[coz: No, it's not easy... but then again, I'm doing this for the challenge, really.
legion: That I will.
labalag: Heh, you should be doing a poetry AAR as well! :)
Draco: Sometime around the twelfth of never... they really get on my nerves during this game. ]

1429

Edinburgh cannot stand to English arms,
Beauchamp greatly the Scottish cause harms;
But Dublin falls at around the same time,
And so we cannot bring the Scots to terms.*

1430

Talbot sails across the Irish Sea
And makes the Scottish army flee
From Dublin, which he retakes,
And fills young Henry with glee.

France takes Maine from Provence,
After knocking down many a fence.**
Peace comes, with money paid,
Though it adds up to precious few pence.

1431-1435

Remember, Talbot in Ireland is now,
And to take all that isle he wonders how.
In March, at Ulster does he strike,
And hits the Irish a very hard blow!

Though Ulster took 'till November to fall,
After that, Talbot could Ireland his call:
No fort remained to stand against him,
Of men, or pike, or bow, or wall!

A flash of light goes in the sky:
Oh, a comet there does fly!
That harbinger of doom and war,
Perhaps now some great man shall die?

Oh, Bedford, regent, man so great,
Who on the Seine did France's black king mate,***
Does take to bed, and in thirty-five,
Fords**** over to Heaven, as is man's fate.
__________
*Couldn't think of a real rhyme here, so I had to cheat a bit.
**Wall.
***Reference to an obscure battle in 1420, in real life.
****bed + ford = Horrible attempt at a pun.

Yes great. I noticed you did a few years at once tisk tisk. :D Losing your steam perhaps. I suggest you start to do three year clips or something. If you intend on doing all 400 year one by one I will have to start calling this epic potery. Good luck.

"bed + ford = Horrible attempt at a pun."

You have no shame. :D :D All right I happen to like puns and that one is pretty good. :)

[legion: I'll go at whatever pace I can go.
Storey & Zeno: You don't realize what you're asking... I'll spare you the worst of my punning abilities...

Note that I'm skipping 1435-1441. Absolutely nothing happened during those years. Which was good, because I was running at dangerously low stability.]

1442-1447

In France, Bourbonnais and Auvergne
Cannot to live in peace ever learn.
They fight to take each others land,
And at each other's throats they turn.

Thus, Charles of France ends this fight
By claiming all their lands as his own, by right.
And since he claims them as his,
England will do that as well--what a sight!

First Auvergne gives Cévennes to France,
Then by the points of Bourbonnais' lance
They lose the rest of their lands as well.
My, for them a quite disastrous dance!

And now is England's vassal annexed,
Brittany, so long either ignored or vexed.
Thus strengthening Henry's lands in France.
But for Charles, Bourbonnais is next.

This time England is more prepared
And not very well the Bourbons fared.
Limousin to England and Auvergne to France.
But after some money, well, who cared?

For then was Bourbon an alliance in:
With bribes the English did them win;
And they bended their knees to the young king.
Good, for their killing would have been a sin.

1449

Ah, the golden harp has lost its strings;
No longer the green-grown isle sings;
For it is annexed by England grand,
And what do we care for such petty things?

1454-1457

Now it is time our revenge to take
Against those who the most trouble make:
The Scots, those who stood against us the most.
If we cannot conquer them, we'll make them a lake!

No Wallace now to slow us down!
No Bruce, no man of that reknown!
Lothian, Strathclyde, Highlands, all
Added to Henry's new Scottish crown!

The Stuart to us bends his knee,
He remains in Scotia for all to see:
"Behold the lord of mountain crags!
Of sheep, and men who love to flee!"

But what hear I of roses, white and red?
Do men say that England is poorly led?
Is civil war in our future now?
Has England's doom here been said?

That was pretty low. :)

England with it's might will fail
behind mugs of Irish ale!

Thanks, but no thanks, I wouldn't be original then...
But good luck with your AAR, you remind me that I have to update my AAR...

Farquharson: "Free-man stand or free-man fall",* eh? Well, fall it is, then. :D
Zeno: Eh, the Irish were always too drunk to revolt. ;)
labalag: I'm not being original either, I got the idea from an old Timurid AAR.
legion: I thought I was terrible at poetry a few days ago.
Kamelen: It seems you are a poet/and I did not know it. :D

Unfortunately, no update today. I've got a baseball game to go to. As much as I'd like to write more...

I agree, great AAR so far...

Now in game terms, let me see if I'm right. Scotland, Eire and Brittany are fully annexed in to Britain  , and you've got a portion of the French mainland, right?

[Zeno: I'm referring to the game. As you said, in real life, it's "are".
Zenek: Thank you.
Draco: Brittany and Eire were annexed. Scotland, France, and Bourbonnais are vassals, to be annexed ASAP (or in the case of France, once they get some of the Burgundian lands).]

The Kingdoms of England, Scotland, Ireland, and France

1458-1460

York and Lancaster each other oppose,
though neither side smells good as a rose.
Henry works to stop this foul rebellion,
And Edward seeks his kingship to close.

Not in England but in France it starts,
Edward rushing in with his swords and darts.*
Henry gives him a quick knock on the head,
And the Yorkists go home--"Zounds, that smarts!"

For a while a watched peace remains,
Henry celebrates, and Edward pains.
Neither of them ready to fight this war,
Until a plague Henry's reputation stains.

1461

Death, because so little blood was spilled,
Needed, through disease, many people killed.
Henry ignores this little matter here,
But Edward the next event willed.

The banner of rebellion is raised once more,
And begun again is the Roses' War.
He marches on London, and Henry flees,
And Edward's crown no blood does store.

1464

Henry plans to return to the throne,
And to this purpose raises money and loan.
To Cornwall he sails, with his men prepared
To die for him, and for him alone.

Edward sends Somerset, his general best,
To deal with Henry, that red-rosed pest.
Though gravely wounded Somerset is,
Henry and his men flee to Ireland west.

In Connacht next his banner flies,
And any man wearing the white rose dies.
General Broom** marches on his army,
And off the isle sweeps those red flies.

1470-1

For six years now he quiet stays,
For many a man of his army lays
A corpse upon some English field,
Rotting under the white sun's rays.

But Edward cannot stay king forever,
Nor can he seem to hold things together.
Many of the nobles he alienates greatly,
And Henry returns to make things better.

But aged he is, and not long reigns,
His spirit no longer in the world remains.
Edward returns, for lack of anyone better,
Though the nobles this decision pains.***
