Time for another quick update.

Sadly, I recently lost my 3rd Mech Warrior in over 1200 days. Not sure how I could have avoided it, as it was a pristine Mech that just happened to cop a face-full of Autocannon from a Wolverine!

On another note, got my first Crab.....though not sure I'll use it too often!

Decided to rush to the edge of Capellan Space to participate in a 3-skull Flashpoint....but sadly got there too late. Still, now that I was there I decided to make the most of it, & did a 3-skull mission.....boy was it TOUGH! Faced off against a fully armoured Grasshopper, Thunderbolt, Quickdraw & Orion-V.

Made my fair share of mistakes early on. Jumped my Quickdraw much to close to the OpFor, & paid for it with them focusing that Mech. After a few rounds, it ended up with no weapons, so I chose to eject the pilot-saving both of them in the process.

The Orion was focused next by the OpFor, forcing another ejection (though not before it had taken down the enemy Quickdraw & most of the Orion-V). I still managed to get a "Cowardice" achievement for that :p. So there I was, 2 Mechs vs 3! Luckily the Orion-V was taken out in the very next round, & one of the two mechs was my uber-powered Trebuchet. It was a tough & tense battle, but my surviving Lance-mates managed to win the day.....& I finally got an Orion-V for my trouble :).

AC/20 (ideally ++damage or +++), 3 SRM2, 1 Medium Laser, Jump Jets! Amazing close-combat Orion V build!

Jump it into the side arc of a target with a Tactics 9 pilot and call a shot against the head. ~1/6 chance it kills the mech outright, almost always scores a head hit otherwise. (Prioritize the SRMs over the Laser when heat is a concern).

If you’re using cover and bulwark, you’ll be much less susceptible to random head hits. You got hit at least twice here since an AC/5 doesn’t have enough power to headshot by itself.

I nearly lost a pilot to an AC/20 head hit recently, but she was Bulwarked in cover and survived with 1 point remaining! Then I spent the rest of the drop jumping her max distance, keeping all opponents in her side arc, and guarding. (Presenting the rear arc would have gotten her focused and possibly cored out anyways, although it would have eliminated the possibility of headshots)

When you get a second orion-v they make a great missle boat, drop in 3 LRM15s and 6 tons of ammo and BRING THE PAIN! If you can find +1 or +2 stability bonus LRMS it can take most mechs from no stability to 100% unsteady in one salvo.
