Has anyone watched this new Ken Burns documentary about the Roosevelts on PBS? What did you think ?

Why not just do separate documentaries on each?

Besides sharing a last name, there's nothing linking the two.

You essentially cannot get something into the popular sphere without it being high school level (at best) in its discourse.

Most probably because having 7 episodes of 2 hours on Theodore Roosevelt would be too long ?

They are related after all, so it is probably a family thing. I think i taped it on DVR to watch this week, I'll get back to you.

I've watched 2 episodes out of 7. It's more like the story of these 3 persons with, as a background, the evolution of the American society from the late 19th Century until the 2nd World War. Eleonor Roosevelt really acts here as a way to introduce an element of women's history in this particular outlook. It's a great, great documentary. Man I love Theodore Roosevelt.

TR is probably the greatest American of all time. Particularly if you count the number of presently endangered animals that he killed.

Distantly related. Teddy was more closely related to FDR's wife than he was to FDR, even though they shared the same last name.

Doing one documentary on both makes sense only as a marketing ploy. I supposed you could argue "Two of the most interesting presidents in the 20th century" or something but they aren't really a pair.

These animals were not endangered a Century ago and the reason why they are endangered today is because of loss of natural habitat. I think T. R. did better than any American President as far as environment protection is concerned than any other President ever since. I mean he set aside 150 million acres to make parks and wildlife refuge...

It makes more sense when you have seen the documentary. After all, Eleonor Roosevelt was his niece (her father was T.R.'s brother) and she married Franklin. And the documentary is as much about her than the two others.

you are 100% correct. he started the national parks system.
