Apparently they just hate their other options more.

Leaves you wondering what they could have done to be worse than a xenocidal devouring swarm.

Kind of like Knights of Sidonia episode 4, where a hard turn with LOTS of collateral damage was a better option than letting a single Gauna get on the ship.

I wonder what would have happened if you had embraced that party's ethic...

If nothing else, it would have been very entertaining.
All of his robotic pops would have been exterminated.

And the spiritualist robots would say:"I'm a cold and unfeeling machine, which is an abomination. I must be destroyed."

So, I bet we're all familiar with this story:

There's a planet.
It's not a very good one, to the detriment of the people who live there.
They all died.
I come along.
There's a vault full of these long-dead people, but digitized in the hopes some enterprising alien would know what to do with them.
Robot body? Nope.
Droid body? Hmmm...
Synth tech? (Just to be safe - don't know if researching synths helped) Sure!
They're so happy that they agreed to colonize a random world in my name.
ENEMY FLEET WARNING!

Well... they've sure got spunk.

Well... they've sure got spunk.

The AI does seem to like colonizing systems with certain defenses already in place.

That feeling you get when you've annihilated the enemy's entire fleet, and proceeded to bomb their homeplanet, only to have a -5% warscore that keeps worsening by 1% each month.

"We better dismantle the fleet and surrender folks, cause these xenos are too badass for us"

The way I've always viewed the Warscore ticking down for not holding your target, is that it's not that the Xeno is strong, it's that the people don't want to keep working extra to supply the war when you haven't made any of the gains you promised when you started.

Basically, your people are questioning your competence and as such clearly desire a purge.

Sadly, we can no longer purge dissidents like a proper crazy dictator without also purging ourselves.

Looks like the agenda generator for initial leader does not consider starting/default policies. Slave optimizations when slavery is not allowed, and ethics strongly discourage (or block?) it being allowed.

This is wierd. I didn't know Sydney Beauclair wanted to eat our babies...

Xenophobe, Fanatic Militarist and Fanatic Materialist o_O

Is there a mod that allows you to pick more ethics or something? (not that it matters much to me as I pretty much always play hivemind anyway, but I'm too curious to stop asking.)

Actually it is Fanatic Militarist, Xenophobe, and Fanatic Industrialist. I used the mod "Ethic & Government Rebuild" that gives you many more types of ethics and civics and lets you choose 5. I thought it would fit Commonwealth of Man to be Fanatic Industrialist because of the Utopia video shows them to be like it. Maybe apart of their industry means processing alien's babies?

I have to do a search, but there's an earlier post in here where someone found the same thing, and terraformed it into an ocean world. Turns out that water is better than glue when it comes to fixing a planet with an exposed core that is also orbiting a black hole.
i posted that some time ago. later it became the waiting world for the worm event chain. didnt destroy the buildings so the people disappeared. Later, I colonized it again, and I found ancient terraforming equipment. Seemed like I left it earlier there. Then, because RNGsus loved me in that save, I "started it up" and the waiting world became a gaia world. Orbiting a black hole. Well.
