Can we see the same strategy replicated, but under different (less favorable) starting circumstances?

How about Insane Difficulty, Medium galaxy with normal starts (17 basic, 4 advanced starts). Crowded galaxies on insane is pretty much the crucible for testing strategies - lets see it work there. Aggressiveness should be default.

We can call it confirmed if you can survive to and defeat whichever Late Game Crisis you get. I think that's a fair test.
Strongly disagree.

Insane is stupid. I hate just giving the AI flat bonuses to everything because its stupid.

I've figured out a way to control the entire universe with only one planet. Will be streaming my game tomorrow to prove it :)

If I don't play pacifist like I did in this game, this will be a trivial challenge that'll involve lots of vasseline.

The only way an A.I. might have a chance against me is if it starts a million miles away from me where I can't molest it with a super-early super-tech corvette rush.

Fair enough. Can you do that then? If it's trivial, you can probably play through it at pretty high speed, so it shouldn't take too long.

Already did it. How could I prove it though? The game does not show the settings from the inside... I could just say I did it, then purge all my pops and reduce myself to one planet while playing on easy or whatever the easy setting is called and having had a huge empire.

See my problem here? I can't prove any of the "settings fixers" wrong, because there is no way to show my settings.

Im going to stream my attempt at a one planet universe tomorrow :)

I am a bit curious how you got level four spaceports in ten years, some of those techs take about 10 years for me most games.

I'll be running 39 ai empires, 20 advanced. I hate higher difficulties, not because its harder but because it feels like a fake and artificial way of making up for the stupid AI.

Pretty easy to see if you're on Insane. When you look at a pop on another empire, does it have a +100% (or more) empire bonus?
Insane difficulty can go blorg itself. Giving the ai stupid artificial and fake bonuses is an unfun and dumb way to hide the fact that the ai is idiotic just makes for a game experience that i personally struggle to enjoy.

The point is not whether or not Insane is a good challenge for you. The OP said it was trivial. I highly doubt the veracity of his argument, and would like to see it. I'm even probably going to attempt it when I get home, using all the tricks I'm aware he's using. I (and others) are attempting to get the OP to acknowledge that his build is not "overpowered" but living in a galaxy cultivated for its existence.

Personally, I find "artificial" boosts in computer skill annoying as well. However, I find that Insane is the only thing that is challenging in SP and I enjoy that challenge far more than hate the imbalance. What would you do to make the AI harder? Lower it's threshold for forming alliances with itself? That's not going to be fun, and it's the same artificial increase in challenge. Make the computer smarter than a human? Hard to do, especially when it has to run on a budget computer. Anything you do will be an artificial boost, it's an artificial intelligence.

Lt Loco, have you played a lot of EUIV?

http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...481/84C6F5D4D651A635F94F91C83DD3782286402B25/

Here is a screenshot of something I've done and this wasn't that difficult (though it wasn't that easy either).

Stellaris is a very easy game. Sorry to say. But it is, even on "insane" or whatever the settings you might go for. Limiting myself to cheesy roleplaying rules are literally the only way to squeeze any challenge out of this game whatsoever.

Yep, I enjoy a good EU4 game. You'll not quite get Three Mountains on that run. I honestly get bored with EU4 before I get to world conquest stage, and I don't have enough drive to hunt achievements to overpower it. It's in my standard rotation of games I play though.

No and No.

If you want an A.I. to be powerful, give it an advanced start, plenty of space to grow into and leave it alone.

The fact I have Xeno leadership amuses me, because it gives away what my clever little gimmick was, but I'm glad no-ones actually worked it out because it'd be on the chopping block so fast as badwrongfun that it'd be patched out before you can say "5 year truces".
if you're not cheating, and you have xeno leaders without xeno pops, I guess you're just building lots of observation posts with agressive observation. it matches your society-research being much higher as the other 2 areas, and in the outliner it's visible you have at least 1 observation post. your traits also focusses on generating societyresearch, and your ethos further boosts scienceproduction.

but the only reason that would really benefit you is keeping the tech penalty from planets and pops down. you would have to focus on borderrange and influence techs to get as much territory as possible, and lots of outposts. maybe you're combining it with one of the research grants(I'm guessing engineering from your screenshots) to convert all that society into another area. and possibly encourage free thought, since with just a capital planet ethics divergence doesn't matter much.

it may work, as seen in your screenshot, but IMO it would be a lot of effort for a benefit that's hardly worth it, you still have a pathetic naval cap with 1 planet, and superior tech isn't really going to help you that much with just 30 fleetcap, and your enemies can easily steal your tech if they get some debris from you.

if that strategy works for you, you could probably do it even better if you allow yourself more as 1 planet. 1 planet with stone age primitives herded into reservations can easily give you 100 society research, settle only those planets and you'll have more societyresearch than you'll now what to do with.

Good luck is what I say :).

I've been doing not much for a while now. But if we were playing, I would have killed you in the first 10 years or so when I had the 4th level of red laser and the 4th level of spaceport and everyone else was still using what they started with.

I'm not saying it can't be beaten, but it's pretty scary because I could just make a ton of colony ships and then build the basic spaceports if I wanted to, it's not like all the overpowered research will be taken away after. All you really need is fleet support.

I'm losing energy because I have about 15x 4.4k forts out there and they have serious stacking upgrades already. I would not be surprised if one of them could solo that entire 10k fleet of yours.

Afraid to say, you'll lose.
As you cannot match the fleet sizes, any losses the larger side takes, given you little war score, any losses you take given them more war score, they will be able to quickly replace their losses, you will not, those 15 fortresses will not cover each other enough, in the end you will be worn down and lose the war, on war score alone, they wont need to even land troops on your only world.

Making and sending out those colony ships once the war stars and expecting that to make a lick of difference is just wishful thinking.

Sorry to say this to you, but the optimal strategy in the early game is the crystal plate corvette rush with lasers, with a defence platform next to your first spaceport with magnet/snare. Thanks to the new patch making spaceports scale up on upgrades and the sheer cliff difference between high tech corvettes and low tech ones, the fast researcher will have a serious edge early on while your spending money on colony ships and colonies. He can spend that money on spaceport upgrades, expensive corvettes and going over force limit.

Then he can come and he can kill you. Expanding is great and everything, but it takes a while to pay back (in energy and minerals, it does not strictly ever pay back in research).

After you have been made into a vassal, he can go back to what he was doing while you supply extra military for him.

Sorry what are you talking about? The AI will wear itself down pretty quickly, running into stations, retreating, not fully repairing and coming back again.

I didnt play until late game but i did something similar to OP this morning, declared war on 8 ai and they all just kept killing themselves on my stations. 10 years later they had all surrendered to me and I could have just gone asleep to win the war.

Against players you are talking about something entirely different but knowing game mechanics in SP as OP obviously does helps a lot in MP as well

Vasious is talking about multiplayer. Lt Coco was claiming to be able to beat Edmon in a multiplayer match, and Vasious was responding to Edmon's response to that.

Yeah, but obviously, if it was a multiplayer game, I wouldn't be faffing around with a no wars policy. Nor would I be sitting there without attacking people and turning them into vassals. It's a bit of a silly argument really. As I said, multiplayer is all about the corvette rush. If you lose your homeworld spaceport, it's gg.
