No, that is inviting a Holy Man to your court. Inviting a nobel costs Money that is on a scale of how much you make. So being the Emporer I am it costs me around 150 gold per invite.

You don't have to use the "Holy Man" as clergy. They work just fine as landed nobles.

You should really stop spamming skirmish retinue if you don't want to be swamped in generals. If you have a big enough realm to support a large HC retinue then its just another minor annoyance like the 1% revolt for wrong culture or faction wars. Hell if you somehow have 100 HC retinues then your pretty much invincible without even raising levies.

You still get less children, the limits are 30 and 60 courtiers if I'm not mistaken. You'll basically reach that in no time. After that it does not matter anymore.

Umm, you could just give counties to your vassals' and vassal's vassals courtiers, you know.

Best thing about lowborns is that when given land they get a proper name for their house, not that "of [x]" crap.

Yes I know that, and I am not worried about having the very best advisors. As long as I can find someone with at least 15, which I have no problem with the size of the realm I have now.

Another thing I found out is the Lowborns are canon fodder for the Hasashin.

The create noble/clergy button are just for just starting out as a count or minor duke when U have no influence and basically no court.

My strategy is to grow the culture so I keep my retinue down below 30 when I can. Kill off a few old spinsters in the court for the intrigue experience. Train your daughters/female kin in intrigue, and they become perfect accomplices for murder (there, I said it).

Learned this from CK(i); To grow your culture marry debutants in your court to others of your culture only. Generally refuse any offers of marriage outside your culture.

When you character begins to conquer lands he should then have sufficient lowborns or unlanded nobility to fill the posts. Basically, going forward, there'll be enough young blood to be able to pick and choose.

Oh, for council, look beyond culture (but w/i one's religion) for only the best. One can still marry them matiliniarly (sp) to grow one's dynasty--that's not hard.

I have only done 1 game so far since the LOR came out. I started at the Alexiad start date in 1081, and if your able to continually expand the whole game, and I have been using all of the lowborn generals and giving them each a county in the new duchy I recently counquered.

I have gone through at least 40 or 50 lowborn generals this way. And because of that I don't have to waste vasts sum's of money on inviting nobels to court. And all lowborn generals immediatly are given a House when granted the county.

Just a tip for people who didn't know what to do with all those pesky lowborns that were just sitting around muddling up your courts.

Also that way I have a mass amount of small counts for a various time until I deem it necessary to grant that land a duke. I don't find it very hard to manage a vast amount of count's, dukes and a couple kings as the Emporer.

When you make it to year 1300, then most courts have hundreds of courtiers and that slows down the game engine enormously. Plus character fertility goes down immensely because of all these courtiers, the character cap for courts are somewhere around 40-50 if i'm not mistaken. Those things combined will always outweigh any silver linings in my book.
