The problem with EU IV ...

Damn it! Why does paradox support the game so well? If only they released a game and left it alone to die slowly, I could be playing Eu4 vanilla right now as god intended.

Try this one on: I leave for Thailand five days after the next one releases. I'll have my laptop but it's a bit pokey on modern versions of EUIV. It's like five or six years old now. Aw well, such is life!
i can afford to play no more than 4-6 hours a week. Not little, NOT MUCH. I also sometimes play other games...
A tough game takes at least 60--80 hours, i believe, so it is a minimum of 10 weeks if I skip all other games outright
I start playing after the first patch for a new DLC has been released (they call it hotfix). I stop playing once they announce new cool features (CoP was not cool, so I did not stop).

Haven't played EU4 for a while, so the other day I went into the game, about to start as England when I check my emails, there's this email about a new Expansion.....whelp not starting a new game now... its about to become the 6 longest days of my life.
I agree completely with this (assuming that it was sarcastic - on the internet you never know). Well-written.
I quite like to starve myself of EU4 while they are doing the dev diaries I then find more enjoyment in the new features when the expansions get released

Well... the problem seems to be with you rather than with the game. And it all depends on how much you play, really. I finished my last playthrough a week ago, and now I'm patiently waiting for the expansion, having planned a whole bunch of games that I'm gonna play with all the new systems. But that's just me. If you want to play the game now - nobody's stopping you from doing it. You can even continue your games after the patch, by downgrading the client.
I continued playing for a while after the CS diaries/announcements started coming along, but I hit a point about 3 weeks ago where all the playthroughs I wanted to do were ones that would be significnatly impacted by the new mechanics, so I put it on hold.
