The Papal Empire : A Mission AAR
Prologue
Prologue
As the ten thousand man army of rebellious nationalists entered the city of Venezia, they burned everything in sight. A large explosion was heard throughout the surroundings as a fleet of ships loaded with gunpowder ignited and destroyed half of the city.

Ernesto could not believe his eyes as he entered the Tuscan capital. Everything lay in ruins. The Duomo of Florence had caved from the damage it had received during the siege of the city. Fires were rampant throughout the city, and disease was everywhere.
“How could… How could this have happened?!” He imagined the response of the Pope when he received the news.
“Should we keep heading north, my lord?” the driver asked.
“Yes, and hurry!”
As the coach left the city, Ernesto noticed a Papal Carriage that had crashed into the Arno River.
“Stop!” he yelled as loud as he could.
The carriage came to a complete halt and Ernesto stumbled out of the carriage, scraping his skin on the rough streets and tearing his clothing.
The driver quickly recovered from the shock and leapt out to help Ernesto.
“My Lord! Are you alright?”
“Yes… I’m fine. Go see if anyone is alive in that carriage.”
“Yes, sir”
As the boy went to the river, Ernesto managed to stand and slowly walk toward the ill-fated carriage.
“Well?”
“I am afraid it is empty, My Lord.”
“What… Are you sure? This is Rafaello’s carriage.”
“Perhaps the river…”
“Oh no…” Ernesto pulled out the message the Pope had entrusted him to deliver to Rafaello, and looked up to the grey sky. He could only hope his suspicions were wrong. "We must return to Rome to inform the Pope"
"And the carriage?"
"There is nothing more we can do here."

“Quickly, take this to Ernesto. He is on his way to Venezia.” The Pope handed the letter to his messenger.
“As You wish, Your Holiness.”
“Tell him he must not return to Rome, for I will be leaving the city tonight.” He looked at his other messenger. "And you, tell the General to move all of his troops to the Austrian border. We are going to war."
