ERE needs more of that stuff in the game. Byzantium had lots of random generals who took power but in the game only feudal dynasties take power.

No, since the liege is not part of the council. Strangely enough Paradox made it possible to have an even number of council members, something that one would avoid like the plague in reality.
It says right there in the tooltip that the liege breaks ties, and indeed normally that should happen. It might be a quirk of the GoT mod or some other bug but usually a tie in a council vote is sufficient to do whatever you wanted to do.

This is my first campaign in quite a while, and somewhere along the line battles changed, and they usually have fewer losses.
So I'm asking the guys with more recent experience with the game, was this one unusually brutal?
I was defending, with (IIRC) 2 of my commanders having 30-40% Plains terrain bonus, at least one of them having a defensive bonus, and the enemy had a river crossing penalty.
Still, slaughtering 72% of their army seems very unusual, right?

Since your numbers were only a bit lower than theirs, it isn't all that weird.

Yeah, but even when I attack with a much superior force, I can't crush them like this, not even armies full of light infantry.
They just lose morale, and run.

If you want, pretend their army evaporated after the battle. When you think about it, battles rarely had super high causality rates back then, but if a few battles went wrong, the army melted into the countryside quite often, and were either captured or went back to peasant life.
