yes, that is kind off what I meant. But to get back to the topic: who IS that man really?

I was also thinking: Would it be wise to advance across the Sinaii? maybe Eilat and Tel Aviv are far enough, you don't have the Naval strength to take advantage of the Suez channel anyway. Although denying it the enemy is useful of course. But is it worth adding 4 provinces of possible naval invasions to your worries?

alan_le_cowboy - They may not look garrisoned but any with aircraft using them have troops either on them or heading towards them. Both methods prevent partisans capturing the provinces. I am very careful not to allow my aircraft to be captured in such a way.

zdlugasz - More ships are always a possibility but my manpower is going to be almost totally consumed with Garrison builds for a very long time. The long build times of most heavy ships means that I would only get roughly 3 years use from them at most by the end of the scenario.

safferli - I can quite happily devote a very large amount of IC to upgrades for at least six months and still not finish them all I expect.

midget_roxx - We are getting to the point now that the U.S. has very little left to research. We might get to see some units that none of us have seen before soon.

harezmi - 100 German divisions doesn't really bother me much as I know my airforce can win that battle relatively easily. My hesitance is more for dramatic effect than anything else. I may not even build up first and just let them overpower a few Japanese divisions to get them moving forwards right into the waiting arms of my bombers. I will delay such an advance until I have secured the north and Finland though as adding another front with massive troop concentrations is not a good idea when fighting elsewhere.

Sokraates - Brazil and South Africa must be annexed as they have been more annoying than the U.S. and the U.K. combined :)

Nathan Madien, Maj. von Mauser - Thank you. From Wiktionary:

English
Verb
quietened
Simple past tense and past participle of quieten.

Velko, midget_roxx, alan_le_cowboy, UncleAlias, Nathan Madien, Juan_de_Marco - You have secretly stumbled upon the highly secretive mission that has kept Tojo busy for the last three years. He has been infiltrating the Soviet command structure and has almost single-handidly undermined their defences. Better known as General Petrov to his Soviet comrades.

Juan_de_Marco - The strategic value of Suez is more to do with keeping the AI confused. If it concentrates on invading the Middle East then it is not going anywhere near anything vital :)

EnglandWarrior - Thank you very much :)

0400 July 8th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Bokovskaya, Soviet Union.

Resistance had been very limited to the advance of the Central Asia Army towards the Ukraine as the Red Army concentrated most of it's forces further north and east. The arrival of Shimoyama and his Dive bombers had reduced even the meager defences of the Ukraine to almost nothing in short order.

jul8480400gr1.jpg

Uryupinsk contained one of the few remaining enemy divisions currently facing Hata and his forces. Shimoyama destroyed it on July 8th as the Central Asia Army continued to advance both north and west.

jul8481800gr1.jpg

Shimoyama headed north in the early evening to scout for any further enemy troops. He found only three divisions, all of which were moving east. Only one was Soviet with the remaining two being from Finland and Poland.

jul8481900gr1.jpg

General Koiso was still moving forwards despite being ahead of the main Japanese advance already and had arrived in the Energy rich province of Zaporozhye. Yokoyama Isa was also on the move again as he headed south to capture Sevastopol and the rest of the Crimea.

0000 July 9th 1948.
Industry Offices. Tokyo, Japan.

Japanese industry was operating at full capacity as was usual despite lacking raw materials of it's own with which to produce new forces and supplies. The Diplomatic actions of Mamoru and the conquests of the Imperial Japanese Army had managed to sustain Ginjiro's War machine since 1944 without ever running into a material shortage that had caused delays in production.

jul9480000gr1.jpg

The final four Fighter Escort squadrons were produced on July 9th which would allow Ginjiro to divert more of Japan's industrial power towards upgrades to it's Armed Forces. The Tactical bombers, for which the Escorts had been built, were due in early August, at which point a very large number of factories would become idle and these would also be used to increase the speed of upgrades.

2200 July 9th 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Kuybyshev, Soviet Union.

Higashikuni had moved his Headquarters north to Kuybyshev where it would remain to provide anti-partisan protection for bombers using the airbase in the province. Elsewhere Soviet resistance had crumbled along most of the front as Nakajima's Dive bombers destroyed division after division to prevent a stalling of the offensive.

jul9482200gr1.jpg

Not all of the Red Army troops north of Kuybyshev had been destroyed as some had redeployed before they could be but their removal had left Higashikuni with the chance to advance. General Yamada was ordered to advance towards Osa as General Itagaki headed for Naberezhnye Chelnv. Both of these provinces contained twelve factory complexes which would severely dent Soviet production capacity.

jul11480500gr1.jpg

By 0500 hours on July 11th the Finnish Mountaineer division that had first been spotted by Shimoyama had reached Ulyanovsk where Sugawara and Nakajima would destroy it. To the south of Ulyanovsk troops from the Central Asia Army had captured Saratov to provide another airbase for Japanese aircraft as well as deny it's use to the Soviets. The Red Airforce, or what remained of it, was again left with no front line airbases from which to protect it's ground troops in this part of the line.

1400 July 11th 1948.
The Skies Above Rostov.

The Soviet Airforce did not possess much firepower having lost a large number of squadrons during multiple invasions of Vladivostok the year before, but what it did still have tried to interfere with Japanese advances when possible.

jul11481400gr1.jpg

Saboru's Interceptor wing was charged with patrolling the skies over the advancing troops of the Central Asia Army. Soviet Strategic bombers tried to bomb Rostov but were met by Saboru whose much more modern Interceptors tore the older bombers to pieces. All four squadrons would survive but they would all also suffer large losses during the raid.

jul12480500gr1.jpg

The following day two Soviet Fighter squadrons tried to ground Saboru's Interceptors by attacking them over Melitopol. It would be the Soviet squadrons that would be grounded after they were soundly defeated during the dogfight.

0100 July 12th 1948.
East Asia Army Headquarters. Semipalatinsk, Soviet Union.

Terauchi had only one remaining main objective in his part of the front line and that was the capture of Angutikha. The province was of Strategic importance and would require some marching time to reach.

jul12480100gr1.jpg

To get to it Terauchi's troops would first have to capture Yenisejsk which was lightly defended by a Militia division. Lt. General Tsuda was charged with leading the attack which easily overcame the defences.

jul13480200gr1.jpg

Obata and Sakai removed the final division in Omsk on July 13th which allowed Terauchi to advance without restriction once more after suffering a delay because of the enemy build up in the province. The bombers were ordered back to Kuybyshev where their extra range was needed to pursue other Soviet forces.

0500 July 13th 1948.
BB Division 1 Flagship. IJN Fuso, Attu Island.

No enemy Carrier Task Force had been spotted for two weeks which led Ozawa to believe that it was now safe to move his fleets from Attu Island.

jul13480500gr1.jpg

They would all sail together and head initially for Tokyo before heading off on other missions. Only two other offensive fleets were not with this force. CA Division 1 was already in Tokyo and CA Division 3 still provided protection for the Persian Gulf.

jul14480000gr1.jpg

Two new Battlecruisers, IJN Kurama and IJN Hiei, would be waiting in Tokyo for BC Division 1 to arrive and they would greatly enhance it's combat abilities.

1600 July 13th 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Kuybyshev, Soviet Union.

More territory had been seized by Higashikuni's North China Army. The capture of Chelyabinsk province would allow further advances north to capture more vital Soviet resources and industry.

jul13481600gr1.jpg

General Asaka led three divisions towards Ufa as Lt. General Moruzumi took his Infantry corps north towards Sverdlovsk, which was one of the main objectives for the year.

0400 July 14th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Bokovskaya, Soviet Union.

The relative calm that had decended on the Middle East after the last failed Allied invasion was shattered in the early hours of July 14th. The message Hata received from Mj. General Kitajima was short and to the point.

To: Central Asia Army Headquarters.
From: 24 Gundan.

Tripoli beach defences under assault from three American divisions. Will hold for as long as possible. Need urgent assistance.

Mj. General Kitajima.
Commander 24 Gundan.
Tripoli, Lebanon.

jul14480400gr1.jpg

Kitajima would not hold for more than two hours before Hata ordered him to withdraw towards Damascus. Other Japanese forces were moving south to cover the beaches closer to Suez which left Hata with limited options to handle the crisis. It would take three hours for his main option to arrive.

"One invasion, three divisions. Shouldn't take too long to stop this before it gets out of hand." Sakai said to Itabana as they flew towards the Levant Sea which was the only possible sea invasion route.

"Hopefully so." replied Itabana as the two Tactical bomber wings began to search for their target. "Ah." was all he said as he sighted the enemy below.

"Oh dear. Maybe this might take a while after all."

"You see which ones are heading for Tripoli?" Itabana asked.

"Yes."

"You attack those Transports and I will take care of the Escort and then join you." ordered Itabana as he led his wing towards it's target.

jul14480700gr1.jpg

Which of the eight Transport flotillas were carrying the three invading divisions was going to be a little problem to solve and the bombers probably only had two days before the troops made it ashore.

1300 July 14th 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Kuybyshev, Soviet Union.

Several Soviet divisions had been spotted moving north east from Kuybyshev ever since aircraft had first arrived over the area. Higashikuni finally had enough time and spare long range aircraft to hunt them down.

jul14481300gr1.jpg

Obata and Sakai found them north of Sverdlovsk in Berezniki. Six divisions seemed to be a smaller number than had been thought which left Higashikuni thinking that some had been redeployed. These six divisions were not likely to be going anywhere else as Obata's Tactical bomber group was going to pound them into submission.

jul14481700gr1.jpg

The North China Army's Armoured force had not been idle. Hoshinata had moved north and captured Melekess as Okada arrived in Syzran. Twenty four more factory complexes changed hands as the North China Army closed in on completing it's mission to capture the Industrial Capacity of the Urals.

1700 July 14th 1948.
The Skies Above the Levant Sea.

Itabana's bomber group was working as fast as it could to destroy enemy ships offloading troops in the Levant Sea but they could not possibly sink this many ships quickly enough even with the aid of Fukui's Interceptor wing.

jul14481700gr2.jpg

Ten hours of attacks had sank the Destroyer Escort and severely damaged some Transport flotillas but none had been sunk by this time. Attacks were predominantly against one of the Transport fleets which contained three flotillas but the target changed on the 15th as Itabana went after the larger fleet having sunk most of the smaller one. Whether he had sunk enough to prevent the landing in Tripoli only time would tell and twenty four hours of that time had already elapsed.

Wow! You've gotten really far on every front. Soon you have all of the Ukraine!.. I wonder how people living in Stalingrad would have reacted in real life if japanese troops started arriving :p

I had to laugh, and I'm not making fun at all, but I found the 'cliff hanger' amusing. Remble has used this device effectively throughout the AAR to connect the episodes, but I'm not sure a three-division landing in Tripoli warrants any nail biting.

Looks like smooth sailing everywhere. I still can't figure out why the Soviets are sending everybody east instead of defending the Urals or Russia.

Thanks again for this monumental AAR, Remble!

Like I said, the AI goes nuts when you take Suez.

Rather a coincidence, as wasn't it McAuliffe who said "NUTS!" when the Germans asked him to surrender in Bastogne?

I don't think he will have a chance this time.

Interesting update. Thankfully the US keeps you entertained wile the Soviet prefer to be anywhere else but where your troops are. A wise decision. Maybe they hide 51 divisiosns, just to deny you that objective. :)

By the way: the last picture is the same as the fourth-last. I think you wanted to post another.

Perhaps one way Remble could make it intersting if all but 1 squadren of bombers were grouded. That way Remble has to use his ground forces and make some intersting tactics :)

Dr.Dave - Thank you. I suspect they would have been about as thrilled as they were when German troops arrived :)

Reado - Comrade Kalle is correct they are Haitian :)

Beppo - I think that cliffhanger was more for my own benefit as I sometimes forget that I know what is going to happen and you guys don't. Suffice to say that all of those Transport flotillas contained troops as you will see in the update.

Manziel - Oops. Fixed thank you :)

Edzako - Oh it was no small invasion and the AI did manage to handle it fairly well even sending bombers in as well.

Maj. von Mauser - The AI does seem to react to some provinces more than others and Suez is definately one of them. It makes for some entertainment though.

Congratulations on your 250th post in this AAR. That is a very rare achievement. Less than a handful of commenters have made that many posts in the HoI 2 forum in one thread. You have been following this AAR since it began over a year ago and I am glad you have stayed around :)

You follow a lot of AAR's and your Fan of the Week award was very well deserved :)

While it is possible to check the post counts it is not possible to know who views the threads. I am certain there are people following this thread, and others, who have also been here since it started and happily lurk without commenting or rarely doing so. I would like to thank all of you for sticking around as well :)

Sokraates - Thank you. Don't think your post count has escaped my attention either :)

midget_roxx - My aircraft will rotate grounding at some point to be upgraded, but they might not even need to do that if I advance into Europe, as they upgrade automatically in that part of the World.

Nathan Madien, EnglandWarrior - I am afraid Paradox forgot to add in some move industry west events in case of such an occurance :)

Larger than normal update to follow as I had an uneven number of screenshots ...

2000 July 15th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Rossosh, Soviet Union.

The rapid advance of Hata's Army was slowly beginning to tell on his soldiers but he would continue to push them hard until he had no choice but to allow them time to recover.

jul15482000gr1.jpg

The capture of Kharkov by General Ueda allowed him to attack west towards Sumy where he easily defeated the minor defences of the province with support from General Koiso to the south. Yokoyama Isa was already advancing on Sevestapol after swiftly moving south towards the city as other elements of the Central Asia Army advanced across a broad front.

0300 July 16th 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Kuybyshev, Soviet Union.

Higashikuni had always had a harder time during the offensive as his Army was required to advance directly across the Red Army's main route of march from west to east. The enemy forces had been greatly reduced but they were still trying to use the same path eastwards.

jul16480300gr1.jpg

Lt. General Okada was forced to attack two Infantry divisions in Ulyanovsk as he advanced. The Infantry had tried to attack Hoshinata across the river in Melekess but would end up retreating after being hit from the flank by Okada.

0400 July 16th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Rossosh, Soviet Union.

Reports from the Middle East from Itabana and his bomber group showed the loss of some enemy Transports but there were still more than enough to succeed in the invasion of Tripoli. Unfortunately the massed Transport flotillas were not intent on just landing in Tripoli.

jul16480400gr1.jpg

Seven Transport flotillas remained as Itabana attacked again but one of those Transport fleets had already landed a Brazilian Armoured division in Gaza. It was becoming clear to Hata that this was not a small invasion centered on one province and could take more effort to control.

jul16480800gr1.jpg

Four hours later the full extent of the presence of massed Transports in the Levant Sea became apparent. The invasion fleet had targetted four separate provinces along the coast. Itabana had managed to sink five before the troops could disembark and had probably saved Hata from being forced to order a withdraw from the area. He had sunk all of the fleets trying to invade Tripoli resulting in the failure of that particular landing but three other invasions had succeeded.

Along with the Brazilian Armour in Gaza, American troops had landed in both Aleppo in Syria and Beirut in Lebanon. There were more Allied troops available without any doubt and Itabana would switch to his more familiar ground attack roll to assist Japanese ground troops as they fought to collapse all of the landings.

jul16481700gr1.jpg

His first target would be the American Armoured division in Beirut as it could move inland and capture the airbase in Damascus and possibly capture withdrawing Infantry from Tripoli.

2200 July 16th 1948.
Kwantung Army Headquarters. Qiqihar, Manchukuo.

Compared to other fronts the Kwantung Army and it's mainly Manchurian force was having little difficulty in advancing almost at will. The beginning of the collapse of the Soviet lines had started with this Army but it had been relegated to a small sideshow as other Armies continued to advance.

jul16482200gr1.jpg

The attack towards Aidan was routine with the single defending division totally outnumbered by the Manchurian forces besieging it. Kawabe's forces still had some distance to cover before they would achieve their Strategic objectives, but there was little chance of them failing to do so given the almost total collapse of Soviet defences.

0000 July 18th 1948.
Security Offices. Tokyo, Japan.

The large scale advances of the Imperial Japanese Army in the Soviet Union were welcomed by most of the Cabinet whose jobs became easier as time progressed. One member of the Cabinet had the task of trying to contain partisan activity and his job was getting a lot harder day by day.

jul18480000gr1.jpg

The first Soviet uprising occurred in Tikheretsk and was quickly crushed by local Japanese forces on anti-partisan patrols. Hakujiro knew that more were sure to follow as Japanese forces rapidly advanced leaving behind vast expanses of unguarded terrain. He was sure to remind the Field Commanders that they were to guard any airbase in use as the possible losses to the Imperial Japanese Airforce would be unacceptable if they were to lose such an airbase.

0600 July 18th 1948.
The Skies Above Stalingrad.

Little had been seen of the Red Airforce and it's bomber wings with only sporadic encounters with Dive bombers seen so far. A line had apparently been crossed and the enemy began to bomb Strategic targets in the southern Soviet Union.

jul18480600gr1.jpg

The long range bombers could pick from many targets but Saboru had many choices of airbases to fly from to intercept them. He intercepted a Tactical bomber wing over Stalingrad as it tried to bomb the city. Damage would be one sided as the bombers had no escorts but all four enemy squadrons would escape to fight another day.

jul19480300gr1.jpg

Nakajima was also busy as was normal. He had cleared Ulyanovsk and moved north to Saransk where another fairly large Soviet formation was heading eastwards. Hoshinata had also been forced to attack a Soviet division that had reached Kazan and easily forced it to retreat.

jul19480800gr1.jpg

In the Middle East Itabana had also been extremely busy. He had destroyed the American Armour in Beirut and switched targets to attack the Brazilian Armour in Gaza. This time he had sought to disrupt the organisation of the enemy division which allowed General Abe to capture the tanks with a counter attack. The invasions has been accompanied by a large increase in enemy bomber activity as well with American Strategic bombers running rampant throughout the region as well as Canadian Dive bombers targetting Suez. Fukudome's Interceptor wing had been ordered south from the Soviet Union to assist with air control as Fukui continued to protect Itabana's Tactical bombers.
