Just checked now, the Slayers were/are missile armed. So any missile-armed CL captains are eligible too.
It's true that Rendap referred to Stuckenschmidt as "Mr" but I can't remember Rendap referring to anyone in the female gender prior to this revelation that some of us are secretly female (that was a hilarious trait in Medieval 2 Total War by the way... I once had a "Secretly Female" Pope) so perhaps it's just habit?

Yeah, it bothers me a little when I see "Nancy Potema has improved his research..." or whatever. But it would be a big task to fix that, since Aurora generates names from lists; I tend to use the American setting, because it's taken from US census bureau data, so I believe it's a very wide selection of names (3rd most populous country in the world and quite multi-ethnic). At a minimum Aurora would need to track female forenames so it could switch to the female gender when appropriate. A lot of effort for a tiny thing.
Sorry for my absence for the last few days, but my computer elected to die on me. And Yes - I did save the Aurora Files so the Federation is not dead!

"So Skipper, did you hear anything back yet?" Lt. Mike Turnbull teasingly asking his commanding officer. Although there was a few levels in rank in difference, they were getting along very well. Probably also helped that they were almost the same age as well.
"You know Mike, that if I received word back, I would probably tell you last, since you're talking so much! The whole Carrier would know within 2 minutes even if we were half a Billion miles away with a comm delay of 5 minutes!" Commander OrangeYoshi III chuckled. It wasn't that bad, but still..... Commodore Vainglory preferred the facts over rumours and was always cracking down on them where he found them. It didn't stop them of course.
"I'm not that bad Skipper! I just...." The com interrupted the outburst.
"Six-Four, This is Green Four, please acknowledge". The voice of the CAG of Grey Galah sounded and OrangeYoshi responded. "Green Four, this is Six-Four, go ahead."
"Six-Four, you are directed to return to base. 33rd from the Emu will take over CAG for the next 2 days. We have a few days off." - "Roger Green Four, returning to base, Out." Commander OrangeYoshi sounded before turning to look at Lt. Turnbull. "You heard our masters voice, let's go home so you can go back to rumours!" The 2 other crew members laughed as well while the F2 turned back towards the base.

"...so nothing really to report Sir. Only routine and the hardest part was staying alive. There was a little flicker on the engine, but I'm certain that the mechanics will have it spotted and fixed shortly." Commander OrangeYoshi relaxed with the debriefing since it really was only routine. Commander Hayward, the CAG of 39th Fighter Squadron, nodded and made a small note. It was not the first message that the F2 fighters were getting harder to maintain. Hopefully the F3's would be arriving soon.
Both commanders turned when the hatch opened and rose to attention as Commodore The Knight of Gliese I Vainglory II entered. He waved both of them down as he quietly took a seat waiting for the debrief to finish. A former Fighter pilot himself, he understood that something should be finished before commanding officers started to interrupt. After quickly finishing the debriefing Commander OrangeYoshi rose to leave only to be stopped by a hand on his shoulder. "Sit down Commander. What I have to say today concerns both of you", Commodore Vainglory said while sitting down at the table.
Looking at the 2 commanders, Commodore Vainglory continued. "It is regarding your Lt. Turnbull, Commander." OrangeYoshi looked bleakly back. Was Mike in trouble due to his talking again or what was happening?.
"Could you please give me your thoughts on his command abilities?"
Commander OrangeYoshi was a bit more at ease by that message, but did not show it. "Sir, he's young and could do with some more training. He would also do well to be a bit more... distanced to the rest of the crew to keep his respect. Beyond that, he's better than I am in piloting and navigation. I still have an edge over him in attack solutions, but not by much."
Commodore Vainglory nodded. "I expected that and had also planned to keep him as your XO for a while. But that was not to happen." Both Commanders looked puzzled at the Commodore as he continued. "We will be getting some new recruits shortly, including a new liuetenant, who will take over as XO of Six-Four. Commander Hayward, as we finish here you will pass on the message to Lt. Turnbull along with his new duties as per these orders". Commodore Vainglory took an envelope from his pocket and handed it over and Commander Hayward nodded.
"For the reference, Lt. Turnbull will of course be promoted to Commander to also take in his new duties. I just hope that he'll cut down a bit on his those talkative sides of his." Commodore Vainglory chuckled. "Sir, would it be possible to know where he's transferred to?" Commander OrangeYoshi asked.
"He's not going anywhere. He'll be taking over Six-Four when you move on Captain. Your orders came through and you'll be taking over CVE Vigilant next week. She's been without a Captain for a while now, but I'm certain that you'll take good care of her through her upgrade and training of the new F3 Shardul's she'll be receiving. I know that the CVE's will be relegated to colony defence when the Nautilus' begins to be constructed. I'm certain that you'll be a candidate for one of those puppies or a Bird at that time as well."
Captain OrangeYoshi was stunned by the news and was a bit surprised by the last few messages as Commodore Vainglory rose to leave. "Remember that you'll have to buy the first round. You can let Commander Turnbull buy the second, but I want to know so I can be there! As you were."
As Commodore Vainglory left the briefing room to the stunned Captain OrangeYoshi and the grinning CAG, he turned stopped and turned around. "By the way Captain, I believe there's a personal message waiting for you from the Bolivar. If it's good news, please remember to inform me as well, so I can be there for the big day!"
With this Commodore Vainglory left and Captain OrangeYoshi quickly looked for the personal messagw while the CAG laughed even louder!

Just discovered Aurora and was referred to this thread. Very nice, although I admit to most of it going over my head.
I'd like to enlist. Rather than be yet another naval officer some sort of bureaucrat or academic would be nice. Perhaps a posting on one of the Xenology teams. Unleashing unspeakable abominations and lost doomsday devices from dead empires seems fun. Of course 99% of the time I'd be sifting through fossilized alien scat and pottery shards.
I was wondering, is it possible to rename stars and planets? Because the standard names are a bit unwieldy, and I have a hard time thinking that humans wouldn't quickly assign a more interesting name to a potential new Earth than Gilese 54 A II or the like.
If it is possible, I move that Paradoxians get to submit names for the inhabited planets in the empire.

That's Aurora for you. Insanely complicated, but you get the hang of it after a bit.
It's entirely possible to rename systems, in which case all bodies in the system are updated; Gliese 581-A (IE the first of a possible four stars in the system) would become Sweetness-A; the first planet orbiting the primary star of the Sweetness system would become Sweetness-AI. The tenth moon would be Sweetness-AI-Moon 10. You can also rename all your colonies, so a colony on Sweetness-AI could be renamed Lovely, in the Sweetness system. IIRC (my game isn't working right now) it's possible to rename all the bodies in a system, so you could even rename "Sol-A" to just "Sol" and rename an uncolonized world to "Panic", via the System Generation Screen.
I like that idea. Increases community input.

As I issued the challenge, tradition allows Vainglory choice of weapons. Popular choices are swords and pistols, though according to Wiki hot air balloons, billiard balls and parasite-infested sausages are equally valid choices.
