CHAPTER 13

In the great central courtyard of the residence in Multan, Hilal and Ambar were fighting, it was a form of training, Hilal had officiated as her son's tutor, but that was about to end. Ambar was already an adult, he had learned a lot during his education. The combat was with arab swords, both showed great skill in handling , Hilal for his experience and Ambar for his strength, the boy had a lot of vitality. At the end of the fight, Ambar defeated his father, Hilal was still a great warrior, but his forces were no longer the same. After training Hilal stopped being his son's tutor.

Imagen 0.png

Since Ambar was now an adult he must have a wife. Hilal and Hafsa had long been evaluating various candidates for their son. Hafsa thought that the best was a wife whose bond would ensure an alliance for the hilalids, on the other hand, Hilal thought that the best was a wife who was a good complement to Ambar. In the end, Hilal's opinion prevailed, the chosen candidate was Khadra daughter of Nehi, the thakur of Aror. They did not hesitate to accept the betrothal.

Imagen 1.png

Ambar was a good military man, but he had also developed a certain impatience and insensitivity in his personality. Khadra, on the other hand, was a calm, humble, and gregarious girl. Both could reach complemented well, that's what Hilal and Hafsa had achieved and that is why their marriage was a success, which had a positive impact on the government.

Imagen 2.png

Ambar and Khadra.

After the war against the gujars, Hilal began to attend more to the administrative affairs of his kingdom, a stewardship lifestyle. This opened the doors to a world that he did not know, he began to do trade, that allowed him to improve his treasure, which was beginning to rebuild after the last war. After a trade with an important merchant a large quantity of the highest quality cattle were brought to Multan where their hides were sold to various Indian merchants for a large sum of money.

Imagen 3 opción 3.png

His new stewardship-oriented lifestyle brought him more in touch with local cultures. Over the years, gradually Hilal had been acquiring more and more elements of local culture and traditions, that african warrior with modest clothing was part of the past. Even Umar habbarid himself had been seduced by the allure of comfort after a hard life spent in war. Hafsa recommended several new clothes according to local fashion and according to the status that Hilal had.

Imagen 4.png

Many were surprised by this change in appearance and followed his example, others criticized him for being corrupted by the easy life. A gift for Hilal came to Multan from Sufyah, there was no attached message, that was something curious. Hafsa said it was because Sufyah was happy to accept the change in appearance, this was possibly a ruse so that her husband would not be discouraged by the negative reviews.

Imagen 5.png

A gift from Sufyah, it was never known why he sent it.

Who was also growing rapidly was Zahir, Hilal supervised his education which was also oriented towards martial aspects. One day a strange episode occurred when Kahah, the son of mufti Salah, threw Zahir to the floor and trampled him. Hilal scolded his son, he did not have to be trampled on by anyone or in any way.

Imagen 6 opción 2.png

A wrathful personality was born in Zahir.

As for Karima, she sometimes behaved like a little girl even though she was reaching her maturity. Her father wanted her to focus more on her studies since she had a somewhat changeable mind. It was not easy at all to make her obey, this generated a lot of stress for Hilal.

Imagen 7 opción 3.png

Karima's upbringing was not easy for Hilal, she got on better with her mother.

Governing and educating his children was exhausting, and Hilal was getting older and older. He more than once thought about whether he made the right decision by agreeing to rule that time that Umar offered him the thikana of Karor. Thinking about what his present would have been if he had made other decisions sometimes discouraged and stressed him. To rest his mind, he used to go horseback riding.

Imagen 8 opción 2.png

Zahir in particular was quite restless. On one occasion when Ibrahim, the spymaster, had arrived in Multan on urgent affair, Zahir attempted to steal his travel chest, claiming that he was curious to know what was inside it. Hilal reprimanded him to understand that this was wrong, it should not be stolen.

Imagen 9 opción 3.png

Ibrahim's reason for going to Multan was very serious, the rumors that someone wanted to kill Hilal were increasingly certain. The wife of one of the highlights guards of Hilal reported that some hooded men had broken into her home and proposed to her husband to murder Hilal, the honorable guard refused and right there he was murdered, then the mens left in the shelter of the night.

CHAPTER 14

When Karima reached adulthood it meant that Hilal's tutelage came to an end. Although she showed certain difficulties in concentrating on her studies, over the years she improved and managed to demonstrate a deep understanding about administrative matters.

Imagen 0.png

Hilal, meanwhile, had to deal with the disputes of his vassals. Salah and Ghobad had different opinions on the most basic things. Hilal sometimes heard them arguing deep in his mind. To avoid further stress he preferred not to opt for any, the best thing was to make them see reason according to his own opinion.

Imagen 1.png

What was stressing Hilal was the education of his youngest son, Zahir. The boy was reaching maturity and needed some guidance to interact interpersonally with other people, especially girls. Hilal more than once showed him the example of how to do it so that his son does not seem a fool. Beyond this, Hilal appreciated Zahir, he was the younguest, pampered by all.

Imagen 2 opción 3.png

Sometime later news came from the south, thakur Akbar kalatid started a war against Sufyah claiming the throne in Debul for his nephew Muhammad, the son of his sister Beyan and Nizam habbarid. According to the stories, during the habbarid-doolanid war Nizam left his young son with the afghans of his brother-in-law as he believed Debul was not a safe place. Nizam was killed in combat against Ahmad doolanid and Beyan was killed during the siege of Debul. Little Muhammad grew up among the afghans and now claimed the throne against his uncle Sufyah. Akbar also called his ally Feraz panjhirid, vassal of the samanids of Transoxiana, who had just accumulated great power after conquering what was left of the kingdom of Kallar, the ancient lord of the Kabul valley.

Imagen 3.png

Muhammad habbarid had the support of the afghans Akbar and Feraz.

Hilal waited in Multan for further news, and it soon arrived. Muhammad's claims were frustrated after the battle of Sibi, there he and Akbar faced Sufyah's army commanded by Sabar Notanid. In Sibi the rebels were crushed, they made the mistake of not waiting for Feraz panjhirid's reinforcements, they were too impatient.

Imagen 4.png

Muhammad was captured and sent in chains to Debul, there he was executed by Sufyah and the rebellion ended. But this was not a complete victory, Umar, the son of Sufyah, died in the battle of Sibi. Probably this was the reason why Sufyah executed his nephew without delay. Fortunately for Sufyah Umar was not his only male son.

Imagen 5.png

Muhammad and Umar, two major losses for the habbarids.

In those days Zahir reached adulthood. The time dedicated by Hilal was not enough to make the boy become a great warrior, but at least he managed to learn the basics. In any case, there is a great truth, the experience is the main source of knowledge.

Imagen 6.png

One day, while Hilal was clearing his mind while walking in a grove near Multan, a group of bandits attacked him. Fortunately he was with guards, they helped him repel the attack. The attackers were very skilled, as if they were experienced warriors, it was not easy to finish them all. The problem is that they were not bandits, they were murderers. And they were hired murderers, one of them carried a small bag with coins inside, those coins had the face of Jatan Gujar.

Imagen 7.png

After many rumors, Hilal already knew who wanted to kill him.

Hilal did not hesitate, he gathered his army and marched to war against the gujars.

Imagen 8.png

The previous war was difficult, but it ended in victory, although it is true that it was a victory with the help of Sufyah. Hilal decided to trust himself and the surprise factor in his attack.

Imagen 9.png

After the assassination attempt, Hilal and Jatan became rivals.

The hilalid army advanced unopposed through the gujar lands until they reached Lahur, the capital city. If Jatan was in the city he would be captured when the city fell, if he had fled he would have to return to defend the capital or the humiliation would be enormous. It turns out that Jatan was not there nor did he return to defend Lahur, but he did send his brother Kumar with an army.

Imagen 10.png

Initial disposition of the battle.

This time the gujars were not up to the task, the hilalid cavalry charge was forceful, the new archers trained in Multan kill out dozens of enemies, but Juan's greatest pride was seeing his two sons, Ambar and Zahir, fighting alongside him.

Imagen 11.png

After the victory, they resumed the siege of Lahur, but a new enemy army was approaching.

When and how did Hilal change from Somali to Punjabi? How is the heir looking? Be safe, my Raj.
In the previous chapter, he and his family were converted as were almost all of his vassals!

Jatan has been defeated. His assassination attempt was foolish!

Also, the Habbarids aren't doing well, are they?
Yes, the habbarids are having problems, the entire Indus basin is in turmoil.

You shall show them that no matter what their statues an attempt on your life will not be tolerated!
Hopefully so my friend!

CHAPTER 15

When the city of Lahur was about to fall a new gujar army arrived. It was a larger army than the previous one, in fact, the gujars were not alone, Jatan called his ally Vachhal Tomara to assist him in this war, he was the one who led this new army.

Imagen 0.png

Initial disposition of the second battle of Lahur.

Again outnumbered, the Indians did not have horses, but they did have many archers, and what happened next would create a great commotion. The battle began with the classic exchange of projectiles, then infantry combat, here the hilalids had a wide advantage since it was an army of veterans hardened in hundreds of battles. Then the cavalry charged and overwhelmed both enemy flanks, Hilal and Zahir fighting on the right flank and Ambar on the left flank. The victory was approaching served on a fine silver tray.
But the victory would not come. Zahir rode too far forward on his horse and was suddenly surrounded by enemies. The damapati and spymaster Ibrahim ran to help him because he was the one who was closest. The dust and the heat of battle prevented Hilal from seeing clearly. Then, the heads of Zahir and Ibrahim were raised on two pikes, the gujar warriors shouted all kinds of insults and obscene jokes against Hilal, he fell from his horse and had to be removed from combat.

Imagen 1.png

Zahir was dead and his father couldn't stop blaming himself.

Zahir's death and Hilal's consequent state of shock encouraged the gujars to retake the initiative. Ambar was the one who ordered the withdrawal. Later it would be known that Karnpal Tomara was the one who killed Zahir and Ibrahim.

Imagen 2.png

The second battle of Lahur was a total disaster. Every step that the hilalid army took in retreat was a step that the gujars and their allies took to counterattack.

Imagen 3.png

Salah Bahambhanid, the court mufti, was captured and had to pay his own ransom.

Imagen 4.png

Ambar took her father to Multan, there Hafsa learned of Zahir's death, the family began to mourn the loss while the enemies advanced unopposed. Sanghar, one of Hilal's shoorvers, tried to ambush the enemy in the city of Tulamba.

Imagen 5.png

But the chances of victory were minimal, the hilalid warriors were very good, but they did not work miracles.

Imagen 6.png

After sacking Tulamba, Jatan arrived in Multan and demanded the surrender of the city as well as a large payment to remedy the situation. Hilal agreed to the demands and surrendered, but he did not open the city gates, he simply gave the money to the gujars and they left, they were not willing to initiate the siege of Multan, the city had very good defenses. The payment to Jatan left the coffers empty again, again bankrupt. Hilal turned to Salah for help in exchange for a future favor, the situation was still very worrying.

Imagen 7 opción 2.png

Salah helped Hilal with money.

For months Hilal mourned the death of Zahir and was confined in his residence drowning in memories, it was a serious mistake to allow the boy to participate in the war. One day a delegation from Vachhal Tomara arrived in Multan, they came on good terms sending the greetings of the raja. Thakur Ahmad, the court's chancellor, was doing a good job improving relations after the war.

Imagen 8.png

Vachhal sent his condolences for the death of Zahir, they were sincere condolences, he had also lost a son during the second battle of Lahur, his first-born also called Vachhal, the young man had died by the sword of Jabir, a Hilal's vassal.

Imagen 9.png

Thakur Ahmad was a good chancellor, a worthy successor to his father Hasan. He had a somewhat fickly personality, so his opinion of Hilal was ambiguous, but he was a gray eminence. Karima was already married to him by then and they resided in the city of Bhera.

Imagen 10.png

CHAPTER 16

Joy filled Hilal's heart when Ambar came running with good news: his wife Khadra had given birth to a healthy child, his name was Fateh. Hilal hugged his son and thanked him, that little new member of the family was a blessing from Allah and a demonstration that they still had his support.

Imagen 0.png

Fateh, the son of Ambar and Khadra.

At that time Sufyah was dealing a new rebellion of the kalatids, this time Akbar claimed to be fighting against Sufyah's tyranny after he ordered a great colonization of sindhi people on Akbar's land, which displaced the native afghan population.

Imagen 1.png

Unlike the previous rebellion, the afghans were gathering more and more war experience. This time they went further, sacking Debul and taking Sufyah's male children captive. This was really incredible since the habbarids had a bigger army, but the kalatids were elusive and very efficient at besieging cities. Sufyah had to pay ransom for each of his male children, Abdul, his direct heir, was the one who spent the longest time in prison.

Imagen 2.png

Abdul, the second son of Sufyah, imprisoned by Akbar.

The habbarid state was not having a good time, Sufyah could not keep up the glory of his father Umar. The balochis had gained independence and were later subdued by the saffarid, the kalatid afghans craved their independence as did their ghurid and panjhirid neighbors, to the north the hilalids had just lost a war against the gujars. The only ones who gave some support to Sufyah were the notanids, the marriage between Abdul and a notanid girl gave solidity to the alliance.

The habbarid state in AD 290 after the Prophet's Hijra.

For his part, Hilal was dedicating more and more time to his family, dedicating quality time to his wife Hafsa, sending letters to Bhera where his daughter Karima, advising his son Ambar on military matters and playing with Fateh, his grandson.
Certainly now he felt disinterest in realm affairs. The discussions of his council lately were conflictive, Jabir and Ahmad had different opinions on certain matters, Jabir was in favor of persecuting the hindus of the kingdom and Ahmad believed that persecuting them would generate conflict with the neighboring rulers. Hilal tried to make everyone happy with a compromise.

After Zahir's death, Hilal began to care more for his loved ones and for himself, trying to avoid conflict and stress. By then he was an older man, taking care of his mental and physical health encouraged him to run, sometimes on horseback and other times on foot.

One warm summer afternoon Hilal came out to clear her mind and meditate. Many questions ran through his mind about his ruling, his faith in Allah, his loyalty to his liege or his role as husband and father. He thought of the lights and leftovers of him as a person. Many errors can be attributed to him, but also many virtues. During his youth he reaped much glory, but during his maturity he had to face serious difficulties. Many people helped him and many people he helped. Mubarak, Nur, Samir, Umar, Dalu Rai, Zahak are just a few names that crossed his mind in his periplus. His son Ambar would inherit the glory he forged, but also the responsibility to care for this.
The sunlight was running out, Hilal was tired, he entered his room and went to sleep, he would never wake up again. The sunset came to the foothills of Haregesia, but after each sunset there is always a new dawn.

Ok guys, our hero has died, died of old age.

Writing this AAR I have privileged the story, that is to say what I am narrating, and not the correct thing for the gameplay, but as I have said before it is a pleasure to know that this work is being received positively.

The title of this AAR was centered on Hilal, but now I have the question of what to do, the hilalids still exist after Hilal!
