There was no Eastern Roman Empire after the thrones were formally united in 476. If you want to call Byzantines Roman, then it's just Roman Empire.
Though I agree with dynastic titles for some non-European realms.

Ottoman Prinicipality pre 1356, Ottoman Sultanate pre 1453 and Ottoman Empire post 1453.
I do agree about the first two, but I don't understand why you want to rename it afer the fall of Constantinople?
They held Constantinople and they were powerful and they had lot of different people and kingdoms under their rule.
Guys... If you wanna rename it, it's not that hard. Find it in the localisation (even with the demo) and rename it to whatever you want.

Indeed, I'm sure whatever people would change the name to, be it Ottoman, Ottomans, or Turkey, having dynastic names for certain tags be dynastic would certainly be the best solution.
We could also follow the Byzantine mindset and call Turks along with everyone else east of Constantinople "Persians".
Yeah, but exept for the Constantinople part, the rest was true even before. The conquering of the city gave them much prestige, but to the point they should change their state name ingame, a change that doesn't reflect what happened historically?
They use it as legitimisation to claim the title Kaisar-i Rum. Emperor of Rome.
Same name really, its about their rank, when they got Constantinople they reached the rank of an empire IMO. The turkish scholars uses mostly these ranks. I.e.
Osmanli Beyligi----->Osmanli Devleti---->Osmanli Imparatorlugu
Mehmed II is considered as the second founder of Ottomans, or rather founder of the Empire. Not just by conquest of Constantiple also by his reforms within the state.
And as I said the conquring of the city gave them much prestige. That said though, no one in Europe was granting them any legitimacy to the title of Emperor of Rome... and the Ottomans failed to conquer the rest of what was the Roman Empire. I can see the fall of Constantinoble becoming the trigger of a DHE about the "Heirs of Rome" or something like that and consequential missions following that, but not a name change.
Actually, simple Osmanli can be the name of their state, now, can't it?
Same people called Eastern Roman Empire "Greek Empire". I dont think we should care much about what Europeans or others granted back than.

I think the name should definitely change to Turkey if it becomes a republic. And it always irritates me very much as a German that the English mangle their name to "Ottoman" which sound kind of German while we Germans use the more correct term "Osmanisches Reich".
I honestly dont care what Paradox goes with. Im renaming TUR tag to "Ottomans" in my game and my mod. I prefer the enemy i know.
