So, I got back to Vicky after a long (and I mean *long*) hiatus, purchased the Revolutions add-on, and started playing. Darn, it's good. I've completed one GC as Brazil (just to refresh my memory and figure out what's new), and I'm now within a couple of years of finishing another as Sweden/Scandinavia. In both games, Imperial Russia stays as Imperial Russia despite all the internal unrest. How often do they dive headfirst into Proletarian Dictatorship and form the USSR?

personally i've never seen it happen apart from in the 1914 sen, its far too easy for russia to stay stable in the GC...

In this latest game I'm actually allied with Russia (I did that to boost relations so I can buy Finland from them), and it seems to me like they have a massive number of unquestionably loyal foot soldiers who spend their peacetime years marching from one province to the next, taking out rebels on the way.

thats the trouble, in my games as russia i can easily support a huge army, say 200 divs by later parts of the game. i could support more but i think its silly having such a huge army... so theres no danger of revolution. bu mostly because my people are fairly calm, theres barely any unrest, even by the 1920's

Yeah, it looks like the Russian Revolution does need events to facilitate it. Although perhaps, if someone hit the Russians hard and often in the GC, maybe their humongous army wouldn't be humongous enough to quell the uprisings? You'd have to start that pretty early; I thought about it long and hard, but I'm pretty sure that even my large Scandinavian state-of-the-art army would be overran by the massive hordes the Russians can marshal. I bet they were pretty much just vicious peasants with pitch forks and torches, but they seem to have an endless supply.

ETA: It just occurred to me that in either of the games so far, I don't think there was a single Proletarian Dictatorship anywhere in the world in the early 1930s. How common are they in Vicky? (If I made a satellite out of Finland, they might turn into either that or a Fascist state pretty soon; I bought most of Finnish territory, and just about all of the farmer/laborer POPs outside my home region of Turku were either Communists or Fascists.)

I've seen some odd countries go communist. My most recent game (as Texas, so little interference on my part) Colombia and Norway went communist. I've had a game where France went proletariat dictatorship.

Also, Canada seems to always go Anarcho-Liberal Presidential Dictatorship, and the U.S. tends to vote the American Party into power for the last half of the 19th century, destroying chances for a Civil War.

I had the Lenin events fire while playing as Austria when I got into a late game war against Russia. I basically replaced Prussia's importance and got several Germany-oriented events. Incidentally, I also got a natural fascist dictatorship going in that game. First time that had happened to me.

YMMV, though, because I think that was my first GC with VIP installed.

By the end of the Sweden/Scandinavia game, there were two fascist dictatorship Great Powers in the world, France and the US (!). The US got there shortly after the Civil War, I don't know when it happened in France. But no commies in power anywhere.
