The Fair Pay Act has most commendable basic intentions. It is true that the employer-employee wage gap should not become too wide, however, the Fair Pay Act is far too draconian a measure.
I could maybe support the 1st article, if the maximum ratio were much, much larger than 2 to 3. In fact, how about instead of imposing arbitrary ratios of pay, we create a minimum wage. It is much better for everyone to know that one must be paid a reasonable wage than it is to know that one's employer is almost equally miserable.
The other two force government on business in a way that is absolutely unacceptable. Sections Two and Three propose not government intervention, but essentially government takeover of the affected businesses. American interventionism is based on working in the best interests of society and business as far as possible. Sections Two and Three are in the best interests of neither.
Therefore, should the Fair Pay Act ever reach the Resolute Desk while I am president, I will veto it.
((To clarify, I am not striking the bill down, Harrison is expressing his view on it)).
