The Old Gods/Mods Won't Work

Whenever I use The Old Gods or a mod none of my saved games work (all counties have "No Character"), and if I start a game from any start date after a couple of weeks I get a dozen messages that are all completely blank (no buttons or text on them, just the picture of the 2 people in the throne room).

I've tried deleting the local content with Steam and then I manually deleted the Paradox Interactive folders from both SteamApps and MyDocuments before uninstalling and re-downloading CK2, but neither of those have worked. The problem started about 6 weeks ago (I think), I just haven't had time to deal with it before now.

Look in the CK2 game properties in Steam, the beta tab. I suspect you have opted into the 1.09x beta, which was before TOG was released. Opt out of that then run a Steam verify.

I checked and I wasn't enrolled in the beta. My game says 1.11 when I run it.

I did the Steam Verify; "All files successfully validated."

I apologize; I made a typo and didn't notice it. It does say 1.111, with (NYEX) next to it.

OK, that's an invalid checksum (assuming you had no mods loaded), it should be MLYP so you have a bad installation .

Normally a verify will fix that, but if not you need to do a full clean reinstall: move any valued save games elsewhere and uninstall the game from within Steam. Then manually delete ALL the CK2 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders. Now reinstall the game from Steam, and run the Verify again just to make sure it all came down properly.
