The bonus from completing Exploration is to be able to claim all colonial provinces ...

As an aside, I believe you'll have a hard time completing First Come first serve, simply due to the fact that you'd colonize to slow without the help from the AI (which you've locked out), You'd need the AI to colonize an estimate of 225-250ish provinces (that is, beyond the native provinces) and conquer those, to be there in time.
Eh, I'm pretty sure I did it while allowing the AI barely to colonize at all. Of course, that was with two centuries of running some 15+ colonies at the same time, whilst gouging settler increase through the roof.

Anyway, this From Humble Origins game (started as pirate OPM in Nassau) is full of ridiculous stuff...

The natural habitat of the Scot is an island:

Nice choice of coat of arms there, Bosnian trade city.

And last but certainly not least... some strange dynasty names in Scottish pool.

Also note that France inherited Naples, and Wurttemberg & Transylvania stronk! (alas the Derps ate the Transylvanians later)

It is indeed possible but you then need to do an almost complete WC to get all the money to run 15 colonies at the same time... Much easier to let the AI do the work. On the other hand, South America is still open so he might still get decent help from them.

"Cockburn" isn't at all unusual as an English/Scottish name. The commander of the British fleet that attacked Baltimore and supported the burning of Washington in the War of 1812 was named Cockburn.

Also, it's usually pronounced "coe-burn", not "cock-burn", because that's British names for you. Like the light version of "Worcestershire" being pronounced "wuss-ta-sha".

It's my first attempt so didn't know whether to block other colonisers or conquer them. I went with block them (in North America) as I wasn't sure about the likelihood of the colonial nations becoming independent, and whether I'd be able to take on say Spain and all their colonial nations together.

South America is untouched by myself and is split between Portuguese Brazil, British Argentina and Peru, French Colombia and Spanish Chile (plus what's left of the natives in Peru).

When do colonial nations become interested in independence? New Spain is still "loyal" despite 30ish% independence desire.

They become increasingly independence minded the higher Administation Efficiency their overlord have ... and through a number of events (primarily Tariff based ones), but really, with a sufficiently large fleet of heavies its quite easy to just blockade their overlord after torching his fleets while your army march in and siege the land, also, have an eye on Europe and try and strike when an oppotunity shows itself (the overlord getting his arse handed by a rival, or have a difficult fight).

Lastly ... if you haven't already move your primary trade node to St Lawrence Bay, as all of America ultimately can feed to there, and flood the note with Trade ships

Wouldn't bet on any independence. Increasing dev in CNs is quite often used by AI to keep them loyal. Yet, it's usually easy to defeat the europeans. You could go into India to earn some real money.

Bonus points for me not seeing any Turks despite being Inca.
Ive seen that message plenty of times. For some reason the turks take exploration ideas and start colonizing asia once they get a port in the indian ocean.

Here is an extremely strange event that occured in my game. For some reason portugal got both aragon AND naples into a personal union while castile still exists.

Doesn't Aragon start with Naples in a PU? It's not that strange in that case, Portugal just had to PU Aragon, Naples comes for free.

If a country has a PU with no heir they wont fall into a PU under another country. This means that portugal either forced a PU onto aragon (Extremely rare for ai to do so) or portugal managed to get both aragon and naples into a pu seperately. Its just a very unusual sight since normally the iberian wedding fires and puts them under castile.

I'm thinking it's the A Political Marriage event except Aragon and Portugal don't border one another.
