Alright, my own question re: vassal merchant Republics. You're a feudal lord (say, Byzantine Emperor), and you create a series of Merchant Republics underneath you. How will their trade zones interact? More specifically, are the bonuses to trade zones determined mainly on the basis of patrician family, merchant republic, or realm?

To clarify, since zones are supposed to be more valuable the larger they are, does that bonus only apply if your family controls a large zone, or does it apply if competing families in the same MR have a contiguous zone? Or, to my initial question, if competing MRs in a feudal realm have a contiguous zone?

Faction wars that end as invalid on attacker leader death still don't disband faction event forces (a bug I reported a while ago.)

Any stealth nerfs to infinite Mongol doomstacks with no attrition? Would you say that Mercenaries play a way bigger role for republics, and will you be swimming in money to use them?

Mercenaries definitely play a bigger role for Republics, and you will probably come to rely on them a great deal. A successful Republic will have a lot money, yes.

As far as I know, the armies that the Mongols start with still have no attrition but this is something that can be easily modded now.

I'm curious if there is any possibility of a Crusade being diverted, like what happened in 1204 with the 4th Crusade being diverted from Egypt to sacking Zara (Croatia) and Constantinople, creating the Latin Empire. So lets say your playing as the Venetian Doge, is it at all possible to influence (through money of course), the course of a crusade to attack a city you want as a trade port.

Also just as the Muslims get a piety bonus for kicking out traders, do Orthodox or even Catholics get a prestige/piety bonus for kicking out Genoans, Pisans or Venetians, like what the Byzantines did after the Massacre of the Latins?

Also its already 9:35AM here in EST, I thought the Republics was supposed to go live at 15 CET (so 9AM EST)?

Sweet, I read somewhere here that you now can use ruler designer to make your own Merchant family (hope). to bad about non-merchant republics that seemed a pretty defiant no

There is no special mechanic for Republics to influence the course of a crusade, but you are of course free to take part in them.

Let's see if I have correctly understood the trade system.

If you are a feudal lord with a vassal maritime republic, you're interest is to have them build trade posts in your own provinces, right? Because not only will you get extra income from the trade posts themselves, but also take a share of the republic profit through taxes, doubling your benefit, right?

Is there anyways to incite a Republic to build trade posts on your lands outside of having rich juicy provinces and embargoing their competitors?

Youll want them to build trade posts in your demesne provinces atleast, and yes, you get taxes from them, for Sweden the taxes from gotland is a considerable part of their income.

Not easily, but they build cheaper in your territory if you like them and if they have land nearby, and they take cost into account when choosing where to build.

Is there any way to drive a competing patrician family completely out of business, removing them for the big five, without killing all of them?

If you want a family to cease being Patricians altogether in a Republic, then your only option would be to eradicate them completely... unless you somehow manage to have them vassalized to someone else and/or turned feudal, I guess.
