Because they have Hollywood and Silicon Valley (AKA Apple, HP, tons of high tech companies), and tourism since California is very nice and beautiful. But the problem is that their taxes are ridiculous, and a lot of companies as well as people are moving out to states like Texas where taxes are low, life is cheaper in general, and pretty much everything is cheaper. I've been to California, and it's like paradise, until you find out how expensive it is to live there and how greedy those politicians want your money.

.. which probably means taxes that would be considered extremely lenient in Europe or anywhere else. Well, even your far left is still right wing...

How do you form Italy with Aragon? I thought only Italian states could do that

My whole strategy was the following:
1. Vassalize Navarra
2. Sell them 4-5 Provinces in Iberia
3. Move capital to Palermo
4. Enter HRE
5. Annex Navarra
6. Annex North Italian states (Papacy first, so I can move capital to Rome)
7. Now I have more Lombard than Catalonian (not sure about the exact culture in my spanish lands) provinces
8. Culture Shift
9. Form Italy and integrate Naples
10. Become Emperor
11. Profit???

Move capital to Palermo. Then selling some provinces to a vassal Navarra, until you are small enough to enter the HRE. Add Sardinia first, then Sicily, because it's adjacent to it and voila! - benefit from Imperial Integrity

I swear. The Neopolitans are amazing at invading unimportant and stupid areas. No other country I have seen invade Hokkaido while I was playing as Japan.

Really? I once had Spain invade me as a westernized Japan with a 20 stack....that apparently came from Spain, all the way around South America, up the coast of my Californian colony, which is when I noticed them since I saw the warscore go down a little bit so I checked the coast of cali and saw the fleet moving north, dissappearing into the fow, only to appear in Okinawa/Ryukyuku when I noticed a hostile seige pop up.

Yep, Ayutthaya is me. I'm hoping to give Russia prettier borders pretty soon, since Oirat Horde is my vassal now, (diplomatically, even) and they have cores all over that area.

Hordes can be vassalized. Eastern tech can also vassalize Chinese and Indian tech.
