World Interlude 921

Rhys had found the maps at last sure it took him many hours to find them buried in the bowels of the archives but these were important maps for they were they showed the world after the death of King Uther the longest reigning Pendragon. Rhys pricked up his ears, was it him or could he hear horse hoofs down the corridor? Moments later the King cantered in the room in a dramatic fashion, or at least that had what the king envisioned for the moment the horse saw Rhys it bucked and threw the King across the room, sending him into slamming into the wall knocking him out.

Rhys sighed went into a side room and came out with a bucket of ice cold water and poured it over the kings head, The king yelled and stood up water dripping from him, “My lord what brings you to my chambers” Rhys spoke clearly exasperated by the King’s stupidity. “I wish to know how you are coming along with the chronicle replied the king”. “I have just finished finding maps for the year of 921 would you care to examine them”? “Very well dwarf lead on” the king replied, Rhys sighed and lead the king over to the table where the maps lay they leaned over and examined them.

5OUvXWv.png

As you can see my lord the isles are more a mess then the Matrix sequels “What said the King” “Nothing replied Rhys, the welsh have taken over the emerald isle, reputably they won the wars by terrifying the Irish with their close harmony singing”. The ruler of Jorvik have been severally weakened while the lord of the isles have taken most of northern England and parts of Scotland, on that subject the mad rowdy violent Scots have been taken down a notch now only holding parts of the duchy of moray and the duchy of Albany, and the duchy of Galloway has been independent for some time.

Q4RWVBs.png

Moving onto Scandinavia, Norway may look strong but the lands have been split between the sons of fairhair, civil war seems on the horizon for them. Sweden is small and in civil war with one of its vassals, and a sizable chunk of Finland has been taken over by one of the lords of the Rus. The kingdom of Denmark has also been formed.

dFj4TfG.png

Here is a map of central Europe or at least what I could get, [1] The Karlings are very powerful holding onto multiple kingdoms, the lords of Spain are struggling against the Muslims on the Iberian peninsula and are unable to oust them with their flamenco dances and music.

gkmSFAB.png

The Byzantines are in a period of civil war, [2] but hold onto much land including some holdings in Outremer, Bulgaria is still a kingdom and also at war with one vassals. Other petty kingdoms are still going and parts of Outremer are under control of powerful Muslim lords.

“Very good Rhys you have done well said the king”, now I must leave the room to dramatic sound, and with that he left and a gong was heard, Rhys spun round and saw a man standing next to a gong and headed towards him. The man screamed and legged it as Rhys chased him out with his mace screaming curses all the while.

[1] sorry for the awful cropping :)

[2] that civil war has been at 100% in favor of the Byzantines empress for some time.

The next chapter will be out tomorrow.

The Reign Of King Arthur Pendragon 921 - 925

hC5G4Ds.png

King Arthur Pendragon

Lived 878 - 925

King of Wales 921 - 925

King of Ireland 921 - 925

Duke of Gwynedd 921 - 925

Duke of Powys 921 - 925

Duke of Munster 894 - 921

Arthur would come to the throne in his early 40's and had gained much experience of ruling over his years, a man skilled in the art of war but little else he would reign for only 4 years before he died of a head injury acquired in battle against the Danish.

dem1RQA.png

Arthur would continue his father's conquests and would attempt to fight against the lady of the isles Grima, in a holy war. The war would be in favor of the welsh for some time, before the allies of Grima the Danish landed on the shores of Wales and forced Arthur to take a large part of his force home to deal with the threat to the Welsh homelands. The Welsh army caught the Danes at the battle of Langollen, with the Danish forces being wiped out. But this victory was not without cost. For the king having led the left flank was found on the field. Accounts suggest that while rallying his troops he was struck by a blow from a Dane axe and rendered incapable.

Elis his son became regent and used his considerable diplomatic prowess to arrange for a white peace. Elis was able to keep his father's vassals in line and no revolts occurred during his regency but everyone knew it was a matter of time before Arthur would die, Elis was therefore determined to prevent civil war. He was able to persuade the Jewish people to return to Wales and Ireland using his diplomatic skills. Their trades and skills would help Wales in the years to come.

dX9QJf7.png

Arthur would die three years later from his injury, Elis would assume the crown at the age of 26, he would have many problems to deal with, from rebellious vassals to the possibility of full scale war on the British isles. Can one so young hold onto the lands of his father or will he be ruined by the intrigue of the dark ages?

Well that was short :) lets hope Ellis lasts longer, I have not started his reign yet, but expect the next chapter soon. Hope you guys are enjoying this so far.

So I played 12 years of Elis reign last night and may interesting things happened, I inadvertently created the merchant republic of lothian :) amongst other things. So I have a lot of images to work with. As such Elis reign will be split into multiple parts, I have not finished his reign yet. But I have enough images for the time being and need a break from CK2. Expect the first chapter of his reign soon.

The Reign Of King Elis Pendragon Part I

NuCDEP5.png

Lived 900 - 975

King of Wales 925 - 975

King of Ireland 925 - 975

King of Scotland 949 - 975

Duke of Gwynedd 925 - 975

Duke of Munster 925 - 959

When Elis took the throne of Wales in 925 after the abrupt death of his father, many would expect that civil war would overrun the nation. However his brute strength in both warfare and diplomacy would allow him to keep his vassals in line and make substantial gains in the British Isles.

p1P778D.png

Elis would go on a pilgrimage shortly after he ascended to the throne; he would travel to Rome and suffer through many hardships, but would consider it a good experience.

Elis was also a major supporter of converting Pagan savages to the true faith and was able to persuade the king of Norway to support the arrival of his court Chaplin Sion. He would be successful and turned a backwards nation into one that would become an important nation in later years.

KzaTmE8.png

In the early years of his reign Elis would turn his attention to fragmented Scotland. The land had been torn apart by wars over the years as Norse pagans and the Scottish kings vied for control of the nation, he would exploit the weakness of both parties and seize control of two counties in the duchy of Galloway by pressing claims and revoking titles. While this was controversial, Elis was determined to parcel out lands to loyal lords. The local populace of the duchy were also Welsh and by doing this Elis would both gain a foothold in Scotland and overthrow the Scottish foreigners in the duchy.

S5FMM7P.png

A threat would also rear its head in the form of an invasion by the king of Denmark Anundr, the King hired assassins and the threat was dealt with rather brutally by all accounts.

QDFMXm6.png

JsGNQQO.png

gv2BLtQ.png

nFYer2u.png

In the year of 930 Elis would begin another major military expedition a holy war for Lothian, this war would be won after several years of sieges and would gain the duchy of Lothian giving him another major foothold in Scotland. This war would also give the king experience in leading heavily armed infantry. The king would also found the Lothian merchant republic; this republic was the first in northern Europe and would set up many trade posts including one in Gwynedd which Elis would actively improve over his reign.

lRbuJ6W.png

Another important event occurred during this year, the kingdom of England had been created by the head of house Wessex Swaefraed, who was a fine manager of finances and an advocate of justice.

0z8U1C2.png

An Irish peasant Tomas rebelled against Elis a few years later, raising an army in Kildare he would siege the holding but the forces of the king would decisively defeat him at the battle of Kildare. He would surrender shortly afterwards and was beheaded.

So ends the first part of the chapter concerning King Elis...

Sorry for lack of updates over past few days don't get much time to either play or write. Sorry if this chapter is messy wordwise and short but I wanted to at lest show that this AAR was not dead. Next chapter will be up soon. Remember to criticize and comment.

Good going so far. Any reason you gave Lothian to a merchant?

How much I envy your good ruler's stats. Uther's lowest skill was a 10. So far, the best skill one of my rulers had in my AAR was a 10 (with lots of 3s and 4s all around)

The merchant republic was an accident, I gave the lands to one of my mayors back in Wales and the republic was formed. As for stats the power of genetics and tutoring under your parents should not be overstated. :)

The Reign Of King Elis Pendragon Part II

Elis would continue his warfare in Scotland at the diplomatic table, the countess of Strathearn Carrick and Teviotdale would accept his offer of vassalage, exploiting this trust Elis revoked two of her counties before she rebelled, her marriage to the king of west Francia was considered to be a major problem in putting down this rebellion but she did not call him into the war and it was won in less then a year and the county of Strathearn.

pYkKTF6.png

UFHsQ7U.png

In7kx3U.png

On the coming of age of his son Arthur, Elis arranged for a grand tournament to be held to show off the splendour of house Pendragon, Arthur himself would come third with Gerallt of Desmond coming second and Seisyll the marshal of Kildare winning the tournament.

With the vast improvements in both technology and land holdings, Elis created a horse retinue, consisting of 400 light cavalry and 100 heavy cavalry which were a rare sight on the isles during this period. He would also create another shock retinue. Elis retinue stands at 1200 archers 800 heavy infantry and 500 cavalry as of the year 936.

Y26ae1p.png

N7S1zl3.png

The chancellor Tudwal forged a claim of fife in 936, the war that followed was bloody and short for the Scottish lacked significant forces to beat the might of the Pendragons. Fife was taken and the king took procession of it as his seat in Scotland. Only one more county need to be taken to allow Elis to usurp the crown of Scotland and bring another kingdom under the Pendragon banner…

A quick chapter to put in the rest of the images taken in the last time I played, honestly I never expected this dynasty to accomplish so much in such a short span of time. :) expect the next chapter in a few days. Remember to comment and give constrictive criticism.

Of course they would accomplish a lot in a short time. They're Pendragons aren't they!

The Reign Of King Elis Pendragon Part III

Many years of peace would occur following the taking of Fife, it was a time for consolation and preparation for yet another war with the Scottish. Elis decided to support King Patrick while he was defending against a host claimant war.

The claimant himself hunkered down in one of the counties of Sweden forcing king Elis to gather his navy and deal with him in foreign lands. He was utterly destroyed in battle and the king would learn the importance of logistics and organisation.

Elis would suffer a personal blow, shortly after he returned home his strong willed mother had died peacefully leaving him the counties of Carcassonne and Toulouse.

His chancellor would give him the perfect opportunity for war with Scotland. A claim on Gowrie the capital had been fabricated. However the truce with Scotland was still in place preventing him from waging war.

In the year of 947 Elis would press his claim on Scotland’s capital, the Scots themselves were at war with the lord of the isles as they wished to bring him under the Scottish banner. Elis gathered 6000 men from his own holdings and his retinue and marched to Gowrie and lay siege to the capital. The Scots were still on the isles and Elis had no intention of crossing the straits to attack them despite the fact he vastly outnumber the Scottish. When the final holding in Gowrie was subjugated, the Scots moved back to the mainland and Elis moved to intercept catching them in the county of Buchan and virtually wiped out the Scottish forces at the battle of Ellon, his marshal Gerallt was cut down in the battle however. Elis careful maneuvers were also noted.

Following this the Scots sued for peace giving Elis the chance to usurp the kingdom and become yet another Pendragon to gain control of a powerful nation. Several lords accepted his offer to become his vassals, the duke of Moray refused as did the lord of Athol, which was the last refuge for Patrick the former king.

British Isles 949

What will the Pendragons do next I wonder? shall they begin the long process of claiming England and forming the empire of Britannia or shall they consolidate their already mighty power…

The Jews are a bit of a punching bag for the Pendragons aren't they?

Entertaining read, good to see the Welsh getting a strong upper hand on the Isles - I suspect that unless you receive a particularly large prepared invasion from the Norse or something goes horribly wrong dynastically then Britannia is only a matter of time!

Yeah the jew merchant loan is a bit gamy and I use it a lot, Should probably stop that. :) I hold 60% of Britannia at the moment I will take on England soon...

In HIP there are different levels of loan and you can borrow 100, 200, 500 or 800 gold (and/or a combination of the above) from the local moneylenders. The catch is you have to pay 10% interest, monthly, as well as when you repay it all.

The French King wound up owing his moneylenders 80 gold a month in interest payments, which was a wonderful lesson in why not to do that!

Enjoying matters so far, look forward to reading the next chapter.

he would exploit the weakness of both parties and seize control of two counties in the duchy of Galloway by pressing claims and revoking titles
I have a feeling Ellis is going to get an epithet along the lines of "the tyrant"........
And good AAR, no changes needed!

Most of his vassals have 100 + opinions of him actually :) and I wanted loyal welsh lords in Galloway since for some reason the counties in the duchy have welsh culture instead of Scottish culture (confused much) anyway thanks for the compliment.
