I was bored of this games micromanagement and so I decided that'd just live with one planet and see how far I could take it. The answer was really, really stupidly far. I do not see any other threads on the discussion of winning the game without ever colonising or taking any other planet (I hope a crisis will wipe everyone else out, basically), so this will be that thread.

This is the story of the Forgotten of Earth. The OP OPM. Ruinator of Stagnant Empires.

Lets not even try to hide it, 100 years have passed and technology has, shall we say, progressed.

A thousand stars in Ironman, but lets face it, all you need is one right?

All you need to do is take one planet to win guys, come on :D

Fortresses don't cost fleet supply of course...

Yeah, it seems like the other empires have a LOT of catching up to do.

Any ideas what I should do with this game? I'm hoping for the zerglings to turn up and barren the galaxy for me. Though, the level of insane research speed I have achieved will definitely be badwrongfun at some point. Enjoy it while it lasts :D.

How did you sort it so only two One Planet Minors who haven't been spamming frontier outposts showed up in the list? Or are they the only AI empires and you've just been keeping them down the entire game with Abandon Planet?

Yeah I'm curious what the initial setup was as this would presumably play out a lot differently if the galaxy was fully populated with AI empires.

what puzzles me is that you have xeno leaders, yet your planet only has human pops. I thought you could only get leaders from pops you have? (except that event you abduct a scientist from a pre-ftl civ)

There are ways to stop A.I. players from doing much :).

Now I do have some concerns that there may be a much stronger A.I. empire on the other side of the galaxy that I've not been able to molest.

I'll apologise in advance for not sharing my strategies, I learnt from EUIV that anything even remotely clever is badwrongfun and will be removed from the game if it ends up on this forum :p. I am technologically so superior in such a short time to the other empires.

Though I am sad one of them managed to actually expand despite my constant (and I'm peaceful, I never declared war on anyone) harassment.

We are not asking for strategies. We are asking for the setup.

1,000 stars,
8 empires,
Ironman,
Everything else default.

I believe there are another 4 empires over on the dark side of the galaxy, maybe 5. One might be dead. The galaxy is huge in this game, they could be anywhere doing anything tbh.

In my One Planet game, I eventually ran into two walls

1) Boarder pressure from my neighbours eventually restricted all the systems I have access to, as frontier outposts were squeezed down to only projecting to the system they were in.
I was in the centre of the cluster in the game so was quickly enveloped.
Propaganda broadcasts and such seems to only effect boarder projections from planets only

2) Whilst fortresses don't cost fleet score, eventually I was overwhelmed by sufficient fleets as you could only fit so many defences in a system, and I lost my war, and Empire, on lost war score from battles alone, they did not need to land troops on the home world.

Only 8 empires? wtf...
1000 Star + 8 empires. Propably no advanced starts either.
And I guess AI difficulty and agressiveness are turned down too...
And he might even have run the version of the beta where Research Pact gives a penalty rather then a bonus.

Gives all them pre-ftl late comers a chance to expand
Wich will have no way to catch up to him technologically using the AI routines. So even worse AI.

@Edmon:
You stacked the deck so far in your favor, your entire point of it being OP is not even remotely existing. You basically cheated your way into that state in a SP game.
Since you are pacifist+fanatic materialsit all you had to do is Liberation warfare against the weak AI to get them to join up with you.
You could easily get resoruce from research pacts with those backwards large empires.

Congratulations - you did the equivalent of stealing candy from a AI baby. I guess candy stealing is OP now?

I did a version of this in my RP save, expanded as normal, eventually took a Ringworld from the local Fallen Empire, moved to my new digs (with a mod that lets you change capital planet), then created new vassals out of my territory where I could and gave up the rest to factions clamoring for independence. It's a completely viable strategy (if a bit long-winded) and if I bothered to take the time to finish it out there wouldn't be too much trouble triggering a win condition by eliminating the remaining large empires (with my swarms of vassal fleets) and vassalizing the rest.

No you are incorrect.

I have not touched the A.I. difficulty for a start. I choose 8 empires to give the A.I. plenty of room to expand without them having to fight each other too hard. If you play a tiny Galaxy with lots of A.I., the game is very easy. Packing the Galaxy tight with A.I. would benefit me, since they'd all be relatively smaller (without wars to expand usually against alliances and feds that pull them apart) and I am a single planet.

Have you even experimented with this game at all? It's also not my fault that the A.I. is bad.

In 100 years I've banked nearly 400 technologies, including boarder expand x12 as you can see in the screenshot. This wouldn't matter no matter what the A.I. is doing anyway, research speed base is held accountable to amount of planets and pop size.

But in the famous words TheMeInTeam:
"Those who could not do that in any version will tell you it was easy anyway" [He was talking about my Ryukyu run in EUIV where I had most of the planet by 1600].

Now that said, I do actually think this was really easy, despite me setting it up to be hard (I wanted large A.I.s against a tiny OPM, but couldn't help constantly sabotaging the ones I could see).
