just take the idea which gives you a casus belli against those who are infidel, then start attacking africa, and later it will be useful against protestants.

Thanks, Great to have you aboard.

As for avignon, look at the alliances of savoy.. If their allies aren't very strong or austria can keep them busy, DOW Savoy and hope avignon joins them. For the NI, I would go for military drill, you'll probably gonna need some morale..

Darn, I wish I would have thought of that yesterday. But what's done is done now.

rasmus40 said:
Good AAR so far. I would go for the extra morale as well. Is it possible for you to ally with France? That would keep Burgundy busy while you conquer Avignon and snatch some land from Savoy.

Nope, an alliance with France is "Impossible". But Austria did prove to be a good ally against Burgundy.

Carinthium said:
You should attack quickly, I agree.

Also, have you considered using loans as a mean to victory? (taking large numbers of loans to fuel a large mercenary army) Bankruptcy may result, but given the odds (assuming Burgundy and/or Aragon gets military acess through France) it may be necessary.

I attacked the moment I loaded the game. :D

As for the loans, no need for them in this war, perhaps a later one.

Yes, but I'll take that idea when the Protestants start taking over Europe in 100 years. :)

The Papal State : A Mission AAR
Part II

I took the Engineer corps NI in order to improve my siege speed on Avignons level 3 fort.

EU3_1-2.jpg

As suggested, I move my troops to Provence and declare war. Also note that Savoy is the alliance leader for the evil alliance.

EU3_3-1.jpg

We win the 1st Battle of Avignon by completely erradicating the Anti-pope's forces.

EU3_5-1.jpg

Then we get this nice message from Castille. :)

EU3_4.jpg

Meanwhile, our south Italian allies the Neopolitans, yummy ice cream :D , battle the Aragonese forces under the excommunicated king Marti.

EU3_6.jpg

And in the north, the main Burgundian and Savoyard forces besiege the Austrian city of Trent.

EU3_7-1.jpg

And the Habsburgs win, yay, I thought they were going to loose, since they attacked with about half the forces of Burgundy and Savoy combined.

EU3_8-1.jpg

While we happily besiege Avignon, the Burgundians decide to ruin our fun. :mad:

EU3_9.jpg

We Win :)

EU3_10.jpg

But then notice this...

EU3_12.jpg

Remember that Burgundian army the Habsburgs defeated? Well they decided Austria was too hard and went for us.

We obviously retreat..

EU3_13.jpg

But since they dont come after us...

EU3_14.jpg

Meanwhile in Iberia, the Neopolitans invade!!

EU3_15.jpg

Aren't they such good allies!!

Well, Back to Provence...

EU3_16.jpg

But first we defeat the Anti-pope's new forces...

EU3_17.jpg

While retreating to Provence, We get this Miraculous message...

EU3_20.jpg

And apparently, Burgundy was warning France, so they are now at war!!!

The Burgundians follow us to Provence, but we retreat to Avignon as soon as possible.

EU3_22.jpg

While the endless five days before retreating pass, we get this...

EU3_23.jpg

:rofl:

This is Burgundy's situation:

EU3_24.jpg

That's what they get for declaring war on the Pope.

The Papal State : A Mission AAR
Part II.V

Curse you rebels, The pope is on a Mission from God!!!! :mad:

EU3_25.jpg

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

EU3_26.jpg

EU3_27.jpg

Favourable peace deals, I would say.

EU3_28.jpg

I'll take care of that when I get back.

EU3_29.jpg

It's the Anti-pope's doing I tell you!

EU3_31.jpg

The mighty walls of Avignon finally break...

EU3_32.jpg

And they are swiftly annexed.

EU3_33.jpg

Now we just empty the Savoyard treasury...

EU3_35.jpg

And we comple... wait a minute...

EU3_36.jpg

They dared declare independance... No matter.

EU3_37.jpg

Now we can say it.

EU3_34.jpg

Yay, and our next mission is...

EU3_38.jpg

Oh no, I guess you'll find out next time ;)

I am wondering how you are going to pull this mission off, or if it is going to take 200 years :p

Mass inflation and mercs?

Nope, neither, read the update to find out. :D

Fireworks! The pope has imported some Chinese scientists? :D

Lovely AAR! More than 800 days to get Avignon... good thing you chose Siege Engineers otherwise you'd probably still be sitting in front of those walls in 1700 ;)

Hurray for Brabant deciding to knife Burgundy in the back :cool: !

If you're fighting against the pope, you're on the losing side. Although what I don't get...the Avignon anti-pope should be under the thumb of France...and yet they decide to go with you. I guess that excommunication put the fear of God in them.

Gah! Cliffhanger!

Nice job on getting Avignon, how badly is Burgundy doing? I always like to see them get killed :D

We know it is a conquest mission:
The only conquest missions for the Papal States are:
Code:
conquer_ferrara = {

	type = country

	allow = {
		tag = PAP
		113 = {	not = { owned_by = this } }		# Ferrara
	}
	abort = {}
	success = {
		owns = 113
	}
	chance = {
		factor = 1000
		modifier = {
			factor = 2
			mil = 7
		}
		modifier = {
			factor = 2
			adm = 7
		}
	}
	effect = {
		prestige = 0.05
	}
}
and

Code:
conquer_ancona = {

	type = country

	allow = {
		tag = PAP
		owns = 113		# Ferrara
		119 = {	not = { owned_by = this } }		# Ancona
	}
	abort = {}
	success = {
		owns = 119
	}
	chance = {
		factor = 1000
		modifier = {
			factor = 2
			mil = 7
		}
		modifier = {
			factor = 2
			adm = 7
		}
	}
	effect = {
		prestige = 0.01
		badboy = -1
	}
}

Which means...we are going to Ancona!!!

Yes, kidnap chinese scientist was one of the missions at the beginning. :D

The NI did help make the siege a little faster, aye. :)

Yes, although they only got Vlaanderen in a peace deal. :(

The Papal State : A Mission AAR
Part III

We begin with a new pope.

1.jpg

And as spl pointed out, our new mission is to conquer Ancona. Sadly, it is in the hands of our Ice Cream making friends, the Neopolitanese. :(

When we see Ancona might revolt away from our allies, the pope jumped so high with excitement, that his hat fell off.

2.jpg

But the rebels are defeated. :( And besiege Rome!!! :mad:

3.jpg

The years pass and the pope wonders if he'll ever complete the mission.

He got so bored one day he decided to help his Tuscan neighbors succed their mission. But they refuse. :mad: :mad: :mad:

4.jpg

Many years later, Modena decides that it will add the Papal shield to its collection, and becomes core.

5.jpg

Sadly, Benedictus the Random Roman Numeral died without seeing another mission.

And we get an evil pope. :eek:

6.jpg

This pope, however, is able to control himself.

7.jpg

Which is just what we needed to complete the mission...

8.jpg

9.jpg

Austria joins us, but the dishonourable scum that are the Neopolitanese don't. :mad: ;)

10.jpg

Naples was allied to Mantua...

11.jpg

So we hire some Modenan Mercenaries and besiege Mantua.

Meanwhile in Rome...

12.jpg

But...

13.jpg

VICTORY!!!

14.jpg

AGAIN!!!

15.jpg

More lands are added to the Patrimony of St. Peter.

16.jpg

After Ancona, since the ice cream makers wont give it to us :mad: , we attack Abruzzi and Napoli, the Neopolitanesanan capital.

17.jpg

18.jpg

This is me besieging both provinces at a time. :D

19.jpg

We conquer the ice cream capital of the world.

20.jpg

...and Abruzzi.

21.jpg
