal Air Force is at least double the size shown.

Battleship and Carrier numbers are unchanged and their small ship count is down by only eight. This is not likely to be correct as they do not have the capacity to produce twenty five new ships a month."

feb1450000intus.jpg

"My agents have increased to six in the United States but this still results in some inaccurate intelligence.

Their production is unchanged from last month.

The numbers say they have lost six infantry divisions. This may or not be true as we do not know for sure what went down with their Transports. We do know at least three divisions did perish after trying to invade Colombo.

Air Force numbers are nowhere near close.

No capital ship losses are evident. We know we sank one Battleship and one Carrier which could easily have been replaced. Their small ship numbers have dropped by only two. They lost thirty three which would mean they replaced thirty one, again unlikely although possible. Our previous intelligence estimates could have under estimated their actual strength."

feb1450000intjap.jpg

"Our own intelligence tells us that there are six enemy agents in Japan almost all of which are Soviet. I should be able to begin to hunt these down towards the end of the month.

The only research project that might complete this month is for a better ground doctrine which will help our forces considerably. Nothing further." concluded Kuniaki.

"We still await the next move from our Soviet friends but it is of no use being paralysed as a result. We shall continue to operate as though they are peaceful but put some measures in place just in case they decide they wish to be belligerent. One War at a time Gentlemen and that War is with the British and Americans for now." stated Hirohito as he stood and left the room followed by Satoru.

Methinks the Allies are hoping to use up all your naval ammunition on their transports before they strike. Duhnduhn! Congrats on the slaughter!

Question: I'm playing Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday, no mods and the Naval Bases in India are at Bombay and Karachi, with one in both Colombo and Trimcomalee. Ahmadabad has no port. I took a closer look at your posted maps and obviously it is a bit different. What version are you playing?

Enjoying all this immensly

The reason its different is that Remble is playing the 1944 scenario and the scenarios are different from each other.

He'll probably take the coastal provinces first. It's easier to do with anphibious landings and it has the added benefit of cutting off their supplies.

He doesn't have the uncommitted forces available to take all the coastal provinces. He'll pinch the Brits against the ocean and squeeze them to death on the beach.

In any case, subscribed!

It seems I've missed quite the Transport ship slaughter. Wow!

But I was a bit worried when I read that two updates ago you sank the USS Cthulhu. Then I looked again and saw that it was actually the USS Duluth.

So the US haven't reverted to calling upon the Dark Powers. Though it may well be the only thing that could help them. And yes, I'm counting Stalin as a Dark Power. :D

@Chipseal: Panzer6 is correct. The best reference to the different setups and also a valuable resource if you want to look something up on the map without starting HoI is Lord Ederon's HoI2 Interactive Online Map.

Edit: I almost forgot: HOORAY for the new secret operation. My guess is that it has something to do with controlling the access to the red sea.

Now if I could only find out how to bug an fictional Hirohito's chambers ... :D

And don't forget the codename!

Most important: The IJN sunk a Brazilian ship... so they are no longer unsinkable ;)
