Should probably be a disaster rather than an event, though I always thought it took 25% so you'd have to be pretty idiotic to trigger it. Why not post in the suggestions forum?

Yes, that's far too harsh for it to trigger at 10%. It's not that difficult to get over 10% and then drop back under - peace deals, a few loans a couple of the silly choose A: +3 inflation and a poison apple, or choose B: a kick in the balls and rebels everywhere, events firing and you're screwed...

It's not a bug, it's WAD. If you flip to a republic when you have a PU, you retain your unions but can't get any more. For example, if England still has France under a PU when they get the chance to flip to a Republican Dictatorship then losing that would be a bit rough...

Has the whole thing about a republic as a PU minor been changed? I remember a Norway game, back when I was a newb, in which I kept reelecting the King, meaning my Danish king was way better than the Danish king in Denmark.

I came quite close to actually doing that in one of my Japan games before losing interest. Colonise Mahe, no-CB DoW Mogadishu, fight/colonise your way through Ogaden and the central passage, and you're right next to Manga.
