1939: A World in Flames

cabinet4bn.jpg

On the first day of the new year, Siam released a new economic policy statement, stating that a move to central planning would be necessary to best use the nation's small resources. The members of the cabinet all retained their former positions.

econ1at.jpg

At the beginning of 1939 Siam's economy was in good shape. Stockpiles of resources improved in all areas and the economy was stable.

On January 7th 8. Thai Infantry Division was ready for deployment. It was assigned to 2 Thai Corps in Chiang Rai.

czech8po.jpg

On March 15th Germany annexed Czechoslovakia by threat of war, and partitioned it between itself, a new puppet nation of Slovakia, and a province to Hungary. France and Britain were furious and geared up for an expected war.

With the success of this latest annexation, Germany decided to be bold and claim the province of Memel from Lithuania. Lithuania quickly gave the province up.

albania5tv.jpg

Possibly emboldened by Germany's latest success, Italy decided to send an ultimatum to Albania, demanding the tiny country to give up its independence and become an Italian colony. The Albanian King Zog refused the demands and a war broke out. The war lasted a month, ending in the annexation of Albania on April 27th.

On March 28th 9. Thai Infantry Division was ready for deployment and assigned to 2 Thai Corps.

On March 30th Poland entered a military alliance with the Allies, hoping this would safeguard against a possible German or Soviet attack.

During May Japanese and the Soviet border troops clashed in several large scale battle around Nomonhan. The Japanese were defeated quite badly and Japan changed its plans for an assault on the Soviet Union in the near future.

On June 14th 10. Thai Infantry Division was ready for deployment and assigned to the newly created 3 Thai Corps in the western province of Nakhon Sawan.

On August 21st, Hungary joined the Axis alliance.

On August 24th, Germany and the Soviet Union signed a deal together, known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. They agreed to partition Poland between themselves, and Germany would allow the Soviets to annex the Baltic states.

On August 26th 11. Thai Infantry Division was ready for deployment and assigned to 3 Thai Corps.

tech4il.jpg

On August 28th research on Large Front Doctrine was completed, greatly increasing the fighting capacity of Siam's army. Research now began on Basic Infantry Division.

war4lz.jpg

On August 30th Germany demanded that Poland cede Danzig, and when Poland refused, Germany declared war. The Allied powers quickly returned the favor, and soon Europe was once again engulfed in war.

Taking advantage of the situation, on September 10th, the Soviet Union demanded from Romania the outer provinces of Chisinev, Ismail and Beltsy. Romania, knowing it could not defeat the Soviet Union, atleast not alone, accepted the demands. On October 18th, Romania entered a military alliance with Germany.

On September 15th Estonia caved in to the Soviet Union's demands and became annexed into the USSR. The rest of the world hardly gave notice.

annex3gs.jpg

On October 2nd, after a tough month long fight, Poland was annexed into the German empire. On October 5th the official borders between Germany and the Soviet Union were created in Poland.

On November 4th, 12. Thai Infantry Division was deployed to 3 Thai Corps.

finland8pg.jpg

On November 17th, the Comintern declared war on Finland after it refused Soviet demands on territory. Few gains were made by the Soviets in 1939.

On December 17th in Norway the Altemark incident occured, causing Germany to create plans for the invasion of Norway in the next year.

With 1939 at an end, Siam continued to get larger, militarily and economically. Siam's advances were largely overshowed by the recent events in Europe and the escalating war in that region. But when the time came for a war of its own, Siam felt it would be ready to hold its own.

Is there a "Japan leans on Siam" event when Siam is player controlled. And Nice AAR like seeing people playing as Minors

I don't really know for sure yet. But in the case that there is one, I have altered the results of the event, eliminating the puppet status I would receive and the minister changes, and also eliminating condititions that force me to hand over 6 of my national provinces to Japan. I feel that these changes are all fair, because while the event makes sense for the AI, it just severely penalizes a Siam player.

Soon all of Malaysia, Burma and India will be speaking Thai... Now, I think it would be advisable to build at least one tactical bomber squadron (perhaps only in '41), because air power is realy something very useful. :)

1940: Another Year

cabinet2mm.jpg

A new year dawned on the small nation of Siam, and with it a new move in policy. The policy on the state of the armed forces was revised, with Siam's government moving more toward a standing army, in preparation for the coming wars. The Siamese people were apathetic to this new move.

deployed6nn.jpg

On January 7th, 13. Thai Infantry Division was ready for deployment. This coincided on January 8th with the completion of the Basic Infantry Division tech. Production now ceased on further new divisions, and all available IC was put into upgrading the division already deployed to the new specifications.

tech18zc.jpg

Research now began on production planning, in an effort to increase efficiency in Siam's factories.

On March 19th, Japan declared war on Guangxi Clique, causing all of China's warlords to now be at war with the Empire.

northwar5xq.jpg

On April 10th, in far away Europe, Germany and its allies declared war on the Northern European nations of Denmark and Norway. Denmark would surrender just two days later, and Norway would continue to hold out until July 6th.

westwar1cw.jpg

On May 2nd, Western Europe now received the brunt of Germany's war of aggression, with a declaration of war on Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxemburg. On May 6th Luxemburg was annexed, and by the end of the month both Belgium and Holland would lose their European territories. These attacks continued into France with much force, and soon Germany had secured northern France.

worldinflames7uj.jpg

Situation in Europe, May 28th

vichy1oy.jpg

By June 8th, Germany had conquered enough territory that the majority of the French had had enough, and so a puppet France and some sattelites were formed out of former French territories. Japan, seeing an opportunity to expand, demanded French Indochina from the puppet government. The French reluctantly agreed, and Siam now bordered Japan. The Japanese, realizing Siam wanted its former territory in Cambodia back, agreed to hand it over to them if they joined their alliance in the future.

tech27ox.jpg

On July 27th research on production planning was completed, and research now began on production control, in a further effort to increase efficiency.

endyearindustry1li.jpg

With the help of these efforts, Siam's industry throughout 1940 was efficiently plodding along on its way to greatness. Despite some problems with trades throughout the year, it had a nice stockpile of all the resources it needed and was becoming quite self sufficient. It would need to be if it ever entered a major war, which it planned to.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes everyone, this AAR is not abandoned! :D It was just in a state of inactivity as I have been busy with school, track and everything else. I'm not saying I will be cranking out updates from now on, but hopefully tomorrow I will be able to play out 1941, and then maybe an update will follow. So stay tuned.

As to my battle plan, I will get Cambodia from Japan first, obviously, then attack Britain in every possible direction as fast as possible to get as much land as I can before they reinforce. I expect I will receive no support from Japan in the form of land divisions, so hopefully I will have enough infantry to support myself the whole war. I will find out soon though as I play.

January-May 1941: It Begins

cabinet5sq.jpg

The year 1941 was a hopeful year for Siam. Siam's leaders were increasingly becoming confident that they were strong enough to enter and maintain a good position in any future war. Relations with Japan were very high, making a possible alliance very likely. The cabinet, realizing they should now focus on military matters, once again moved the army policy closer to a standing army.

tech4yw.jpg

On March 16th research on production control was finished, and research began on a new military doctrine in an effort to boost fighting morale in Siam's land forces.

newecon8rr.jpg

On March 26th the finally division was finished upgrading, and enough industry was now available to begin cranking out more divisions. All left over industry was put into increasing the supplie stockpile for the coming war.

ask6am.jpg

On April 17th, with no warning, Siam's leaders asked to enter into an alliance with the Empire of Japan. The offer was 100% guranteed (note: for real, no cheats) and the two Asian brothers were now officially allied.

The New Thai-Japanese Alliance

deal12ya.jpg

deal24eu.jpg

Naturally the first thing Japan did was make good on it's deal to hand over Cambodia, and some bonus techs. Siam gladly accepted. Some days later Manchukuo offered Siam a tech deal of its own, and Siam accepted this as well.

redeploy5zh.jpg

Of course no deals are completely one sided, for Japan needed help. Automatically after the deal Siam and the Chinese warlords were in a war against each other, and naturally, all Chinese trades were cancelled. Siam would not be at war in name only, and quietly Siamese troops were being shipped off to Japanese territory in the North...
