Formed a union with Russia awhile back, integrated them and then assigned my ruler to "Army of Finland", which I inherited from Russia. Then I released Russia as a vassal and boom! He is leading an army that now belongs to Russia. Best part is I can't unassign him.

Good thing they trust me utterly and have a +200 friendly opinion..
I once had France PU Hungary, Poland and Russia. They integrated the first two fast, Russia in 1750. I was Japan, had blocked Russian siberia and was quite happy about it.

How the hell did Croatia get Beograd?

It probably revolted from Hungary, conquered Bosnia and Serbia, got defeated later (lost those provinces) but its cored remained. Someone beat the previous Serbia province owner, and forced them to return core to Croatia.

My guess...

View attachment 108383 <-- This Guy.

I mean, I wouldn't invade a nation ruled by a being who would skewer 20,000 of his 230,000 subjects on spikes all along the border of the Ottomans, would you?

True also I feel like this is a mechanic that needs to exist in CK2. I've had a few rulers who should have been able to stop a war purely from how terrifying he was.

A more likely theory, based on the Hungarian AI. Hungary conquered Serbia and (maybe) Bosnia. South Slavic (SER, BOS, & CRO all share cuture type.) rebels capured Belograd but were defeated. Hungary then loses against Ottomans who force releases Croatia, who has a core on Belograd.

Croatian rebels should not be able to capture Belgrade because Belgrade is in province of Serbia which has Serbian culture.

Im almost 99% certain nationalist rebels can only go to provinces of their primary culture (in this case Croatian) AND in some cases to provinces that have their core (regardless of culture apparently).
