The UK guaranteed my independence *once*--about two months before Russia declared war the first time, so I lucked out then. Sadly, they haven't done it since.

And yeah, I've never seen UberPersia before either, but suddenly I have a military power capable of humbling Russia right on my border. Boy am I glad I never took those Ottoman provinces now!!

Actually, they already have a border with the UK--look at the pic on the previous page. But at the moment, their military score is about 85 or 90, so the badboy they got from Russia is really irrelevent. :(

I'd like to see how Egypt does in this one!
Yeah, thanks a lot. ;)

Persia and Russia both have military strengths nearing or over 100. France, thanks to the Russians consistently sinking their unescorted steamer transports in the previous war, has a military strength of around 65. S-P has been eaten alive by Austria and didn't even have the military to prevent itself from going communist, and I have a military strength of approximately 25 :eek:o

So, yeah, this'll be fun.

Oh but your men have SPIRIT! I saw S-P go commie once in one of my games. It was the notorious Swiss one. I took the rest of their land, so their capitol was all they had! :D

Now this is the kinda AAR I'm talkin about, none of that fanfic rubbish, a good strong game-report, well written and entertaining, no 'One dark and windy day the king of somewhere old and long ago was walking around in his grand hall blah blah blah' nonesense!

:eek:o er... rant over. Great Stuff memnon, brilliant AAR of what seems a well-played game, and I for one am looking forward to the next lot. ;)

Chapter Five
1877-1886

When I left you, Egypt was at war with Prussia, Russia, and Persia simultaneously. The people were revolting all across the empire, and valuable troops were distracted by rebels and unavailable at the front where they were truly necessary. Things didn’t look too good for the caliphate.

In the Northeast, the valiant troops held their ground against overwhelming odds from both sides:

holding_my_ground2.jpg

Fortunately for Egypt, the Greeks could be counted on to be Russia’s Achilles heel, and just as in the last war, a French occupation of Athens yielded enough of a positive warscore for Russia to make me an offer I couldn’t refuse:

"February 5, 1878 : Egypt accepted peace with Russia on the following terms : Georgievsk to Egypt, Akhaltsike to Egypt, Gori to Egypt, Grozny to Egypt, Vladikavkaz to Egypt, Tblisi to Egypt"

The first thing I did was release Georgia in the hopes of eventually establishing some sort of buffer state between me and the Bear:

I also turned over to them the provinces I had gotten from Russia that wouldn’t be part of Georgia originally. I had no desire for land on the other side of a buffer state.

Now, the wonderful French turned their sights on Persia, making an amphibious landing from the Persian Gulf.

The French do their work:

french_in_persia.jpg

I, too, made an attempt at an invasion of northern Persia, but the mountainous terrain blocked my way, and after quite a bit of bloodshed, I was only able to make a white peace. Still, from what had begun as a very foreboding circumstance, I emerged not only unscaved, but more powerful.

During the war, I had continued to sell claims to the British in exchange for land. It was difficult negotiations, and I often had to try different combinations of claims and different combinations of land in order to get a good deal, but I had to get the British out of North Africa. If I was to have any hope of conquering what I needed to conquer, I couldn’t risk a badboy war with the Brits.

Africa in 1880, at the tail end of the war

The Northeast in 1880, including the new state of Georgia:

Meanwhile, thanks to prolonged war exhaustion and internal dissolution, Sardinia Piedmont had gone communist:

sp_commie.jpg

Two years after our peace had been concluded, Persia, still chomping at the bit, declared war on the crumbling Ottoman Empire:

persia_war_oe.jpg

These next few years were ones of peace for Egypt. I built up massive amounts of industries, bringing me to within reach of the United Kingdom. Thanks to much colonization and patience, though I had grown large, I still had little enough badboy that the UK was willing to be my partner in peace:

uk_alliance.jpg

At last, things had stabilized for Egypt. Not to be left in the lurch again, I built up a very large standing army, one that was now equal, I hoped, to the task of defeating both Persia and Russia if need be. When the game turned 50, Egypt had much to boast over. In the following picture, you can also seen the Persian-occupied Ottoman territory. Note that this is only occupied, not owned, land.

All the lands of Egypt, January 1, 1886, after 50 years of expansion:

But the path for Egypt was still wrought with blood. The next decade would go down in history under a name fitting for its events—“The Great Rage”.

Stay tuned for the next installment of The Pharaoh and the Prophet.
