I like your choice for English provinces; the irony is because of the names as related to titles.

i.e. With a province of Norfolk, you can have a DUke of Norfolk, or of Sussex, etc. Talk about making AARs easier!

Man isn't part of Scotland, is it? I thought it was a kingdom in its own right, and a reasonably important independent power in the Irish sea.

It was...

The assignation to countries is related partly to what we know as e.g. 'Scotland' now, and partly on what it was back then... The Orkneys and the Isles weren't part of the Kingdom of Scotland (or of the Scots?) back then either, but I listed them there anyway.

I see that Man probably should be included though...

Go ahead - post! Personally I prefer vernacular name variants, don't know what Paradox will use though...

Actually Havard, where did you get your list of English provinces? Are they just the historical shires, or are they meant to represent the feudal divisions of England in the game's timeframe, or are these two the same thing?

Actually, I suspect England may have to be dealt with in the game in a way that bears little resemblance to history. While the nobles usually got their names from the name of a shire, with some important exceptions they didn't have compact lands easily representable by an EU province, but held lands scattered hither and yon in little parcels in different regions of the country. This was a deliberate (and extremely crafty!) decision by William the Conqueror to keep his underlings from having compact base areas, to make it more difficult for them to rebel against him successfully.

Please comment... I lifted this partition from a couple of websites, where 'Kingdom of Fife' was one of them. I also remember seing references to that name when I passed through there last summer. How did it get that name? I can't remember seing anything about an actual kingdom there...

To be honest I can't find much either. I just know that Fife has always been known as the Kingdom of Fife to the locals. The local radio Station is called Kingdom FM, the tourist board calles the Kingdom of Fife and the people are very proud of this. You have to go way way back to find a Celtic Kingdom centred on Dunfermiline. Which is where the name comes from.
