I don't have a screenshot but I took 3 provinces from Mali and realized I cannot core them so I attempted to sell them back but they won't accept their own cores even for free. And the reason they do not accept it is that I cannot core them. This is ridiculous.

It's a bug, try picking them from the list on the sell province screen, sometimes this works.

Just tested it to be sure, and yes, as long as you don't click the province on the map the list works. If you click to province on the map then the list it won't work, you have to close the sell province menu first.

I've heard that Horde pretenders can come from any of the horde dynasties, regardless of religion, so it's possible that Oriat Horde or Mongol Khanate got a Qara Qoyula ruler and married Yamana, who then got a Qara Qoyula heir, and the Oriat Horde or Mongol Khanate got another set of pretenders that changed their dynasty yet again (or just died off, in MK's case)
