((Light blue is New Democrats/Current Democrats, Green is Federals, Yellow is Whigs, Dark blue is original Democrats, Dark red is ACP, Light red is Republican, and I'm not sure about Purple, Black, and Orange.))
((I was too lazy to put a color code since it's not the final definitive version or anything.

I toyed with various ideas for representing coalitions, but nothing really stood out (especially for coalitions that were only one term out of two that a president held, and other oddities like that).

White - Washington is classified as having no party.
Black - The Federalists.
Purple - The Democratic-Republicans
Blue - the Democratic Party (after Jackson's split)
Yellow - The Whigs.
Orange - The National Republicans (the Brass Wing of the Whig Party - mostly given a new color because of the whole party dynamic in the next election)
Red - The State's Republicans/The Republican Party.
Light Blue - The New Democratic Party (later, the Democrats, but they were a far different party than the Jacksonian Democrats)
Green - the Federal Party
Dark Red - the American Conservative Party

if there were pictures for a lot of the competitors, it might be more interesting to show each election's other candidates and their parties (which allows us to bring in new colors for the Libertarians and SNP, who never got to the presidency - and maybe represent coalitions better)

[if anyone has not identified all the presidents yet, it is: row of historical presidents up to Jackson, King, Cameron (2 terms), Walsh, Brass, Cameron (3rd term), Williams (2ish terms), Jamous (2 terms), Mandrake, Callahan, Bridgeworthy, Vallejo, Davis, Hayden (2ish terms), Harrison (2ish terms), Carr in that order]))

I can understand why Mr. Hensdale and Mr. Jarvis have chosen the policies they have. I can even, to a certain degree, sympathize with them. I would love to say that we can stay out of a coming European conflagration.

I am, however, a realist. We cannot pretend that we will close our eyes and plug our ears and hope this will all go away, because it will not.

Vote von Ritter! Vote for a chance to determine our fate instead of having the Old World determine it for us!

My friends, once upon a time there was a boy and and he was called America. When he'd been young the boy had wanted no friends at all and didn't have any. He was particularly mean to another boy, called Britain, who was bigger than him. After a while America decided he wanted friends after all, and Britain forgave him. America grew bigger than Britain, but they still remained friends. Then, one day America turned to his friend of many years and said "I'm going to stop talking to other people. I'm perfect and you're not so there is no point. I don't want any friends anymore". So they were no longer friends.

There were also another three boys who lived in that neighbourhood. They were three next biggest after America and Britain, and their names were Germany, Austria and Russia. They were bullies and they used to fight each other, but now they older and more jealous of America and Britain, so they decided to gang up on them. They were still scared of America, but they weren't so scared of Britain. So the three bullies beat up Britain, and while they were doing this America walked by. Britain shouted for his old friend, begging him to come to the rescue, but America just put his fingers in his ears and shouted he didn't care about other people. America carried on to tjhe state court. He walked inside and shouted "I want to change my name to Henry J. Jarvis!"

I'm going to be doing some reorganizing of the first post, mostly creating posts that will act as subsections so that Post 1 will only have the basic info, updates, primaries and links to the subsections.

Then I'll get to work on a proper Character-Participant List. All help is appreciated after I post V1, most preferably in the form of links to character bios that I've missed.

A clever, but severely misguided remark, Mr. Brass. First of all, neither Mr. Hendale and I oppose friendship with other nations, including Britain, nor are we inclined to stop talking to the leaders of other nations. Indeed almost every omment I've made on the matter echoes Presidents Washington and Jefferson; friendship and trade with all nations, entangling alliances with none.

And I fail see to how how my desire not to invade another nation simply because I don't like it, which seems to be the modus operandi of presidents past, is at all isolationist, unfriendly, or in any way dangerous to our foreign policy; personally I view going to war after war, and becoming an empire is far more dangerous.

Your fears that Britain will be all alone are also misplaced. France, Italy, the Ottomans, Spain, and other, smaller, states are all aligned against the Triple Alliance, so what you're saying is a bit disingenuous.

And welcome Captain Kildwell!

Secretary von Ritter, i would like to say one thing; wars have happened for thousands of years, most without our involvement, and they drew to a close, so I feel that we can avoid one more, especially one as violent and bloody as the one to come.

I will also not 'close my eyes and plug my ears' but instead work actively to bring the war to its end through solely diplomatic means; if all of a sudden we became the great kingmaker of the world, the moment we would falter is the moment we'd be set upon by all the powers of the world, and if we should align to one side now, we may forever alienate the other side (and having Germany, Austria, and Russia as enemies for decades is not something I wish to see).

As well, you have been very... discreet or opposed to say which European nation you'd wish to ally with, something that could drastically change the balance of power in Europe. Would you please give us a definitive answer?

Governor --

Indeed, the wars of the past have come and gone without American involvement. The wars of the past did not, however, include machine guns, automobiles, and other engines of death. Could you imagine wedding the power of an artillery cannon to a car? Such a device would radically change warfare, possibly forever.

Still, your question is fair, and I believe I should make my official policy known. I would support an alliance with the Tripartite Pact, and here is why. Russia, Germany, Austria, and the United States would be such an unstoppable coalition that the French and British would be fools to declare war upon us. The other members of the Tripartite Pact would be restrained by us, and we would make it clear the pact is a defensive alliance only. We could even use our good offices to, perhaps, change the governments of Russia and Austria, maybe even Germany.

I believe in, as a former countryman of mine once said, Realpolitik. Basing our alliances entirely upon ideologies is foolhardy. We must choose the most practical alternative.

However, it seems that the Triple Alliance has been the aggressor in many cases, or at least is heading in that direction. What we would do, if we followed your lead, is ruin our relations with Britain, completely destroy the Commonwealth (not end it peacefully under me, or reform it under Hensdale), and possibly, probably, bring Europe closer to war.

I would also like to see the Triple Alliances change their governments, however, they formed to prevent that, and I doubt if we tried, even peacefully, to change them they would react negatively, further weakening our tenuous relations in Europe. As well, it would engender a distaste for our, in their view, wanton influencing of their governments, and popular views of the American Empire would change radically to the negative. Picture if Britain was trying to influence our government to change to a constitutional monarchy; the American people would be up in arms in furor over such a suggestion, and the Congress would immediately shut down the idea. And our relations would be annihilated.

On the matter you talked about first, those weapons are indeed fearsome, and I believe we should both invest in technologies to improve ours, and destroy others in times of war. That great and dark wedding you speak of may soon be upon us, since Davis Motors and my own Jarvis Automobiles are both likely working on such technologies and innovations. However, I believe that despite those changes, war itself will remain largely the same; power grabs, alliances of necessity, wars of empire and colonization, and other such reasons.

Jerry Nightmore
Born 1875
Political activist and journalist from Nevada
Son of Jimmy Nightmore. Something of a black sheep in the family. Have serious alcoholism issues and knows the inside of a holding cell very well. Moved to Reno, Nevada to escape from the Nightmore family's watchful eyes, and was quickly tricked to enlist in the US army. Fought in Peru, where he got a taste for invasion and a sense of an American Superiority over all other people. Got involved in the Democratic Party in Nevada after his honorable discharge, but was quickly thrown out due to his "different views". Was something of an unemployed bum until he was hired by the New American newspaper, a political paper where views similar to his was expressed. He soon became known all over the US for his editorials. He moved to Washington D.C when the paper relocated to the capital.
