I've put up 450 hours on this amazing game. I've bought every dlc, even songs for characters I'll never play as. This is honestly the best game I've ever played. But man Paradox, what the heck were you thinking with this liege levy system?!?! It's the ONLY bad part of the new DLC/Patch. But it TERRIBLE. I sincerely feel as though I can't play the game the way it was meant to be played. And don't give me, "Adjust your strategies!" No. The new implementation is just plain awful. I'm all for making micromanagement less. Personally, I was fine with having to raise every barony and shift them, but I understand others didn't want that.

When I need to defend my realm from invaders, why should ALL of my vassals troops have to be raised in the duchy capital?! It's just ridiculous. I should never have to take an extra 3 months to move troops, just because they were raised half way across my empire in a foreign duchy. Not all of my duchies are going to have perfect clear cut borders. What if the Duke of Normandy wins a Holy War for Tunis? And then 30 years later, the Caliph wants it back? Does it really make ANY logical sense, to have African troops be raised half way across the world?! It makes me so angry! Troops should be raised in the county they're garrisoned in. It makes absolutely no sense at all, from any viewpoint at all, to not have that. It doesn't make levy management easier. It only makes it more frustrating! The sultan will have my holdings 100%, before I can even load the stupid boats, since I can't even raise troops where I want them. The new system makes realm defense, exceedingly complicated when there's no need for it, and frustrating, and this is coming from a pretty experienced player. And don't even get me started on King vassals when you're an emperor. God help you if your king is attacked halfway across his kingdom. Not only will you have to raise all his troops in his capital, but it'll be a solid 30k at once, with no choice to raise less at once. Hurray for good logic!!

I love the new dlc. Factions seem good so far with what I've played, adding that little bit of instability and realism. The new Byzantine events are GREAT. Haven't used retinues yet BUT at least they're a choice. I can't change this levy system back. And it's making my favorite game unplayable to me. Change levies back to the way they were. I hope someone high up sees this.....

And just to be clear, if there's some way to raise troops in specific counties and I just haven't found it yet, excuse my whole post for rage-stupidity. Lol. But if not, FIX THE LEVYS!

At the very least the new levies should be raised on a duchy-by-duchy basis where all local troops are raised in the capital of their de jure duchy (unless they're a counts troops direct to the crown where they should raise in that county).

... I honestly hadn't considered that issue before now. I do like the system, though, and a rollback to the old one would, to me, be just as bad as keeping the current issue. Perhaps a good balance would be to have the liege levies raised in the county you click "raise liege levy" from? Then again, that would lead to issues if you raise them from the ledger...

EDIT: Or offer separate options for dukes controlling more than one duchy. If Duke X controls Duchy Y and Z, or portions of them, there should be an option where you could demand the liege levies from one of these duchies, spawned in the de jure capital (or closest controlled province to this) of the duchy in question.

Um, there WAS a way to raise specific county levies, unless they've disabled it as part of the new levy system. Click on the specific county and there should be a "raise county levies" button.

It's gone, now it's a raise vassal levies button and it functions as stated in the OP's post.

Haven't played this game in a while. Soon as a loaded it up and started, the first thing I noticed was the new raise levy system so I quit. I doubt I'll play this game again unless it is somehow modded out. Not sure who was complaining about the old system since it seems to make a whole lot more sense than it does now. Whats the point of even having the raise levy button on the county. I completely agree with the OP. Farewell CK2 it was nice while it lasted.

I must say I found it annoying and pointless as well. Was trying to do stuff like raise troops to fend off the Seljuks, but instead of appearing in the Levant all 3000 of them would appear in Syracuse etc.

What exactly is the point supposed to be with making it our vassal's capital?

I guess it works for me, I will revoke any Duke's lands that they get outside of their de jure, that way the Duke is the local Duke and his troops will be raised as such.

So it does work for those of us that are fixated on keep borders pretty.

I haven't been able to play 1.07 yet, so I can't really comment on the changes, but I will say this; it was a royal pain in the backside managing levies in 1.06 with any realm even remotely resembling something that might be considered big.

Please explain to me how this new military system isn't horribly broken. I'll wait.
The problem only shows up in any meaningful way when a given vassal has two vastly separated territories. And in your specific example exactly how many troops were you expecting to be raised in Tunis that could somehow face off the Fatamids without chilling out and waiting for help anyways, given that it's apparently a fraction of a vassal's land (likely with a recently conquered penalty)? The other people complaining haven't even tried the change and are crying murder over it. It's a tremendous improvement for managing the forces of large empires. It's also likely aimed partially at helping against the ridiculous way fractional reinforcement worked that rendered wars with the HRE/big nations a slog of endless manpower reserves as well as game performance during wars of major powers.

Does the centralized troop raising only happen if you are a king level liege? I started as a count and now I'm a multi-duhcy duke, but my troops are always getting raised in individual provinces, (I'm playing LoR). I've got Nikea, capua and Tripoltania, but the later isn't raising troops.

Centralized troop raising is only for raising your vassals' troops. Your own troops will always raise per-county as always, but your vassals (if they have multiple holdings) will raise a single stack at their capital. This only really becomes a potential issue if individual vassals have significantly separated territory.

Does the centralized troop raising only happen if you are a king level liege? I started as a count and now I'm a multi-duhcy duke, but my troops are always getting raised in individual provinces, (I'm playing LoR). I've got Nikea, capua and Tripoltania, but the later isn't raising troops.

If you're a duke your direct vassals are going to be counts, so they'll likely only have one province each anyway.

Regarding the op, I don't have a problem with it. If anything it adds impetus to preventing ludicrous duchies with constituent counties on opposite sides of the map.

Makes sense too. If the duke responsible for overseeing some provice in Africa spent the bulk of his time in, say, France, it stands to reason that his African holding would be vulnerable.
