So I tried the demo like lots of people tonight. I'm posting here because this thread is not focused on the demo but on the political actions playing the US.
I focused mainly on one thing : having the Conservative political movements winning those first 15 years to keep the US united and to not have the war as Paradox told us several times this war is possible to avoid.
In the XIXth century like today, the USA were divided between Conservatives and Liberals (not the European meaning of the word), and the "classical" way of playing it as I saw it in the different AARs was to have the war between the South and the North happen, mostly in the late 1840's, so it meant I could see the consequences of my actions before the end of the demo.
I tried very hard to have the conservatives to win politically those first years. I was "partially" able to do it, as I am now in 1847, militancy and counsciousness in the South are very low, but of course I won't be able to see if this game would have indeed protected the US from the war until 1866.
However I went to realize something else (that I found pretty logical but still interesting to talk about). Now the south and the midwest (and the far west) are really peacefull, but the "yankees" parts of the countries are... well ... that way :
(We don't perfectly see it, but for all those "troops", all of them are rebels. The exceptions are in western Ohio (Dayton) where there is a fight and in the Southern States : in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia the troops are Union troops.)
For almost all those rebels, those guys are "Jacobins". This is pretty logical historically as the Jacobins (socialists during the French Revolution) usually they were the guys willing to take some weapons and willing to kill people who did not wanted to vote for their laws. However this still surprised me as I didn't knew you guys used this word "jacobin", I thought it was only a french name. I learnt at least one interesting language thing with this demo
The thing is I know I totally screwed this game seeing those revolts (or at least my goals to have neither the North nor the South seekingindepedance/being in open revolt). I realized that I have to go through at least the "advanced" tutorials even when I play paradox games for years because for the first time in "Victoria" I got crushed by mexico playing the US !!! Even when I was learning how to play Vicky 1 I did not lived something like that ! A real shame
But sorry my point is this game seems very much more hard than I thought with the beta AARs (and that's a good thing !). So it's clear I failed to keep "peace" inside of the US during those fifteen first years.
So did anyone succeeded at keeping the US at peace, without a socialist/jacobin revolt in the North or an independance in the South ? Is there people thinking it is possible ?
