• Russia doing rather well
• Ottomans in Italy

Last but not least an Ethiopia with a majority Oromo culture.

A few things from my current game as Portugal...

Funnily enough, neither the Ottomans nor Poland have done much with this, really; which I think is down to Hungary being allied to France so nether want to attack them. The PU over Brandenburg broke at some point, although I didn't catch exactly when or why.

And...

I know I've seen AI Byzantium pull off an Austrian alliance before but for the life of me I can't remember when -- suffice to say it was many, many patches ago. Unfortunately for Byzantium, although the Austrian alliance did allow them to escape the first Ottoman attack with only the loss of money and war reps, the Venetians dog-piled once the Austrians were exhausted and broke the alliance. The Ottomans got Constantinople in the next war.

I have had a game once where Austria allied Byzantium really early, beat the ottomans and returned some cores, got a PU over Byzantium, and integrated them.

You are right, they are both rivals to France.
I've reached 1514 so far in this game and Europe starts to look... interesting, to say the least.
England lost Wales and all of Northumbria (safe for Yorkshire) to Scotland and its French cores + Kent to France, but still owns the landlocked province of Armagnac.
Castile got Labourd and Bordeaux.
Austria annexed the eastern half of Bavaria.
Bohemia took over half of Hungary, with some smaller parts going to Poland, Serbia, Bosnia and the Ottomans.
Thomond is one province away from forming Ireland.
Byzantium exists as an OPM in Morea.

custom norse achievement run 1.19 on very hard.

MUGHALS formed; the first time i see it happen in over 3000+ hours of gametime.

No interference from me.

Timurids kept Persia inside, and then formed the Mughals..

I hope they ally Ming at some point and take on Bengal + Bahmanis.

this is why

ming allying mughals would balace it out a little, especially if Ming goes constitutional monarchy late game.

Play a colonial game, AI goes bonkers colonizing the whole world before 1700...

The Japan game also saw MegaPersia, Venetian Emperor and USA dowing Canada... but the crown goes to:
