Why do they do this ? In my run the Ottomans allied AQ and never expanded into Egypt and made costly wars in Europe and they can't expand anymore. They don't break the alliance, which means I can't take the Iranian provinces that he has (playing as the Mughals) since I don't want a costly war where I drag my entire army just so I get -%10 advisor cost (I have 300k troops, they have 280k or something, the Mamluks arer guarenteing AQ).

Why does the AI do this ? The Ottomans didn't expand into Karaman either since they allied the Mamluks. The AI really needs an update.

Can you attack another ally of AQ and take the province from them that way? Either way it may be time to destroy the Ottomans.
It's not one province, it's like 8 provinces since I need to own all of the Iranian culture lands. The ottomans aren't really a threat to me since I'm focusing on India

Then you can force AQ to dissolve their alliance with the Ottomans, as long as you can get them in a war as a ally of your enemy. It costs 10 war score.

It's not about that tho, its about how braindead the ottoman AI is to ally their expansion route

Ottomans have been doing this since 1.28 I think, it's effing stupid. They literally get missions and claims on the land, but still won't break the alliance over it? They shoot themselves in the foot and it does kill the game when the Ottos are supposed to be your mid-game competition.

I often see Moscowy having the same issue. They ally Ryazan and then never form Russia because of it.
I realized that the AI doesn't break alliances even if they have claims on their ally, so this is a general problem about the AI, the games biggest problem.

Meh, sometimes the Ottomans go into the Balkans, sometimes they go south, sometimes they go north, sometimes they do a combination of the 3, sometimes they die. In my current game they are into Crimea, up against Hungary, and already in Alexandria in 1540. Of course, I am playing in the Far East and not affecting them (yet), so that may be part of the calculations.

They used to. I don't know what changed. I distinctly remember all of a sudden I get the notice for alliance breaking with Spain (for example), so I look at their opinion of me and they have a massive negative modifier due to "wants your provinces." Even if it was only like 3 provinces, it would be such a negative modifier it was impossible to overcome.

I don't really see this as an issue anymore but it used to eventually doom all of my alliances.

I think the reason is that the Mamluks are significantly stronger in the later patches than they used to be. They are definitely stronger than Ottos and I usually see them ally with Morocco, which the Ottos are likely trying to offset with an alliance themselves.

I realized that the AI doesn't break alliances even if they have claims on their ally, so this is a general problem about the AI, the games biggest problem.

They don't break the alliance because

  1. The "wants your provinces" modifier scales with total dev they want. As the beyliks are rather small, they can keep the Ottomans cordial even if they want all their land.
  2. If the AI likes an ally enough, they will no longer seek to enforce claims on their land.
So the beyliks keep the Ottomans friendly even through them wanting their land, until the Ottomans like them enough to no longer want their land. And the Turks are done.

Now, there is of course a simple fix for that:

Well, until those claims are on the player, then 9/10 they're more than happy to

That's not how the human bias works. The AI will break alliance IF they have claims and can rival the target. For example: if Muscovy is allied with Golden Horde, forms Russia and GH is a possible rival, chances are they will rival GH because they get A LOT of claims on GH.

AI is coded to be extra scared of the player, so if its true that would be the reason

That's not how it works.

In a similar vein I see Muscovy ally Ryazan a lot of the time and then not go and take Smolensk from Lithuania. In those games Russia only forms when I invite them to stomp on the Commonwealth with me.

Well there is the event for an state that has claims on its ally’s territory which reduces relations, removes the core, or a loss of prestige. Could script the AI to pick the reduced relations every time or make an AI equivalent event that reduces relations only and a much higher level.
