Briefing Room 1, BC Washington - 30/6-2073
"So, What news from Gliese 105?" Admiral Boris ze Spider II calmly looked at Commander Birch, his Operations Officer, while the rest of his Staff quietly took their places for the briefing.
"Actually Sir, Not a damn thing!" Commander Birch looked back at the Admiral with tired eyes. She had been up since 4 AM working on refining the data dump from Francis Bacon whom just arrived back in Sol.
Boris raised an eyebrow at that report, but besides that waited for Birch to gather her thoughts.
"During the run from the JP to the 6th planet and back, Francis Bacon spotted a total of 3 ships. 1 Hugin and 2 Gålö's. The planet itself had Ground Forces, but estimate only a Garrison. No defences was detected. The Thermal and EM signatures indicates a population well below that of Chiron! Sir, I hate to say this, but I don't think that this is their home planet."
Boris nodded thoughtfully at the message and turned to look at his Intelligence Officer. "Becky?" he invited.
Captain Rebecca Nixon looked thoughtfull before answering. "Sir, If the information is accurate, I have to agree with Emily. However, I would like to investigate the sensor readings with my team before confirming anything. What worries me though, is where is the remaining ships? We know from previous encounters that they have at least 30 Destroyers, 7 Cruisers and a pile of FAC's besides Freighters and larger ships. Where are all these?"
Boris only nodded while looking thoughtfull. "Ok, get the information analyzed fully and I'll brief the Coincil of our findings. Last Question - Should the council order us to take direct action, when can we do this?"
"Depends on the target Sir." Commander Birch instantly replied. "If we are going for the Wolves, I would recommend some delay. We would of course have to wait for a gate to be constructed, but I would also recommend that the fleet completes training and overhaul before committing. Finally I would recommend that at least 2 of the Task Forces if not all 3 is committed to the operation. If we are going for the remaining Kox stronghold in Wolf 359, we have to see if we can get those cracked. IF we are going there, I would recommend that we stay at extreme range from the Kox weapons with all Destroyers and Light Cruisers escorting the BC's so we can pull away if needed.
"One other thing to remember Sir, We don't have that many modern missiles for our Launchers and our Fighters as well as the new F3 Fighters have not been delivered yet." Commander Ryan Wilson looked uninterested as usual, but the Logistical Officer was dead on the money.
Boris sighed and nodded at them all. "Good Points. Get me the last information and I'll push it before the council for considerations." With that he turned away and his staff quietly left the briefing room.
Ok councilors - What are your wishes? We have some targets at the moment, where 2 are more plausible that the others.
1: The Kox stronghold in Wolf 359. We can depart as soon as possible, yet we are fairly low on missiles. I can bring the bombardment cruisers, but that will take a few days of playing to fight the battle so something I would prefer to avoid. What I would attempt is to close towards the planet with full PD setup and 1 or 2 capitals and stopping as soon as the kox starts shooting. Unless the Kox are sneaky, we should be able to draw their full missile loads after us and disengage if needed.
2: The Wolves. We need to build a gate to get there, but I've hidden a JP which I Hope the Wolves haven't found yet. If they have, they have a clear avenue into Sol. The JP I'm using is 5 jumps from Sol though Alpha Centauri.
3: The Swarm - WAY away at last sighting. No idea where they are now.
4: Got 3-4 other systems that need a visit from some naval units, but no idea what's there at the moment. And I'm not going scouting since we don't have jump engines on the Heitmans, so we need Gate Network expansion.
Additionally, I'm not going to produce any more missiles for the next few years. First I'm going to gather some Gallicite to build them and secondly the IC Missile Drive was never researched. It is next in line, but will take 2½ years from now to research. If we go on the offensive before that we are stuck with older designs and Energy Weapons.
