History: A member of an old German-American family in Pennsylvania, Faust returned to his family's homeland in Germany for education, and was exposed to the ideals that would foster the Revolutions of 1848 while studying there. He has a general leftist bent, and calls himself a Whig but does not let that constrain him when voting.

The War seems to be going rather well (BBB didn't even have to raise taxes, apparently) and we're at primaries again:

Also, M. Cartwright proposed a 'Buy slaves to set them free' Act, which at the moment I can't find. Then M. Walsh proposed a set of five amendments. Colonel Davis didn't like them so he sued the Whigs, then the Democrats, then M. Walsh and then I think he dropped the suit. We now have Harper's Weekly or as I call it, a lovely & inflammatory piece of slander; obviously there's its liberal counterpart, too. Also BBB's preparing a 'Little something extra', in this case you can write something, and he'll publish it here.

Import Tax: +5%, with plans to move to -5% at some time in the future.

People of America, we have two and a half hours left. Just one vote will tie the primary, two will win it.
There is but one difference between me and Congressman Cartwright and that is economic policy. I now must ask this question of you. As a nation, we produce hundreds of bales of cotton every day, and where do we sell it to? To our home country, to keep our industry going and our lads in work? No! We sell it to Britain and France, so imperialistic foreigners may prosper off the sweat of the American worker! Shall we let this sorry state of affairs continue, I ask you? No, I say! We should build fabric factories to buy this cotton, so American lads get the benifet of American produce! Ah, I here you say, but fabric is unprofitable! There is too much of it, the price is going down! But now, think one step further. What is fabric used for? Clothes, of course! Let us build clothes factories, to buy the fabric we cannot sell!
So people of America, my question is this. Shall we carry on letting foreigner buy the cotton good Americans sweated for, or will we build factories and industry to buy it, and give the American on the street a job to do? If you say, continue on, then vote for Congressman Cartwright, if you say, stand up for our country, then vote for me, for it is the only difference between us, Mr cartwright's initative id his invention but it has my support. You have one hundred and forty minutes left to stick up for the slaving plantation workers, for the man without a job. One hundred and forty minutes.
