On another note, some name proposals:

For our settled world in Alpha Centauri, the obvious name is Chiron (calling it Planet wouldn't really be workable IMHO)

Mining outposts on otherwise uninhabited worlds should be named after famous/infamous frontier settlements. I.e. Deadwood, Tombstone. Alternatively we can come up with new frontierish names for them (in the US at least they were usually either something moderately racist and/or vulgar or something ominous, so a mining operation on an ice-world might wind up being named "Hell's Snowball" or "Eskimo #####"). Mostly though we can probably leave them unnammed, since they are so numerous.

I'm not sure what other inhabited worlds we have (reading this and a good part of Blue Emus game the same day was a bad idea, they've started to bleed into each other in my mind). A brief empire summary might be helpful. Nothing too elaborate, just a star system, a population and maybe a one sentence description (i.e. "A newly colonized Mars-like world" or "Has alien ruins but is covered by a giant ice sheet").

For a naming scheme, I propose we submit names drawn from any work of science fiction and either vote on them or Rendap chooses the one he feels most suitable. So a world covered with ancient ruins might be nominated "Xa'Ha'Dum" (from Babylon 5), "Ilos" (from Mass Effect) and so forth.

As I issued the challenge, tradition allows Vainglory choice of weapons. Popular choices are swords and pistols, though according to Wiki hot air balloons, billiard balls and parasite-infested sausages are equally valid choices.

@ GaiusC - Thank you. It looks like I am back up and running now, so the Federation should be moving along tomorrow.

@ Deaghaidh - Welcome to The Federation. You've only been here for a short while and you are already being challenged by Vain? You'll fit in... :D
Any naming will be considered favorably by The Administration, I just want to get some RP tied into it if possible... ;)
Regarding your role, we have a few scientists pending, you can go join Colonel Trespoe in a dig somewhere or perhaps be assigned as a Govenor of one of our planets/mining colonies? Let me know what you prefer and I'll find a spot for you, since you don't feel like joining the Navy.

@ Vain - I will not do any killing of any Paradoxian Avatar. The Game do just fine without my assistance in that matter. Besides, I would love to see an Eating Duel take place where the menu is Mystery Meat.....

And I'll get an Empire Summary up tomorrow at some point.

I think I'd go with Administration as my first choice. Ideally a permanent colony and not just a swarm of automines. I want a chance to flex my social engineering muscles by building a deep space utopia that in no way will collapse into a nightmarish hellscape. :D

Edit: Actually if you have any new colonies in the immediate future I'd like to volunteer to lead one of them. Starting from scratch would give a lot of good RP opportunities.

From 2:10.

Those guys look sufficiently bumbling to be actual Paradoxians... myself included.

He said duel, not suicide pact, Rendap.

I can just see the promotional posters now: a smiling nuclear family standing on a barren tundra, with the caption:

"Come to Hell's Snowball, a utopia governed by the enlightened Dread Overlord Deaghaidh."

I have decided that the weapon for our duel shall be...

... our respective firstborn sons. Dead or alive, doesn't matter; we'll just be smacking one another about the chops with them.

You fool! I come from a long line of uncommonly large, heavy babies. I'll be needing Summer for at least nine months first though.

@ Deaghaidh - Gov it is then. I've been looking at some interesting planets to start a new colony and can probably get something fixed. Just tell me a colony name and tell me if you prefer a safe or a more... questionable location for a colony.

@ Vain - You have to give me credit for trying at least... :D And just out of curiosity - How many of those lovers are named "Bruce"?

As a name I'd go with Dysert. A neat old Irish word that means desert (as in uninhabited place, not place where it doesn't rain), hermitage, and home.

The colony will be run based on a modernized version of old Irish Brehon Law (with somewhat less emphasis on cattle). I of course will be chieftain.

By questionable, do you mean interesting? Yes please :D

Any eta on the next update? I've been busy recruiting colonists for Dysert. You'd be amazed at all the go-getters whose talents are being wasted here on Earth. Why, I've practically filled up the first colony ship just by paying visits to local halfway houses. What a tragic waste. In Dysert these people will achieve their full potential, and live in all-the-way houses!

Curse you for making me think there was an update. I've been busy teaching the finer points of Brehon Law to my future colonists.

What? No, Icepick. Yes, your right, all heirs are entitled to share equally in their father's estate but we do not wag our genitals at each other to make a point!

Yes, your right, all heirs are entitled to share equally in their father's estate

Supposedly a lack of primogeniture was a big problem for 19th Century Ireland, because the plot that a man could reasonably expect to inherit was too small to sustain a family. After all if you divide an estate into quarters in the first generation, and into quarters again the next, it's down to 1/16th the original size. That's alright when population growth is low, and the population isn't too large relative to the arable land, as consequently what was a 1/16th plot might easily be enlarged to a 1/8th plot if your cousin dies, for example. But when population growth is high, and lives longer, this means a man cannot request a woman's hand in marriage as he's no property, and a father may not be able to offer a dowry, either. Consequently, Ireland in the 19th Century had one of the highest rates of spinsterism the world has ever seen. ... If you're just going to moon me, I shan't discuss history with you anymore.

It's not quite dead, but I have been unable to get my installation working properly. I made a mistake in SM mode and added an additional Sol System, I need to delete - And I can't do that since my system screen is not working without some .dll file I've been unable to process.

But if there is someone wanting to take over, I will have no problems calling it a day and focusing on Roleplaying in a new one... :)

If not, I will get the installation running here between x-mas and new year (if at all possible) and continue the journey!

Merry X-Mas from the administration and apologies for not keeping you updated.

I'd vote for a continue. I was looking forward to seeing your administration attempting to take over one an alien world, you haven't even started trying yet ..

... And I can't do that since my system screen is not working without some .dll file I've been unable to process.

Is it MSSTDFMT.DLL?

If so, you'll need to download it (from any site, there's lots of places to get it), unpack it into your windows system folder, then open the command prompt as Admin (right-click, "Run as Admin"), use the cd command to navigate to the folder where you unpacked it, and type:

regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll
