Ramón Martinez looked out across the clear blue waters of the Caribbean. It was going to be a wonderful day. The newest, and only, ship in the Grand Fleet of the Republic was going on its first trial run.
Ok so the thing was made of wood, it was hard to import enough steel to actually build a car let alone a ship. It looked so marvelous berthed.
As he prepared to turn and cut the ribbon so the crew could board the ship he noticed that sail was just peaking over the horizon. That was odd he hadn’t seen a sailboat in ages.
For certain not one that large.
The Hairs along the back of his neck started to stand up and he became nervous. He quickly cut the ribbon and the crew hurried aboard.
Captain Montezuma stopped briefly to salute Martinez before rushing aboard and barking orders.
Ramón turned back to the sail fixated on the steadily revealing ship it was attached to. He could just begin to see the main sails when a flag was raised and he noticed with dread that it was a pirate flag.
“Impossible,” A nearby man exclaimed.
There hadn’t been real pirates for centuries. Of course there was always story’s of ghost pirates but who believed those, Ramon thought.
As the ship neared he noticed with even more fear that the sails of said ship were all black and contained man holes. Even so it seemed to close rather fast. In but a moment the ship turned to present its broadside and opened fire.
Shots blasted into the “Segador” as the ship had been named. The crew tried valiantly to shoot back but they hadn’t loaded any gunpowder on board.
Within moments most of the ship lay in ruins and the crew was swimming back to shore.
The attacking ship stopped its advance and as the Dominican’s watched its crew jumped overboard and into the ocean.
“What’s the point of that,” A bystander asked. Ramon had a sinking feeling he knew that it was simply a scare tactic and it was going to work. They all watched in horror as they could now see the attackers calmly walking under the water advancing towards the shore.
As the attackers emerged from the water the Dominican’s started to turn and flee in terror. All but one of the attackers, were dressed in what appeared to be Pirate costumes.
The one that wasn’t looked right at Ramon and with a gleam in his soulless black eyes said, “We’re here to discuss a peace treaty between México and your country. Do you have somewhere we can talk? It’s hot out here with this blasted sun and everything.”
Twenty minutes later the peace treaty was signed and the Pirates and Greven happily left.
P.S. If anybody can guess which Pirate that flag belongs you get 10 points. 10 extra points if you can tell me the one thing that made taht pirate so rememberd.
